Hoppin' Frog King Gose Home

Hoppin' Frog King Gose Home

Imperial Gose Ale

When the King was crowned, fans in his home town of Akron were excited and proud! But his departure left a sour taste in their mouths making Akron salty about losing their King, and wanting to forget. Now to honor his return and share these sour and salty feelings, we have brewed a beer to express these feelings in flavor, which was a nearly forgotten style itself! This rare Gose style beer is refreshingly sour and salty, and was nearly forgotten - now it’s making a come-back, and so is our King!

2.7 650 ml. bottle sampled @ ZZT 2016-1. Hazy citrus, little white head. Nose is massive lemon candy sour, lemon drop candy with vinegar, heavily salt & extreme coriander. Taste is extreme coriander, overly sour lemon, vinegar, very simple, overly salty, very mineral. Salty, thick bodied, lactic sour. Imperial in the worst fashion, excessive coriander, excessive salt,.... Very simple lactic sourness. Nope this is not it. This one is like a bad joke, another overly salty Gose but this one is overly coriander as well,…. Overly everything.

3.1 Slightly hazy, pale golden amber with a white head. Sweetish-sourish, spicy aroma of coriander, lemon and some rhubarb. Sourish, spicy taste of coriander, lemon and some rhubarb, followed by a short, slightly tart, spicy, minerally finish. Thin to medium body, smooth and slightly astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay, a bit too much of coriander.
4.5 Golden-wheat colored body, fast head. Aroma of lemonade and violets with a touch of cereal grain behind. Flavor is exactly how I wanted it to be: a grainy backbone, a tart lemon/yeast crescendo, and a finish that is dry, sour and a little salty. It was a combo that made my mouth water AFTER I took each sip. If you’re a fan of the style, this is really addictive. And IMO it would be perfectly suitable Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall. ~~~~ 22 oz. bomber, purchased at the brewery.
