2.4 Bottle share at CBC Clerkenwell, thanks to Cloin, as ’Hoppin’ Frog Wild Frog Wheat Ale’. Undated, but possibly a touch old. Opaque orange, lightly sparkling, small foamy white head, no lacing. Aroma is plastecine, a touch sour, wheaty, plastic. Body is light, very foamy. Taste is light, papery, biscuity. Very little flavour at all. Pretty poor.
2.9 22oz bomber shared at Padraig’s 2.5k Untap tasting at CBC CW, London. Thanks to Cloin. It pours a cloudy pale golden color with a medium white bubbly head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is deeply sweet and fruit with loads of apricots and peach. Taste is medium sweet and sugary with loads of pear peach and apricots. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, sickly sweet
3.3 Bottle split at the pre xmas tasting #Juan, 09/12/15. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off White covering that dissipates to edgeing. Nose is toffee, orange, light spice, bread. Taste comprises bitter orange, light nana, bready, caramel, light yeast, spice. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough hefe.
3.1 Hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma is banana, pineapple and grass. Taste is wheat, mango and citrus.
3.0 Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is banana and clove. Spicy wheaty flavor. Some citrus.
3.4 Bomber. Wheat aroma with notes of grass, banana, clove, earthy yeast and citrus. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin white head with minimal retention and lacing. Starts with wheat and banana flavors with grassy notes as well as some citrus. Finishes smooth with clove and earthy yeast present however near the very end there is a strong bubblegum presence that coats the palate some what unpleasantly. Pretty nice wheat but did not enjoy the bubblegum.
3.9 22 ounce bottle into weizen glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, banana, pear, apple, bubblegum, clove, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, banana, pear, apple, bubblegum, clove, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate yeast spiciness and slight bready tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, banana, pear, apple, bubblegum, clove, wheat, bread, light honey, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy, bready, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice hefeweizen style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.2 Bottle at home, thx Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, small unstable white head. NOSE: wheat, little watery, malts, some alcohol. TASTE: alcohol, sticky, sweet.
2.9 Bottle. Banana, light clove and wheat malt aroma. Yellow-brown with small head. Sweet banana, clove, cardboard, and wheat malt flavor. Medium body. Need to try this again - this wasn’t very fresh.
2.9 Bottle: Clear, dark amber-gold with a thick, off-white head. Bready, caramel, banana scent. Taste is sweet, wheat, banana-bread. Clove, very malty....toffee... Almost a nutty, buttered quality to it. Different, tasty, though a bit on the sweet side.
3.4 Nice wheat with a little extra umph in the abv department. Citrusy with a light finish.
3.5 New state, Ohio (25/51): Appearance: Golden orange, clear. Huge amounts of white head. Aroma: Wheat, banana. Taste: Wheat, fruits, banana, spices. Bought: Erzbierschof, 650 ml, CHF 11.90 Info: 9/6-2014
2.8 Translucent yellow-orange with a nice large head. Citrusy and robust scent of yeast. Lots of carbonation, light and refreshing, but lacking on flavour. Yeast and perhaps a bit of banana bubblegum present, but not much else. Slighter bitter finish. Tastes more akin to a lager. Their porters are much better.
3.4 From Salling, Dk. Bottled, 150214. Hazy golden with white head. Aroma of wheat. Flavor with yeast and spices.
3.8 Hazy blond color, with poor head retention / aroma is estery (banana bread), spicy and wheat / flavor is the same wheat and estery / Medium body, sweet and creamy, good carbonation, sweet banana bread finish / really good
2.7 Botella de 65 cl en el lupulo. 6 vol. 14-12-13 cuerpo ligero con sabor a cereales y trigo suave y ligero. Cambia bastante su sabor y color al echarle los posos finales de la botella, pasando de amarillo a miel turbio ganando más sabor a cereal y densidad. Poco Amargor. Se bebe bien. Normal
4.2 A very nice hefeweizen. Tons of clove and banana is this beer. Slick mouthfeel.
Jasne w porownaniu do bawarskich pszenicznych, bardziej moim zdaniem zblizone do belgijskich wit.
3.7 A: Hazy Orangish/Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Wheat, Banana, Oranges T: Oranges, Banana, Wheat M: Decent Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Lightly Sweet Overall, a nice easy drinkign german hefeweizen but nothing that will blow you away.
3.4 Bottle at De Molen, November 2013 Second Tuesday Tasting. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a round white head. The aroma is super rich fruit malt wheaty yeast. The flavour is acidic sweet a little alcoholic tasting. Medium bodied, weak oily texture, flat carbonation. Reminded me of Lucozade without the bubbles.
3.3 Bottle shared at the De Molen monthly tasting. Pours clear dark golden with a small off white head. Aroma of caramel, yeast, spice and fruit. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 Bottle from the tasting room in Akron. Thanks dad! Poured into traditional hefeweizen glass. Golden color with a clear body, small white head. No lacing. Aroma of fruits and wheat fields. Taste is fruity (some citrus and pear) with a cereal and hay ending. Crisp finish. Refreshing. Medium carbonation. Slightly dry on the finish.
2.9 Yeah I do not say much more than that this is a wheat beer. Great flavor and very fragrance. Decent long finish. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.0 Golden coloured and light hazy. Has a white head, diminishing. Sweet, acidic, light spicy aroma. Flavor starts sweet plus some acid too. LIght coriander. Creamy texture.
3.8 Cloudy, straw yellow with a thick white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of banana and some mild clove. Light flavor of wheat and slight banana with clove. Lively, but easy to drink nice summer beer. Wife: 4.3
3.5 Bottle. Frothy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy and yeasty aroma. Moderate bitter nice flavor. Strong fruity esters. Average moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate. Nice hefe.
2.7 Bottle from Ridgewood Wine. Pours cloudy and golden with almost no head which is a bit of a concern. Has some malty and banana notes on the nose. has a couple of spice notes on the tongue. Finishes clean. not feeling this one.
2.9 Bomber bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours tiny hazy golden with a frothy and fizzy goldenish white head that quickly dissipates while leaving almost no trace at all on the glass. Smell is typical heft with wheat crackers, lemon juice, cloves, banana bread, coriander, oatmeal cookies, lemon zest and dusty dry cereal. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly sour and tiny bitter with wheat crackers, banana bread, lemon juice, lemon zest, hay, cilantro, cloves, lemon balm, cereal, lemon zest and parsley. Mouthfeel is soft, sparkling, tiny tart, tiny cloying and light to medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and slightly sour with wheat crackers, lemon juice, cookie dough, banana bread, lemon zest and hints of green herbs and hay. Starts good but each sip after the first turns more cloying and after a while it’s enough. Hoppin’ Frog is a great brewery but this is a style I don’t think they quite master yet...
4.0 The flavor is is about what I expected. I get some nice banana and clove notes, as well as some wheat. In addition to all of that, I get some orange notes and a little bit of toasted malt. Nice to see a hefeweizen with a little more complexity than the standard offerings.
3.4 Bottle. Unclear yellow towards orange with a small quickly disappearing white head. Dominated by estery notes of rasp/strawberry and banana, light grain, hay, dry grass as well. Medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation. Medium sweet with hardly any bitterness. Long estery finish.
