3.6Bottle 650ml @ Hoppin Frog, Akron, OH
Pours hazy deep golden with a small off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, yeast, dried fruits and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, yeasty, caramel and dried fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
4.0Butelka. Barwa ciemno-miedziana z niską, kremową pianą. Aromat rodzynek, suszonych owoców (morele, śliwki), pieprz, zioła, drożdże. W smaku podobnie, suszone owoce, melon, nuty słodowe w postaci lekkiego karmelu z delikatnie rozgrzewającym szlachetnym alkoholowym finiszem. Piwo pełne i treściwe, dobrze zbalansowane. Wysokie wysycenie, z dodatkiem średniej goryczki. Dobrze ukryty alkohol, rozgrzewa przełyk.Super piwo.
3.5Bottle, 22oz, at the taproom. It’s a hazy dark golden to amber colored beer with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is quite sugary and fruity, with some spiced, peachy hints. Alcohol, raisins, some booze and caramel too. It’s full bodied, warming and nicely carbonated. Semi-sticky. Booze, caramel, dried fruits, peach notes and sugar in the flavor. Some bitterness. Too sweet and boozy, but far from bad anyway. 150616
3.7Bottle from VP CC Vest enjoyed at home
Copper / brown, beige head that falls down quite fast. Smell of marzipan, yeast esters, cherries and raisins, quite fruity, caramel, malts and hints of spices. Heavy sweet, alot of esters, fruity flavors, a little boozy kick, a fantastic malty body which delivers awsome flavors. Spices slides in after a while. Moderate bitter finish. Veyr nice!
3.2Bottled. Pours orangy amber with a small, beige to off-white head. Aroma of caramel, yeast and ripe fruit. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry, with some alcohol and a hint of bitterness. Medium bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carbonation. A nice Ale, but not at all as complex as described. 🌟🌟🌟
3.8Bottle. Pours a deep golden amber with a medium offwhite head. Candy aroma with fruits and yeast. Taste is fairly sweet. Very fruity. Close to full bodied. Avg + co2.
3.2Pours a cloudy copper with a small white head. Aroma of yeast, fruit and light hops. Taste is yeasty with sweet malt, some sugary sweetness, fruit and a decent hoppy finish. Medium body.
3.5Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a hazy deep nougat-hued orange body with a small white head. Nose is banana, candy sugar, caramel, white sugar and hints of clove, cinnamon, wet grass and pepper. Taste is caramel, white sugar, spices, clove, mild banana and hints of toffee, bready malts and alcohol. Full body, high carbonation. A real "big Belgian" with enough esters and candi sugar tones to kill a small Ardenne village. Bold and quite tasty, but not too subtle. A nice brew, nevertheless.
1.3Yeast, honey, citrus and very bitter. Heavy bitterness not good at all. Fills the upper part of the mouth a weak moment. A beer that does not suit me at all. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.3Bottle. Darker copper in color, off-white head. Sweet malts, orange peel and yeasty spicyness in aroma. Some vinous notes as well. Honey sweetness and citrus fruits in taste. Spicy and somewhat boozy aftertaste.
3.7Süßlich herber, insgesamt stimmiger Antrunk. Deutlich fruchtig, angenehme Kräuternoten. Die milde Karbonisierung passt perfekt, harmonisch, vollmundig. Die Kräuternoten steigen, geringe Herbe. Etwas Vanille. Gut! 9/11/12/12/11/12
3.7Never had a chance to rate this, and then suddenly kihoskh had it on its shelves.. fantastic.. cloudy golden, smooth small white head.
spicy aroma, malty, yeasty, yellow fruity notes as a blonde, also a strange sourish note to it, which i am looking forward to find out what the tasting source of, is.. or.. whatever.. flavor is malty, faint yellow fruity notes, sweet caramel, very velvety in the feel, tastes like way less than 10.5% abv. if blind tasted i would’ve guessed blonde or perhaps some barley wine with a belgian twist. Flavor is pretty good, and as the beer appears a lot easier to drink than it’s strength it is pretty dangerous. Normally i prefer belgian beer brewed in belgium, but this one is a pretty neat example of foreign attempts at belgian beer, it has added a twist of elegance and un-wildness, but retained most of the flavors. Good stuff from ohio
3.6Bottle pour at the source. Pours a crystal clear copper with a beige head of foam that dissipates fairly quickly. The aroma has mostly banana esters. Some woody notes come through as well, but that banana sweetness is the key here. Big body and medium carbonation. Decent stuff.
