Hoppin' Frog Fresh Frog Raw Hop Imperial Pale Ale

Hoppin' Frog Fresh Frog Raw Hop Imperial Pale Ale

Special hoppy flavors and aromas are captured by adding freshly picked, undried hops during the harvest.

These wet hops impart a character unlike other brews, that is quite unique and satisfying for those who love hops – the spice of beer. Smell the hop fields, smell the freshness.

3.8 A reddish copper colour, a head is almost medium and blond. Aroma has caramel malts, peaches, mandarin, some pine forest. Overally, the aroma is quite sweet but also fresh and not too heavy or caramel. Taste has citrusfruits and mandarin, also some harsh fruitness, less caramel malts than in the aroma but the body is still quite strong. At least medium bitterness, not dry, good balance. Medium+ bodied, quite fresh to drink. Quite unique flavours of fresh hops but there are also familiar notes.
3.5 Can split at the sleepy-rapping tasting at Ronny & Alex’s pad, CBC fine tuner, 30/04/15. Very lightly hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is caramel malt, grassy, light orange, spice, citric pith. Taste comprises mellow fruits, caramel malt, pine needle, light tropical fruits, grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a moderate hop presence. Ok.
4.0 08-MAY-2015, bottle @home, from Fish & Beer. Almost clear orange/dark golden with lasting, lacing off-white head. Aroma is bitter hops. Grape fruit and pine. Taste is grape fruit and pine but also quite some malty with bread and caramel and a touch of fennel. "Old fashioned" style IPA with a lot of bitterness and cascade-like hops. It is sweet but never cloying. I like it but... ...no real but. Except the price tag. Way too expensive here.
3.4 Bottle. So what’s the point of this rather un-fresh fresh frog one might be tempted to ask? Well, it was there, wasn’t it. Pours dark golden orange, with a big creamy head. Aroma is massively sweet tropical hops, with pineapple and passion fruit, as well as herbs and floral notes, and malts with toffee and caramel. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet hoppy, with apricots and tropical notes, and roasted malts with bread and toffee, followed by citrusy bitter orange peel lasting throughout the finish. A bit old and rather off, but still shitloads of hops. Next time, it should be enjoyed straight from the hop vine.
3.5 Tap@Ronny and Alex pre cbc tasting #2 - Amber pour small white head. Citrus and tropical aroma and taste, herbal and piney hoppy, nice. ---Sent via Beer Buddy for iPhone
3.6 Bottle at the pre-CBC tasting in Copenhagen 150430. Clear orange beer with a nice offwhite head. Hoppy fruity arom, grassy, citrus, floral, peach, pine apples, vanilla notes. Hoppy citrus flavor, grassy, hay, peach, caramel notes, grassy, vanilla notes. Quite ok.
3.9 Bottle. Hazy dark orange pour with some sediments and dense offwhite head. Aroma has flowers and tropical fruit. Taste has instant bitterness but then becomes more subtle. Nice malt profile behind the hoppyness. Full body and quite high carbonation
4.0 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours golden amber, nose is pine, pineapple, passion fruit, taste is similar, juicy and bitter.
3.8 22 oz bottle from backlog notes 2010 (had many times). Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel malts, some toasted bread, grass, earthy, mild resiny, some citrus hops, fresh hoppy taste, solid beer.
4.2 Delicious Double ipa from Hoppin Frog. Very citrusy with a little malt to take up the rear. Very good!
3.6 Trade from FlandersNed. Probably past its prime? Cloudy orange brown. Strong orange citrus hops. Malt forward, with citrus hops, vegetal touch, but unfortunately some oxidation.
2.9 Bottle from the tasting room. This frog was not so fresh. Decomposing from in a hot summer sun. Big oxidized hop aroma a flavors - wet cardboard. Really sweet and malty with a solid bitterness. Even if this was fresh it would be too caramelly for my liking
4.5 Bomber from a PUB’R capo directly from the brewery. Pours turbid deep copper with 2-finger frothy white head that laces all over the place. Nose is incredibly intense piney and resiny hops, a huge IBU load in this, with caramel malt, black pepper. Tastes dense on the palate, with a huge resiny hopload, caramel malt, and some black pepper and floral notes. This one is a hopheads dream, but may be too intense for others.
3.7 Rated on 4-27-2010 (Bottle) This beer’s appearance is a large fizzy off-white head that mostly diminishes, mostly transparent/slightly hazy orange golden tint body, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is carame malt, grass, pine, and citrus hops. The taste is sweet, lightly bitter, caramel malt, citrus, and pine hops. The palate is lively carbonation and this beer ranges in the light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is not overly hoppy tasting for the style and suits me just fine since I am not a hophead. It is worth trying and a beer I would drink again.
