1.3Appearance is a short lived fizzy head and a deep gold color. Aroma is corn, a little malt. Flavor’s sweet corn beer tempered by a little carbonation. Heavy body. Finish is like flavor with lots of booze. I imagine there’s a set of people that chug this to get where they’re going, while i’m chugging it get it over with.
1.024-ounce can in a glass. What to say... Its American malt liquor, high in alcohol, but overall very nasty. I couldn’t believe I found something worse than Bud Lite Platinum, but here it is. Typical drink of the homeless.
0.5Made a stop at a C-store on a late night bike ride. 3 high gravity malt liquor tall boys for 3 bucks?!? Sounds like a great deal! I like Hurricane mixed rum drinks, what could go wrong? In a word… everyfrickinthing! Let’s start with the fact that the lady behind the counter says "You don’t want anyone seeing you drink that. Here’s a paper bag." Sounds like the start of an evening filled with poor life choices. The aroma is a sweet stench of weak-ass Kool-aid and stale straw. I really couldn’t get a good visual on the mystery liquid in the bag as the only pour was straight into my beer hole. The first flavor note that blossommed on my tongue was ’shudder’. Not really a flavor as much as a recoil from the assault on my tastebuds. Not a good first impression. The finish is literally that of watered down fruit punch Kool-Aid and the second hand beer-ish essence you get when making out with a drunk girl at a party. In a rush to get back to the ride, I slugged back two more swallows so it wouldn’t splash when I hit a bump. The funk that lingered in my mouth made me start thinking about what I could do to make it go away. Eat a road kill carcass, lick a sweaty truck driver taint, suck on a urinal cake. I contemplated all of these things. Over the next 12 miles, I was able to gag down about half a can and ended up with a buzz similar to sniffing a sharpie. I couldn’t even pour it down a drain for fear of poisoning the water supply for the whole city.
2.1This can comes in many drastically different designs and the alcohol % is different, but other than that it’s the same.
Bought at a convenience store, it pours an apple juice color with a beady head with some large bubbles and some lacing. Smells faintly of rotten fruit and grass and maybe a dash of corn. Taste is nothing to write home about but wasn’t unbearable. Malty, grassy with alcohol. Goes down smooth with a watery bitter finish.
Not bad, but not great. A cheap beer more than likely fortified with alcohol. Not meant to refresh, but to relax. good if you’re strapped for cash and want a good time!
2.025 oz. can. Pours golden with white head. Aroma of alcohol, corn and grain. Taste was watered down and metallic.
1.540oz bottle. Ice cold. Dark pee color. (Someone else already loaned it..) White head. Even at this cold temp, alcohol is pretty apparent. Not overly sweet. Grain, rice, corn, sugar, alcohol. Vaguely unpleasant, particularly the finish. There are other malt liquors id go to before this one.
2.2Drank a 24 ounce can of this one recently. Smell was sort of a damp hay, bread and sweetness. Some alcohol and funk to the smell as well. Taste follows the smell: more sweetness than the smell but there’s the alcohol taste, some mild funk/and or skunk. Hay, grass, corn, bread. Smooth for the high percentage. Interesting aftertaste that goes away. Refreshing and easy to drink. I liked it. This one is a recurring purchase for me.
7/23/15: When you drink this from a 40, there is literally like no taste or smell until you’re in the swill. Then it tastes pretty bad/strong. But that was surprising.
2.5Pours an apple juice color. It’s hard to describe the color. Apple juice, that’s it. It has about a one finger head, no real lacing. This is coming from a 25 oz can into a 16 oz glass. First pour was a dud. Second pour helps things out as far as aroma and taste goes. Anyhow, the head doesn’t last. It is what it is. Nothing impressive.
Aroma is alcohol. I smell breadinesss. There maybe some bubble gum in there.
Taste is sweet that’s the biggest thing. I certainly taste the alcohol. It’s smooth. It’s full bodied. I’m not picking up anything telling as far as unique flavor characteristics. It’s metallic, but I guess that’s from the can. Of course the high alcohol content of this thing voids anything you might pick up.
