Hoppin' Frog Barrel Aged BORIS Royale

Hoppin' Frog Barrel Aged BORIS Royale

Fortunate is he who, in the name of brewing and good beer, shepherds the weak through the valley of macrobrews. For he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the finder of lost taste buds. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my beer. AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS B.O.R.I.S. WHEN I LAY MY FLAVORS UPON YOU.

Stout aged in Whiskey barrels.

3.9 Pours a dark brown with a dark amber hue, dark tan head fully diminishing. The aroma is a mild sweetness, some cinnamon, slight vanilla. The taste is a medium-light bittersweetness. The body is medium, the texture creamy and the finish average. A very good beer.
4.1 Bomber 2011 vintage poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting creamy brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, dried fruit, whiskey and oak. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruit, whiskey, oak and light roastiness with a smooth dry lingering chocolate whiskey finish.
4.1 22 oz bottle 5/15/19 (Courtesy Of TerryR) 38° in Snifter. Pours black with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma of Whiskey, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and roasted malt. Taste of the same with some more whiskey and brown sugar. This full bodied brew is well balanced and kicks butt.
4.3 Minimal tan head left a spotty cover on very dark brown still body. Huge aroma whisky, wood, rum, malt & demerara. Full bodied, do smooth - feels like oil & velvet over the tongue with slight tingle in the back & clean aft. Chocolate malt, brown sugar, raisin, plum, liquorice, whisky, vanilla & roasted tastes with a fruity finish.
4.4 Holy hell. B.O.R.I.S. at its best. So many layers: chocolate, anise, caramel, roast, raisin, black cherry, mocha, plum, vanilla, oak, char, and whisky, all rolling across your palate, swirling and smashing, growing sweet yet veering into whisky warmth and a bitter oaked finish. Silky smooth texture is full but not overly viscous, leading to a massive stout with scary drinkability. Just an amazing stout.

4.1 Fajny, taki portretowy aromat. Chyba beczka to wygładza. Wanilia. Piana fajna drobna, beżowa szybko opada. Smak. Beczka, kawa zbożowa, gęste, wysycenie średnie, fajne odczucie na języku, pełno kawy i czekolady. Najs, najs. Fajna nienachalna, ale bardzo wyraźna beczka. Bardzo dobre piwo, ale trochę drogie.
3.7 Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a glass. Black with medium beige head. Aroma is chocolate, medium body, lower carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is Canadian whiskey, oak, chocolate, booze (more as it warms) and some anise. I remembering liking the bourbon BORIS better.

Full body, creamy-oily texture, smooth, super-soft, silky palate. Clean, homogeneous, perfectly crafted.
4.5 (> malto-boiso-sky, thick-compacte, > maltée, douce-choco puis last-déchirance : petite, mais costaude !)

3.8 [5/14/18] Draught at Mikkeller Bar Viktoriagade in Copenhagen. Black, some tan foam. Roast, chocolate, coffee, a bit of licorice, sweet-bitterish, some alcohol, full-bodied.
3.5 Keg at Cafe Beermoth, Manchester. Dark with small brown head. Notes of tar, red fruits, tobacco. Heavy barrel character with charred wood flavours. Not bad but barrel seems overwhelming.
3.9 12 oz. with no bottling date. Inky black body has a ring and a few other bubbles on top. Aroma is vanilla, soy, booze, prune and a bit of cacao nib. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, oats, salty molasses, peppery whiskey and hints of dark berry. Medium-heavy body has medium-plus fizz that's nearly too much at times, but later seems necessary to keep things moving. Pretty well balanced and the slight boozy note is not overbearing but probably improves with bottle aging. Wish they would date their bottles.
3.8 Oily black colour, creamy tan head. Roasty coffee aroma, malts, some whiskey. Sweet malty taste, low medium roastiness, some dark chocolate and coffee, medium booziness. Medium body and carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Decent.
