Hoppin' Frog Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale

Hoppin' Frog Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale

The release of our Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale is around mid June. Born from European tradition, our Shandy is a refreshing combination of lemon and light malt flavors. Unlike traditional shandys, Turbo Shandy, revs it up a couple of notches with a high test, full flavored approach as only Hoppin’ Frog can do.

3.7 4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear straw yellow with off-white head. Aromas of light lemon. Tastes of lemon citrus, lemon candy. Medium-light body with a dry finish.
1.8 Woo boy is this a sweet and syrupy mess. I want this style to be light and refreshing.
2.1 Bright yellow pour from 22oz bottle at Lakehouse. Very lemony and sweet. About what I expected. It's fine for the style just not one I'm a fan of
3.2 Bottle from the dregs run. Pours hazy straw yellow with a thin white head. Aromas of lemon and lime. Taste is sweet. Lime marmalade. Bit thin.
3.1 Hazy straw color; Medium body; Aroma of wheat/malt, yeast, & rich citrus zest; Flavor of semi sweet malt, yeast, rich citrus (notably lemon & lime), and light spice; Soda like but that was expected for the style; Quite refreshing overall.
3.5 draft - pours yellow white head - nose/taste of lemon bomb, white sugar, juicy lemon - lighter med body
3.0 Draft - Tons of tart and sweet lemon. Clear gold with a decent white head. Sweet and lemony pop like.
3.1 Bottle @ Derek’s. Thanks for sharing! Hazy gold pour with a small head. Loads of orange peel on the nose. Some cake batter. Citrus soda. Similar flavor. Light citrus. Sweet grain. Spritzy body. Fairly inconsequential. Nice enough.
4.1 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, summer 2015 bottling. Pours lightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a ring of lace that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big lemonade, lemon peel, lime, grapefruit, wheat, cracker, light honey, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of lemon/citrus, bready malt, and light earthy hop/yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemonade, lemon peel, lime, grapefruit, wheat, cracker, light honey, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness, yeast spiciness, and citrus tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemonade, lemon peel, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness and balance of lemon/citrus, bready malt, and light earthy hop/yeast flavors; with great malt/spice/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent shandy style! All around great robustness and balance of lemon/citrus, bready malt, and light earthy hop/yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
3.6 Bottle. Light wheat beer flavor, Lemon, and it is sweet. Cloudy yellow, and sweet lemon finish. Very easy drinking, and good. It would be a good choice on a warm day.
3.1 Bottle shared by John, thanks! Pours a hazy deep yellowish gold with a white head that dissipates quickly and nearly completely. Aroma has a lots of lemon, both sweet and tart, with a strong sweet wheat backbone. Flavor has a combination of sweet wheat and sweet lemon with a slight bitterness underlying.
3.4 Well it is a shandy. Not my fav style but overall it is light, refreshing, both sweet and slight tartness. Light color with a small head at first. Lemon drops and lime. Active carb.
3.6 On tap at the brewpub. Hazy golden with little head. Aroma is light lemon, light body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is lemon, tart, and easy to drink.
2.6 Draught @ Hoppin Frog, Akron, OH Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of citrus and lemonade. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long lemonade and citrus finish. Body is light to medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
2.9 Pour out of 22 oz bottle, hazy golden pour with thin quickly fading white head, aroma brought sugar, vanilla, citrus, some lemon notes with some slight bread. Taste was a mix of lemon, sugar, slight biscuit, cracker into a bit of grain, touch of yeast, finishing fairly sweet. Not bad for what it is, glad I was able to split the bomber.
2.9 Bottle. Pours yellow with small frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong lemon zest and citrus. Thin mouth, tastes like boozy lemonade and ginger, decent.
3.0 sample at GLBN Global Warming Tsting, lemony sugar candy and beer mixed together. decent over ice i suppose. Not my thing but way better than the saranac one
3.2 Bottle. The aroma is all citrus. The pour is super light. The taste is super citrus, and nice. Light and refreshing. Not sure why the low rating. Solid.
3.1 A: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, No Head, No Lacing S: Sugary Lemons, Cane Sugar T: Lemon flavored Luedens Cough Drops M: No Carbonation, Light Bodied, SWEET Overall, the whole shandy thing gets a bad rap but this one is a sugar full cough drop. On a side note, my throat feels much better after drinking it...huh.
3.5 Straight lemon bomb. Almost a kicked up lemonade. That being said it was very enjoyable. So damn refreshing on a hot day. Understand this is not a serious classic beer but for what it is yummy
3.2 Bottle from Cleveland Beer Fest, interesting fruity beer, overall I thought it was decent, light, good.
3.9 Clear, straw yellow. Small white head. Citrus, lemon, yeast. Sweet. Lively and superbly refreshing and thirst quenching. Perfect lighter side of medium body. By far my favorite shandy Ive tried. NOTHING better after some time in the summer sun. 22oz goes down in minutes...
4.6 ahhh yeah, ah yeah. This is the perfect summer beer. Lemon, and a little orange aroma. Amazing sweet lemon/citrus taste. So smooth and light and refreshing. Like Leine’s Summer Shandy super charged.
4.0 This is refreshing, the only shandy I had tried before it was Leinie’s. This tastes better, and I just wish I had bought more on my recent trip to Ohio.
3.0 REVIEW Style: Fruit beer, shandy ABV: 7% Purchased at: Woodman’s Market; Madison, WI. Pour: Blonde pour with a medium white head. Aroma: Lemon fruit scent, maybe some yeast notes as well. Flavor: The sweet lemonade is there. I described it as very close to drinking a Squirt soda. Ratebeer.com rating: 39/100 Beeradvocate.com rating: 79/100 Overall: C+ My recommendation: A hot day, this works well. The only drawback for me, not enough beer flavor and too sweet. A good 22 oz bottle to share with somebody.
3.6 Bottle shared by aobecksy and tibeerious at RBWG. Clear light yellow with a white head. Spicy hop aroma. The flavor is sweet and lemony with no bitterness. Citrusy tartness to finish. Totally hides the alcohol.
2.8 Bottle shared by aobecksy and tiberious at RBWG. Thanks ’rents! As others have noted below, this was more lemonade than beer. Which was fine at the time, but I did expect a little more from this brewery. Quite sweet, countrytime lemonade with hardly any lager/biscuit malt balance that it needs. Like Leighton said, this is a tough style to pull off.
3.0 Definite lemonade. Light on the beer flavor. Slight creosote on the nose, but refreshing.
3.2 Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours clear yellow with a small, white foam head. Sugary lemon nose. Big sweet flavor, light breads malts, sugary lemon candies. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, lightly sticky finish, lingering sweet lemon. Meh, tough style to pull off.
2.6 22oz bottle in a tumbler. Pours golden with a small head. Aroma of lemonade, pale malts, light hops, and hints of alcohol. Flavor the same, with a lot of lemonade. Average to light texture. A beer that is not for me.
