HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend

Please rate under proper vintage! This is just a historic entry for pre vintage split (read below)!

This general entry is kept only for historical reasons, since it would be impossible to manually separate the ratings. New ratings should go to the vintage versions.

In 2021 it was decided to create separate entry for each vintage, because it is easier for rb users, the vintages are easy to identify and the members of HORAL change over time (so it is not exactly the same from year to year).

Historically ratebeer has kept only one entry for every vintage. The idea was that every Mega Blend was the same product even if the vintage was different. Think about 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze for example: different batches contain lambic from different producers in different proportions, but they are not separate products.

Description:
HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend is a blend of young and old Lambic from HORAL members. The beer was first specially produced for the occasion of the 7th edition of the Tour de Geuze, and has been produced in every two year ever since.

4.6 Creamy wonderful palate, classic aroma of wild yeast and citrus. Taste is dry and fresh. Stays fresh even when tempered
4.5 (orange-abricot, nez écurie, ~berga, bois, brett, bouche ~acide, citronnée, fruit blanc-jaune, mandarine)
3.9 Bottle shared by Simoncino at LuppoloStation in Rome-Italy. Golden/amber hazy color, little foam a bit gassy with short retention. Nose: very fruity, jam of yellow fruit, so intensive. Mouth: clean sourness, not very intensive although pretty fruity with a dry finish. Lovely sipper.
3.6 PINT tasting. Poors light opaque, small foam ring. Aroma is weak, but present. Taste is sour, my mouth has to get used to it. Gooooood. (Arnhem 201803)
4.1 (bottle) Aroma: barnyardy bretts, apple skin. Appearance:yellow color, small head, Taste: quite sour, flavour of peaches, lemon, leather, apple skin and bretts Palate: medium body, low carbonation. Overall: Nice sour monster with shiloads of leathery brett notes, I dig it !
3.8 Hazy golden child, white head. Aroma of sour fruits, citrus, grass, oak. Sour lightly sweet and bitter taste. Medium body and average carbonation.
4.5 Bottle at Cerveteca Lisboa. Deep golden pour with a thick white head. The nose is amazing. Bright pineapple and a bit of intense fruit and white pepper. Has a bit of bright lemon and pear with a lovely funkiness and a touch of zestiness. Fruity and funky. Has a lot of bright fruit and pepper. A little hint of sweetness left through the middle but appropriately dry. Damn - this is awesome.
3.4 Tegoroczny kupaż to przede wszystkim nuty skórzane i lekko stajenne (spocony koń) i cała masa białych owoców z nutą cytrynową. Jest bardzo cierpko, ale w posmaku pojawia się nuta kojarząca się z aspiryną. Skojarzenie mi się nie podoba, ale piwo i tak jest ciekawe.
3.7 Sample from bottle at The Local Pub, Athens. (A group of people had a private tasting with beers they had brought themselves. The bartender made it known to the group that I was interested in beer and they gave me a sample. So a big thanks to MikeBibere, AntonFred(?) and all the others! Cheers!) Orange color, small white head. Slight tart aromas of gooseberries, cherries, dough and slight citrus. Slight tart taste with citrus, earth and gooseberries. I like it, and I usually don't enjoy Gueuze all that much.
5.0 Bottle at Koelschip Yard. The movement through sweet, sour, fruit, tart is really impressive. Lovely texture on the palate too.
4.5 September 23, 2017. Bottle pour at Zwanze day at Birreria Volo. Golden yellow with finely bubbled white head. Quite tart white grape aroma, some citrus and light funk, quite carbonated. Nice dry tart lambic.
4.0 Pours creamy orange, some white foam on top. Nice autumny nose, lightly acidic, fruity, hinting a perfectly balanced tart lambic. Nice fruity flavour, perfect balance of tartness, light and drinks well. Shrimp cocktail is actually a good pairing, cuts through mayonnaise and blends well with salad.
3.8 Bottle from online shop. Amber color, white head. Sour taste with citrus, wheat, tart, sour apple, white currant and grass. Sour finish with citrus, wheat, tart, sour apple, white currant and grass. Very nice gueuze.
3.3 Bottle. Pours clear yellow. Nose is clear grapes, sour apple, lemon. Palate is oaky bitter grapes, lemon, oaky tannin finish. Overcarbonated. Not bad, but the carbonation is a bit distracting.
2.7 Golden with large white head. Aroma is fine grapes, lots of pips. Taste is harsh bitter and sour mealy grape pips. Not so balanced. Too harsh...
3.9 Bottle shared at Matt’s. Light in body with funk and barnyard and lemon and deep orange pour.
4.1 Almost clear light amber with lasting off white head. Fantasticly complex and balanced aroma of cornflakes, bread, citrus and vinegar etc. Not overly acidic. The taste is low in sweetness and bitterness and has a distinct but balanced acidity. Finish and aftertaste follows the same flavors and is balanced all the way through. Great beer.
3.9 Bottle 0,75. Thanks to Slacker. Pours hazy orange with small white head. Lots of fruits, some citrus, mild sourness, very nice. Light body and average to high carbonation.
4.2 A hint of yeasty funk on the nose, beautiful dark orange with a good bit of head for the style, white wine coloring over the gueuze flavorings, not overwhelmingly sour, perfect carbo for refreshment
3.9 Rich orange colour with lots of quick-fading head. Pleasant carbonation throughout the sip. Sour citrus aroma matches it’s tart taste with a lasting finish. A great geuze no doubt, but probably reaching a plateau of how good a geuze can even get.
3.9 750 ml bottle shared by johnnnniee. Mild notes of barnyard, dried hey, yeasty funk. Taste is mild Brett notes, stable funk, mild lactic acid, but subtle. Light body, medium to high carbonation. Pretty nice, I get that it is a massive blend but it is complex and wicked funky. Thanks John.
4.0 Poured from bottle thanks Johnnnnie nice hazy orange few floaties with a fluffy white head. Aromas of wood yeast fruit and hay. Taste is sweet sour fruit.
3.7 Bottle Aroma-blue cheese Appearance-golden, cloudy, white foam, Taste-medium sweetness, medium sourness, lightly bitter, Palate-medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish, Overall-very good
4.2 Aroma: Fruits, sour, farmyard. Appearance: Pale color, haze with small white head. Taste: Fruits, sour, a little pleasant sour. Palate: Light body, high carbonation, smooth.
3.6 Very good, but not necesarilly better than the sum of its parts. Naturally very complex, funky and some bretty sourness going on.
4.0 750ml bottle. (2009 vintage) Pours an unclear amber-orange with lots of sediment and a large, frothy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sour aroma of lemon, orange, apricot, brett, horse blanket and oak. Sweet fruity flavour of orange, grapefruit, lemon, apricot, leather, brett, vinegar and oak with a crisp, sour, acidic, bone dry, champagne like finish. Medium body with an oily texture and lively carbonation. Lots of complexity, an excellent gueuze. This beer aged nicely.
3.9 Bottle. Pours hazy golden with medium white firm head. Aroma: dried cow shit in the barn- nice, raw apple peals, a bit sulphur. Taste: medium plus sour, hay, a bit acidity, raw apples. Medium body. Sour smooth finish. Hurts a stomache a bit. Nice one.
1.1 Bier is zo zuur dat je bijna denkt dat het al jaren over de datum is. Enige pluspunt is de fraaie fles.
