Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale

Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale

Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process.
A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions.

3.6 12 oz. bottled 03/20/2015. Clear brown with a small ring of creamy bubbles. Nose is a mix of molasses, toasted dark bread, apple and smoldering dried hay. Tastes of sorghum molasses, resiny green herb toasted sesame seed and new cotton shirt. Finish shows a nice dryness with some light ash and charred dry field grass. Light-medium body is a bit to the sweet side, but that’s per style, and a light astringency helps sweep the malt away. I normally like low carbonation, but this one needs just a bit more. Still, this is a pretty sessionable and interesting brown.
2.7 On tap at Hopjacks. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is spruce and floral. Thin mouth, light bready malt and toast, decent.
2.7 Bottle->SA. Dark brown with minimal lite tan head. A: caramel malt, cereal, hints of cocoa and hops. T: metallic chcoclate malt, sweet with some nuts and spice, mild hops. Fairly unpleasant bittersweet aftertaste.
3.1 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- Has a malt and barley smell Appearance - Pours a dark brown with a large white head Taste- A bitter tasting beer that has a slight coffee taste. Palate- A medium bodied, moderately carbonated beer. Overall- A fair beer that I would drink again.
3.2 Decent and different. Malty and caramel notes. Medium brown color. Medium weight with good lacing. Burnt caramel flavors. Not sure what the hemp adds. Maybe a little earthiness.
3.5 This is a good, beer but could be great if there was a more of a standout flavor good malt notes but needs something more.
3.1 Bottle. Clear copper brown. Nutty caramel sweet taste but, thin and bland overall. Boring.
2.6 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear amber brown color, beige head cover, heavy streamers of lace. Taste is semi-sweet caramel malt that moves quickly through the palate to a relatively short, mildly hopped finish. A somewhat heavy brew, with nothing exactly wrong, but nothing exactly right either. Not a keeper for me
3.7 Pours dark clear brown. Nice tan head. Aroma is roasty chocolate. Taste is chocolate caramel malty sweet and roasty. Coffee and slight chocolate bitter finish. Good carbonation to bite the palate.
3.4 Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 4/1/15 Aroma: The aroma of this one is a little hoppy, with some chocolate and caramel notes. Appearance: Pours a brown color with a very large, foamy, light brown head Flavor: The flavor is along the same lines, pretty balanced, lightly sweet, medium bitter. Palate: The body is medium, but the fizzy carbonation makes this fairly difficult to drink. Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid, but the mouthfeel is definitely a problem. The carbonation is so strong, it is the most memorable thing about this beer. Too bad, cause there is some good stuff going on here.
3.0 Bottle. Deep amber to brown pour. Small soapy white head. Aroma is malty, nutty, and slightly herbal. Medium palate, somewhat sweet to the taste.
2.5 Appearance: pours with a medium tan head that settles into a moderate density, the beer is a very nice semi transparent brown color with some amber hues to it, Aroma: maple syrup, kind of faint, very slight hop tang Taste: slightly sweet, has a very faint hop bitterness on the finish, also finishes with some toasted malt Palate: average carbonation, light mouthfeel, faint bitter aftertaste Overall: not a bad beer, would be easily sessionable, nothing stands out that makes it great though, a bit bland
3.2 Syrupy and boozy taste. Sweet. Brown sugar and malts. Draft at bills in Orange beach. Meh
3.9 On tap at Duke’s Waikiki 191214. Drank this while watching the sun set over Waikiki Beach. Copper red to light brown with a bit if maltiness going on.
2.9 12 O bottle pour. Pours a reddish brown color with no lace or head. Nutty, malty aroma. Flavor shadows the aroma. This beer for me was just alright. Nothing special stood out. Semi empty finish to it. I wouldn’t call this bad, but maybe expected a bit more. Interesting style though. A little different.
3.1 Pours a clear mahogany with a thick, though not persistent, light tan head. Dark malt aroma has woody, caramel, and subtle hoppy notes. Flavor is not strong, but pleases with malty, nutty, and woody tones plus a snip of caramel. Texture seems a bit thin and lacks fizz. Has this gone downhill since winning that there now Gold Medal? Nevertheless, give it a fair shake.
2.9 Rated on 8-07-2014 at Don Hall’s Factory (Fort Wayne, IN) This bottled beer has a transparent brown body, no visible carbonation observed and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malty, nutty and sweet. The flavor mimics the aroma. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light bodied. This beer is quaffable and does not have a lot of character to it. It is what it is.
2.8 Bottle from Kings supermarket orlando. Pours brown with reddish hue. Nit aroma. Toffee sweet with nutty aftertaste. Very light and a lot of carbonation.
3.2 Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone pint glass From: Albertson’s in Alpine, Calif. Price: $1.67 ($9.99 for a mix 6-pack) Purchased: Oct. 11, 2014 Consumed: Oct. 11, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a brownish, dark caramel, mahogany color with 1-to-2 fingers of tan head. Good stream of bubbles coming up from the bottom throughout the glass. Head settled nicely after originally appearing to dissipate. Minimal lacing along the sides of the glass. Minimal retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.00) Smelled light chocolate, roasty malts, toffee, caramel, light menthol, chocolate milk and faint Citra hops. Was tough at times to get anything on the nose. (Smell - 3.50) Tasted similar to the nose. Got roasty malts, roasted nuts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, chocolate milk and slight cocoa nibs. (Taste - 3.75) Medium body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 3.63) Just an OK brown ale. Nothing spectacular. (Overall - 3.63) 3.63 82 B

3.3 Appearance: opaque dark brown color with small brownish colored head slight lacing on glass Aroma: caramel Taste: caramel key notes, earthy Palette: slightly bitter at end, medium body, highly carbonated tinges tongue at end Overall: this is a brown ale with a punch of flavor ! It has a lot of timing on the tongue- it is very different than any brown ale I have tried
3.4 "nice and malty up front, with peet and caramel malt, good body, although the aroma is lacking. the beer makes up for it with it’s solid malt backbone and hoppy finish. solid, with a small alcohol kick"
3.3 rich, malty full of herbal quality goodness, its very well carbonated but not very fizzy.goes down smooth with a rich creamy head.
3.0 Draft at church publick. Pours a deep brown color with a malty. Slightly hoppy balance. Easy drinking with a nutty aftertaste
3.3 12oz bottle picked up at BevMo Clear cola with a medium sized beige head, good lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, nutty and toffee. Taste is toasted malts, nutty with a mild bitterness, sweet Decent
2.8 eh, it's ok I guess. Not very memorable, but I guess with a brown that's not the point.
3.2 Poured from bottle. Dark brown, with a tight tan head, and moderate lacing. Aroma is roasty, bready malt. Flavor is mostly roasty malt, with a touch of citrusy hops. Finish is slightly bitter, with a mild vegetal note.
3.2 32 oz growler pours a light brown color with a nice white head. Aromas of light citrus, light roasted malt, chocolate. Nicely balanced
3.1 Drinkable, but not amazing - though by this point my judgement may have been impaired.
