Hoppin' Frog Silk Porter

Hoppin' Frog Silk Porter

Dark, robust and silky-smooth, with many flavors of roasted, toasted and caramel malts. Porter is an old-world beer style, so popular that it helped start the industrial revolution. Taste the history.

4.1 Bottle (from boxbeers). Pours dark brown with light brownish head. Aroma is roast, sweetness, vanilla, malt, fruits. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, malt, some roast, chocolate. Overall: great porter, very smooth, almost on bar with Fuller’s.
3.9 1pt 6 fl oz bottle @El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. 19-03-2017. Shared with Ferris. A nice roasty and cocoa porter, some smoked. Pours jet black with nice creamy tan head, Moderate head retention, some good lacing. Roasty, coffee, cocoa and little smoky nose. Medium body, average to soft carbonation, oily texture. Smooth and tasty, cocoa, roasty, caramel, licorice, little coffee. Good.
3.8 Black beer with beige, quickly vanishing head. Aroma has chocolate, milk coffee, sweetness and oats. Taste has malts, milk coffee, chocolate and oats. Medium+ body, very low carbonation. As the name tells us, this porter is soft as silk.
4.0 Reviewed from notes. Thanks Greg for the bottle. This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a mostly black color with a nice two finger white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Some lace, slightly speckled. The aroma had some roasted malt, chocolate and coffee, slight smoke, slight brown sugar. The flavor blended the previously mentioned aromas together - roasty, sweet and subtle smoke. All leads into the aftertaste and bled into the finish. The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch above with a nice soft carbonation about it. ABV felt good. Overall, nicely done porter well worthy of having again.
3.6 Close to black body with a rather small, short-lived, light brown head that almost disappears completely without leaving much lacing on the glass. Strong aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee, and ash in the back. Strong flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, ash and rum, with brown sugar in the back. Hm, ashy chocolate that is both dry and sweet, that’s a new one! Moderate sweet taste with a light to moderate bitter finish. Close to full body, smooth texture, soft carbonation. Enjoyable! [65 cl bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]
3.7 Bottle - Molasses and dark chocolate with some sweet roast. Jet black with a decent white head. Dark roast, toasted cocoa and some molasses. Dark and sweet.
3.7 Weinig aroma. In de smaak lichte caramel en geroosterde granen. Zeer zachte (de benaming silk klopt) en cleane mondgevoel. Misschien iets te zacht. Ik mis het weerhaakje. De afdronk is zeer zacht.
3.8 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Bardzo fajny porter. Słodowość w dobrym stylu, charakterystyczna dla ciemniaków od Hoppin Frog.
3.6 Bottle @ home shared with dad. Dark brown to black color, full sized brown colored head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is malts, slightly metallic, light soft roast. Taste malts, quite dry and earthy, lightly sharp roast in the finish, medium bitterness, malt bitter finish. Decent beer.

3.8 On tap at Fermentoren. Black with tan head. Aroma is soft, roasty, smooth, chocolate and mild coffee. Taste is similar, silky smooth with roasty notes, bitter chocolate, silky coffee and faint fruity notes. Nice.

3.8 Pours a depp dark brownish black color. Aromas of chocolate, a touch of nut, and smoke. Flavor is bittersweet, smoke and woody.
3.6 Soft aroma of light chocolate, raisins and a little caramel. Pours black with a silky and creamy head that lasts long. Medium sweet and a slight hop bitterness. Silky and smooth mouthfeel, a tad too much carbonation for my liking. Overall a solid porter that is pretty easy going.
3.5 Licorice in aroma. Mämmi. Rye. Berries. Semisweet. Medium body. Dark. Carefully roasted, but a bit too watery in the end..

3.3 Tap @ Bishops Arms Hornsgatan. Black with a small creamy beige lacing head. Rosted chocolate aroma. Silky smooth mouthfeel, gentle carbonated. Rosted almost smokey notes in taste, chocolate biscuits, cocoa, fresh figs. No real deep flavors, still pleasant.
3.7 Bottle from Bierkompass! Pours deep black with a high, creamy off-white head. Aroma has strong coffee notes, paired with sweet chocolate and roasted malts. 3.7 Kurze Review von Untappd: Nice’n’smooth Porter. Like it should been done. Very nice,
3.7 27.09.2015, @beertemple, musluk.