3.7 Draft at the Hoppin Frog tasting room in Akron. 5oz pour. Golden amber color with a thick head. Aroma of orange, mango, pine and floral hops. Also a malty character hits the nose. The taste is bold citrus and pine flavors with a bitter finish. Well balanced with the malts. Slight oily with a medium overall body. Kind of a wet cut grass aroma on the finish. Bitter also.
3.8 Bottle, pours a bit of light amber mostly golden, flavour is nice and hoppy a bit of floral quality overall pretty tasty
3.4 Aroma: Mildly Bready Malts, Mildly Floral, Mildly Veggie Appearance: Hazy Orange/Golden Straw Hue, Some Light, White Ring, Some Lacing Taste: Mild Floral, Mild Orange Rind, Mildly Malty Mouthfeel: Averrage Carbanation, Medium Body, Mildly Drying
3.6 Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Copper pour with a white head. The aroma and flavor have some strong tropical fruit and pine notes as well as some biscuit malt and a low to medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.8 Bomber thanks to JStax! Pours a cloudy dark copper with a small foamy head that fades to a ring. Aroma is sweet, juicy fruit, mangoes, pineapple, oranges, and a touch of pine. Taste is sweet and juicy as expected. Fresh, oily hops mixed with a fairly thick caramel malt backbone. Big bitter finish with spicy hops and tea. Medium to thick body. A tad rough to drink but very good flavors.
4.2 On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma of pine and huge mango. Pairs great with the spicy pasta. Medium light body. Medium high carbonation.
3.8 This one poured a dark golden color with a white head. Aroma was really fresh grapefruity and citrusy hops. Almost orange like. Flavor was again orange like, mild earthy notes and nice raw hop flavors.
4.0 Bottle thanks to Jstax ! Pours a orange copper color with a two finger eggshell foam. The nose is round malt sweetness with a juicy citrus peeking through. On the palate it follows the nose with the malt profile taking a front seat right from the fridge, but as the beer warms a bit there is a big juicy dose of grapefruit, tangerine and a bitter citrus pith. Really starts to shine and open up nicely. Solid brew, thanks for hooking up a bottle Jstax !
4.3 22 ounce bottle directly from the source three days after its release. Poured into a Hoppin Frog 8 oz snifter. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a long time now, and I finally get the chance. Pours a murky copper color with a white head of foam that starts sort of fluffy, but moves to more of a ring around the edge of the glass quickly. The aroma has big grapefruit and orange rind with a gently malt profile hiding in the background. Makes me think of a hop tea. Big, juicy hop bomb. The taste is a sweeter hop bitterness. There’s a nice drying bitterness that kicks in about mid palate and finishes things off. Another delicious beer from one of my all time favorite breweries. This beer rocks!
3.5 650 ml bottle. From bierkompass.de. Hazy amber colour with a tiny white head. The aroma is quite nice with hops, sweetness, malt and some bitterness. The flavour is far from fresh. I’m not quite sure how aged this is but it’s not fresh anymore. Some hoppy bitterness and malty body.
3.4 Hazy orange body white head. Aroma has some mandarin ant caramel. Flavour has some sweet slick caramelIy malt. malty but really fruity. Quite english I may say.
3.5 Bottle, rated from backlog. Pale golden with white head. Nose: grass, pine, citrus and malts. Taste has about the same notes; grass, citrus, bisquit with massive bitterness in the finish.

4.0 65 cl bottle. Originally rated on 20101029. Pours dark copper color with a medium sized head. Aroma of intense hops, grass, some caramel malts and lots of fruits. Flavor of fruits, hops, hay, caramel and some resin. Excellent.
4.2 24th December 2011 Hazy amber beer with a decent off white head. Smooth and slightly soft palate. A little fine carbonation. Light hops, but as the label says - fresh. Pine and mild citrus. Creamy caramel malt underneath with a trace of lactose. Finishes fresh. Really nice light hops. 3.7 21st April 2012 Airy and crispy. A little malt cream. Lovely fresh hops - light but full of flavour. Mild grass and a little pine. Subtle tropical fruits. Juicy peach and a little mango. Finishes smooth and semi dry with minty pine. Ridiculously drinkable. The whole 750 vanished!
3.9 Pours a hazy and copper beer with a white head. The aroma is malt and hops with citrus, grapefruit and melon. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is bitterness. Overall a good beer.