Mouthfeel is smooth. It’s very smooth. For the amount of alcohol in this thing, it’s surprisingly smooth and sweet. It’s full bodied. It’s bold. It’s strong. Its very dry.
Overall, it’s not bad, It’s hard to rate really. The alcohol is kicking in, so I’m closing now.
2.049 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a clear yellow with a white head of foam. Not a bad looking beer. The aroma is corny, sweaty, and a little greasy. The taste is not much better. Mostly weird sweetness in there. Medium carbonation and big body.
2.1This would be fine to get drunk on in any situation. The sort of thing you might have at a picknick or an outdoor ball. It’s golden w/ a small head. It’s a little bit syrupy w/ some raw grain alcohol in there but nothing too bad. You also get some of that wierd grape jelly kind of character common in higher gravity malts. Mouthfeel is oddly creamy and satisfying after a fashion, making for a boozy but drinkable beer. This is a work of art compared to many spirit barrel aged beers and that is just a sad fact we will all have to get used to.
2.725 oz can, inbev is giving us an extra ounce over competitors. Clear gold in color. Really a non-offensive high gravity alt liquor so credit them for that, this still sucks balls though. re-review 710ml can. This is an unoffensive HG, dry for its style too, if you wanna get fucked up and not swill your way though a 211 or colt hg this is what you grab.
3.1Decent amount of white head that quickly reduces to a ring. A few lacings.
Bought a 25 OZ. can poured into a pint glass. Aroma is a basic grain/corn feel to it. The appearance is pretty appealing, a nice golden color. Taste, is not unpleasant, a real surprise considering its reputation and cost. Smooth but not a weak flavor. Palate, is slightly carbonated and enjoyable. A very respectable beer, a good American malt liquor.
2.7Strong corn nose. Some light white frothy head and a clear deep golden body. Flavour is smooth, full creamed corn and slight hefe. Oddly not bad. Better than many malt liquors of this class.
0.8Poured in to lager glass just because. Pours a whiz yellow with a super head and enough carbonation for a pepsi factory. Aroma is just metal and corn and ash, UGH. Taste is cardboard with sweet cheap malt and corn. hardly any bitterness. Only for bums and broke underage kids.
1.1Yikes. The one I’m drinking is 8.1% and nasty. The aroma is strong sweet and of alcohol. The appearance is nothing special. Taste is strong of alcohol and not good at all. Only drinking as a joke among friends to find the worst beer. Would not want to try again.
1.3Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a clear yellow color with no head whatsoever which means there’s no lacing.
The smell was grainy sweet but also like candy/sugary sweet.
The taste was sweet through the candy/sugary stuff.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with not much to being worthy of having any sort of sessionability about it. Did it sit too heavy but showed a somewhat not too heavy of a body for me to say what I earlier said?
Overall, weird beer, then again, it is a malt liquor, probably wouldn’t have it again.
0.925oz can. Pours a clear urine-colored gold with a white head that disappears quickly. Nose is filled with corn and a spoiled sweetness that should not be consumed. Taste is, fortunately, pretty light and inoffensive, though you can get some of that sickly sweetness coming through. I feel like I’m punishing myself, but it’s a cheap tick.
1.4Tall can. Tastes like sweet musky skunkyness. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet pale musk.
2.3Tall boy can. Pours clear golden yellow with fizzy head. Aroma is pale malt, corn, and faint grassiness. Flavor is pretty solid and tasty for what it is; smooth malty taste without noticeable off flavors. Medium body and carbonation.
2.2Transfer from BA review on 3-18-12 -
Poured from 40 oz. bottle into pint glass
Appearance – A medium golden color with a slightly off white head upon pouring. The head faded fast and gave way to the light film and very little lacing.
Smell – Some corn and a bit of malty bread. Both lighter and mild.
Taste – The taste is mainly bready with a bit of biscuit and corn. A bit of sweetness is present initially then fades a bit toward the middle of the taste only to come back more at the end of the taste. With the sweetness that comes at the end, a alcohol flavor also comes in giving a little bit of “burn” aftertaste. While the sweetness is there throughout, it is not as sweet as many malt liquors out there and dryer in flavor.
