3.8Nearly black, thin head.
Malt, Port, liquorice, old wood.
Very mild, just slightly out, full bodied.
4.0Cuvée 2015, dégustée en 2019.
Très typée. Moins "facile" qu'une Rodenbach. Rouge sombre, mousse fine, réduite, disparaissant rapidement.
3.3$4.85 bottle, WW. Best by August 2022, so plenty of time... Copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma is sour stone fruit. Flavor is tart peach, caramel, sugar, slight tart berry. Sweet for a sour.
2.3Bottle kindly donated by Gurthnar, many thanks. Dark Amber color with medium beige head. Aroma of dolvent, sourness. Sour taste with solvent, caramel, nice sourness. Infected beer.
2.7Bottle at a tasting. There is a pretty strong solvent off aroma and flavour, which mostly ruins the beer. Otherwise this seems to have been a pretty good beer originally, with a decent underlying malty complexity. Not good as is unfortunately.
I would like to rerate someday.
2.9Bottle at tasting with Cuso, MisoW and Gurthnar. Sour aroma and taste, vinegar, solvent notes, medium sour. Medium body, sour solvent vinegar finish. Average.
3.0Bottle at Slovak tasting 06/2019. Pours brown color, lightly beige head. Aroma of solvent, cherries. Taste is sour, solvent, cherries, medium sweet. Not very easily drinkable.
3.5330ml bottle [Cuvée 2013]. Minimally cloudy, redd-ish brown colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Tart-ish fruity and mellow malty aroma, notes of cherry, morello, red berries, hints of plum and blue grapes, a vinegar touch, sweet-ish, caramel malty background. Taste is sweet-and-sour fruity and minmally sugary, caramel malty, notes of cherry, morello, red berries, a touch of blue grapes, plum and lemon, fruit and citric acid, dry oaky overtones, sweet caramel malty basis. Minimally watery texture, smooth and soft palate. Well balanced overall, fairly complex, maybe a tad too sugary sweet, but accordingly highly drinkable. Nice.
3.8Very pretty clear orange-red brew with little foam. It's a wonderful balance of tart, fruity, light malt. Apple Cider Vinegar comes to mind, but more refined, and alcoholic. Long aftertaste. Light mouthfeel. I like this a lot.
4.9Boordevol smaak! Hemels!
3.610 April 2021. Vintage 2015. Cheers to Maarten, Eduard & Domien! Intense aroma of vinegar, sour cherry, bloody iron, lemon peel, wood, horseblanket, cured meat. Taste is a very sour mix of vinegar, lemon, bloody metal, toned down by sweetish dried fruits, pear & almond. Woody, sharp vinegar finish, lingering tart red fruit. Good stuff, the ageing really did this one good although Duchesse de Bourgogne is better.
Original rating: 7/4/6/3/13=3.3. 24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke!
Nice to see this classic passing by. Clear red-brown with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head; little lacing. Aroma of bloody iron, vinegar, sour cherry, wood, red yoghurt, almond. Taste is medium funky sour, vinegar & faint varnish mixed with sour cherries & touch of almond, sweetish notes of caramel, pear, bit woody bitter, phenolic, metallic. Dryish, tart, acidic finish, cherries, vinegar, bit metallic & 'bloody'. Medium body, slick-oily texture, soft carbonation. Drinkable, just a tad too bloody.
3.1Bottle at home. Pours clear reddish brown with small and frothy, cream coloured head. Aroma of vinegar, overripe cherries, nuts, caramel, vanilla, glue, acetone, metal. Taste very sweet with some acetic sourness. Medium mouthfeel.
3.8Pours an amber color with off white head. Funky cherry tart aroma. Tart cherry with a reduced balsamic vinegar sweet tangy character. Reminds me of the bottom of an Italian ice cup.
Notes: bottle from Brussels, Fall 18
4.2330ml bottle from Dranken Geers. Pours deep reddish brown, small tan head. Aroma is strong Flemish red acetic vinegar. Taste is strong, sweet acetic, distant umami, tangy cherry notes, light carbonation. Excellent Flemish red.
3.9From tap at café 't Oud Postje, Molenhof, Oestwleteren, Belgium, Pours cloudy amber liquid, small white head, Aroma: carsmel malty, sour wild, Taste: light to medium sweet, light bitter, medium to heavy sour, funky wild, caramel, fed fruits, sweetish, lemon, Palate: light body, soft to flat carbonation, slick mouthfeel, long sour wild aftertaste, Overall: bit wattery, still very good, enjoyed.
4.3Very nice sour beer, lots of complexity and wood character, quite enjoyable.
2.0Flesje @ Gouverneur Maastricht.
3.8Thicktexture, no foam, sweet cherrytaste in combination with alcohol and oak
3.6Dark brown colour with ruby highlights, looks rather flat, almist no head.
Smell is sour alcoholic wood, dark fruit.
Taste is formidable. Sour sweet and full with a cleansing finish. Alcoholic with caramel andntoffee and toffee and strawberry, cherry fruitiness. Surprisingly clean considering how sweet it starts.
3.3Bottle at tuulensuu, tampere. Dark red color, white head. Aroma has sweet notes, some oak, some cherries. Sweet cherry taste, oak, some bread.
3.8Flaska från SB? Vintage 2010.
1.7Enjoyed this in the past as Strubbe's Grand Cru Flemish Red Ale. Wonder if they changed the recipe, really enjoyed this previously.
Significantly sweet - not as much as Duchesse or Rodenbach, but not a "sour" sour if you know what I mean. Well-balanced, finishes clean, might be good with sausages or other fatty foods but doesn't work as a self-drinker for me.
3.3Red brown clear body and a small diminishing off-white head. Aroma of sweet cherries, brown sugar, oak and vanilla. The taste has medium sweetness and medium sourness. Sweet rather than sour finish.
3.4A solid Flanders red. Sweeter than the average. Nice amount of cherry, earthy qualities and hints of vinegary sourness.
3.5Great woody beginning. Malt, red wood, cherries. Moderate sweetish, nice fresh fruity, caramel, wood and cherries. Great.