3.822 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but was recently released. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/amber color with a small foamy light khaki head with poor retention, that reduces to a ring of lacing fairly quickly. Slight spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big apricot, plum, pear, apple, melon, light banana, clove, pepper, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast. earthy hops, and pale malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big apricot, plum, pear, apple, melon, light banana, clove, pepper, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, plum, pear, apple, melon, light banana, clove, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt sweetness; with a nice malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Belgian strong pale. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
3.622 oz. bottle from Dutch’s. Nice to see this one make a comeback after so many years of not being brewed. Pours a deep, clear orange with an off-white ring for a head. Aroma of toasted and sweet and bready malts, mixed sugars, straw, nuts, leaves, and mild spice. The flavor is similar, but boozier. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, warming mouthfeel. Good strong Belgian ale. Might do well about 6-12 months from now, and I probably need to drink it a bit colder. But good.
3.3Draft at the tasting room. Pours clean gold with thin, quickly diminishing head. Aroma is Belgian spice, fruit, caramel, candi sugar. Little too sweet finish for me.
3.722oz bottle, from Dutch’s. Mildly hazy orange red color. Thin ring of khaki head, quickly fades to nothing. Leaves no lace. Cool green custom Hoppin Frog bottle cap that I haven’t seen before.. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Pretty smooth and easy to sip. Alcohol is very well hidden. Nice banana, light citrus, light spice. Bit of caramel malt. Pretty well-rounded. Moderate sweet, but not too sweet, and not at all cloying. Good light to moderate bitterness, too. Alcohol works very well, here, and very easy to drink for 10.5%... Extra point for that. Pretty awesome American Belgian strong ale.
3.722oz bomber, courtesy of StFun, pours with a clear copper body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up smooth and muted apples and pears to go along with sweet sugary malts and a bit of candy sugar. The taste begins with the same apple and pear sweet fruit notes as well as brown sugar and prunes. It is smooth and the notes are muted and lead into a mild booziness. Easy drinking stuff.
3.5Pours a deep copper color. No much head. Very chunky (though this is probably 4 years old). Aroma is apples, alcohol and cotton candy. Flavor is a smooth caramel malt with a spicy yeast and some bright fruity notes. The alcohol in the finish punches you in the face. Rich body. A decent strong ale.
3.522 oz. bomber into a tulip glass. Guess this is from 2011?
Pours a hazy burnt amber body with no real foam. Some light edging and minimal lacing. Plenty of sediment on the last pour. Smell is oxidized malts, caramel, and some spices. Taste is also of caramel, oxidation and some Belgian yeast spice. Drinkable enough, but most certainly over the hill. Medium mouth feel with nice carbonation. Feels a bit boozy but doesn’t taste like it. Probably a former shell of itself but if you enjoy oxidation this has a really pleasant level of that which works quite well off of the light spice of the Belgian yeast.
3.7Strong malt and booze aroma. Cloudy dark amber. Sweet and malty and very strong. Lightly carbonated.
3.0It poured a dark color with a small head. The aroma was of honey, pears, apple juice and alcohol. The taste was a little bit sweet and sticky, but very good. The alcohol was present, and not overwhelming.
3.4Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. My house. I bought it. Pours a caramel clear hue with no head. The nose and taste are also full of cooked caramel. Alcohol makes this boozy. Cinnamon spice and others. Not great and with the ABV it could have more going on.
3.9Bottle purchased at Crown Liquors in downtonw Indy. Thought I’d missed out on this retired brew. Hazy amber to copper pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of raspberry, strawberry, caramel and Belgian esters. Caramel and toffee flavor with tart berry essence and honey before a semi-sweet finish. Very good, especially for a style I don’t typically enjoy.
3.8Sample at Eurostash III tasting on 01/12/2012: Thanks a bunch to JaBier for snagging a bottle! The beer pours an amber-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Fruity, malty aroma with spices in the background. Full-bodied with a ripe fruity character and notes of dark malts, spice and yeast. The finish is fruity with a lingering sweet aftertaste. I had reservations about the probably age on this beer but it held up surprisingly well. Pretty good overall.
2.7Fail. Its retired for a reason. Boozy sweet breads and stale apple jacks. Notes of hay and splenda. Wierd and not very good.
2.5Bomber, wet cardboard, too sweet, stale bread. Tastes like a shitty Belgian triple. And now we know why it fails. Lawalerskates.
3.1Bottle pours into a tulip amber with a thin whitish head. Aromas are malt and dark fruit, sweet. Taste is similar with dark fruits and not much else. Alcohol is well hidden but comes through on the back end with some warmth. Overall, not bad, straight forward.
3.4Bottled@The 2nd ES/CS Beer Tasting. (thanks K.K.!). Reddish orange colour with a mediumsized foamy off-white head. Aroma is quite much a Belgian tripel meeting toffee and American hops. Flavour is being similar, in a nice balanced. Hides the ABV really well, making this a pleasant and refreshing strong ABV beer.