Mouthfeel – Very light for an 8.1 % abv beer. The body is more like a standard 5% lager; light with a higher level of carbonation.
Overall – What can I say, kind of a standard malt liquor in flavor only a bit lighter in sweetness and body. It is very easy to drink due to its lighter qualities (sweetness body), although that may not be a good thing due to its heavier qualities (abv.)
2.140oz bottle in our appartment in Maui, picked up from some liqour store in Laihana - whilst maximising tick options, 24/04/14.
Clear golden with a well appointed white head - a decent looking beer.
Nose is bubblegum, light banana skin, toffee, toasted notes, on the of the better smelling ML’s for sure!
Taste comprises grainy notes, sugar, faint caramel, wood chips, pretty bland.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Meh-ish but as malt liquors go not too bad and certainly deserving of a higher average score than it holds. That said approx 36/37 oz of this product were of course recycled!
2.1Pale gold appearance. Smells like vanila pudding and rice crispies. Corn, astringent, not had. Just very little flavor.
4.4Thick feel, lively, fizzy, caramel, hay, cereal, chocolate, and other aroma’s that I can’t really pin point so the aroma is very interesting and unique but strong, can smell it in a large diameter when opened. Price is excellent but it’s hard to find at places in Slidell, LA . I know of only three places that carry it, and keep it in stock due to me being a regular and local. I really Love this beer, Way better than 211 witch I used to drink, but disliked many things about it. The reason for the overall rating is because of a hard time finding places that carry it and because of the very strong aroma. Try it, you will like it.!!! If your choice is " Bold and Strong / High Alcohol content, not sweet or bitter, and cheap (money wise) this beer is then awesome for you".
1.3Tasted on 4/9/14 from a 25oz "Category 5" can purchased at a gas station in Florida. Pours completely clear bright orange with an average white head that slowly recedes to an average collar. The nose is sweet candy corn with a dusty touch and maybe even a hint of something green. The flavor is the same, sweet corn all the way through. The body is medium with almost fizzy, stinging carbonation, and a medium sweet corny finish.
1.0Backlog can. Pours pale yellow with white head. Nose and taste of metal and corn. Light bodied.
1.6Twenty five ounce can. Gold pour with a quickly diminishing white head. Aroma of lemon and metal. Flavor is slightly bitter with some light lemon, apple and metal. Level of carbonation is medium. Body is pretty light.
2.240oz clear glass bottle, thanks to caterwaul. Opened up at a party. Clear golden color. Thin white head. Leaves pretty decent lace, here... Smooth, crisp carbonation. Medium to bigger body. Kind of slick. Pretty drinkable, though, despite the taste. Light bite... Kind of bitter, light alcohol heat. Maybe I’m more buzzed now, but nowhere near as horrible as I remember regular hurricane ("hurlicane") as being. Way better than expected. Pretty smooth, with minimal bite. Some decent hoppiness to it, even. Grapefruit, lemon? Maybe this is a FAF example
1.5Can in Seattle. One extra ounce! Category 5! Be Bold / Be Smooth / Be Powerful. Sigh. Awful malt liquor all the way, more of a headache than even the strong euro lagers I’m used to. Sweet corn liquor, sour sugar water / grain tea. Clear plain corny gold. There is some ’hop’ (?) bite to it, but still awful.
2.8A 25 ounce can that states this as a category 5. This is funny because it is a 4% malt liquor. That is correct I am drinking the rare 4% cat 5. This is thin watery, apple, pilsner malt. I am surprised because for being 4% and a macro there is some flavor. Not terrible and it makes me laugh every sip thinking to myself, 4% malt liquor.
1.440oz bottle into lager glass .... because why not. Clear golden color, so many bubbles, with white head. Aroma of pale malt sweetness, cereal, with slightest fruity/metal note; innocent enough. Taste really takes things south; notes of corn, sugar and bad fruit (grape, apple maybe). Light body, heavy carbonation, watery with clean finish. Probably tops for widespread malt liquor, not that it’s saying much.
