Ichtegems Oud Bruin

Ichtegems Oud Bruin

Old sour beer is blended with sweet young beer before bottling to create a beer with a sour nose, sweet taste, and a slight sour aftertaste. Ichtegem’s goes great with shrimp or can also be used to marinate various kinds of meat in.

Previously at 5.5% ABV.

2.9 33cl at Bier Central Antwerp Aroma is minimal sour, red fruits, wine. Poured dark red, with a foamy Tan head, lacing. Taste has also red fruits but very diluted, a bit vanilla. Watery and super weak finish.
3.6 13/12/2016 @home - 25cl bottle from Malt Attacks. Murky brown with big quicly fading head. Nose is sour, wood, sour fruits. Taste is sour, wood, red wine notes, some sweetness in the back, metallic.
3.1 Bottle. Pours clear red brown with beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty with fruity notes and hints of vanilla. Taste is sweet and fruity with caramel, malt and notes of vanilla. Finish is semi-sweet and malty.
3.4 75cl bottle (vintage?) kindly shared by Bierhandlung in the aftermath of Bier mit Stil 2: Saison. - Oldschool oud bruin sessioner keeping the brakes on most parameters of the style, going for watered down mulled wine to go with seafood: tannic red wine notes and light oak peices by red balsamics, surface lacto, some cherry and Lotus speculaas. Rougher edges in the lacto. A time capsule to early 90s Belgian beer & weekday food culture, in an accessible low profile beer. Porbably one of the better Strubbe beers.
3.4 Bottle at Lao Lao. Overripe red fruit and sweet caramel, grape and sugar, oscillates from sour to sweet on the palate. Fairly tasty stuff but a bit unbalanced and heavy, definitely a difficult style to nail.
3.3 Bottle sample at a tasting at Alexei and Raphaela’s. Thanks Yoav. Murky brown with a tan ring. Baby puke, lactic, a little rotten but all in all faint aroma. Delicate funk and vinous in the mouth. Full body, delicate fizz, a little grape juice finish.
3.7 Dark liquid with red shining. Small head. Heavy and fruity, interesting aroma. Medium body, no carbonisation. Taste is sour and sweet.
3.0 Appearance: slightly hazy deep amber with a short tan head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: muted, red berries, wood (oak), brown sugar. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, mild tart. (6/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly tart finish. (3/5) Extremely mild oud bruin, almost no sour at all. Pleasant and mild, but a bit of a letdown, if I’m honest - I was looking forward to face-puckering tartness, and that just isn’t here. (12/20)
3.0 Medium white brown head, dark brown colour, wine sour pretty wood complex grape smell, medium carbonation low bitter acid watery texture some alcohol wine grape and some wood taste
---- Soberness not garanteed!
3.2 25cl bottle. Light redbrown from brewery Strubbe. Good to drink, and the look simply is great. The aroma hints at dry fruits, red berries. The taste is sugary with bitter and sour notes. But the sourness does not prevail. A nice beverage - yet I love my sour ales a bit stronger.
3.4 Classic but low-profile oud bruin, deep reddish brown with off-white head, soft and creamy character, malt sweetness, very fruity with soft lactic acid touch, but perhaps a bit thin. Did lead to the Ichtegemse Grand Cru, a more ambitious version. Good session beer, as a decent oud bruin ought to be.
3.6 Taste this beer many times since 2007. From 25cl bottle. Old brown color, with light beige head. Aroma: fruits (orange), sour from wood, and sweet too. Medium body. Taste sweet-sour, bit fruits, oak touch. Good.
3.2 Bottle from Willems @ hotel room, France. Hazy brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and dark fruit. Flavor is medium sweet and light acidic. Sweet and light acidic finish. 150714
3.1 Bottle from Willems. Hazy red-brown pour with thin but persistent pale yellow head. Aroma is earthy, mushrooms, light tomato, light on the acidic notes, a bit of oak but no real balsamic or ketchup or cherries. Taste is sweet, woody but not actually acidic, maybe slightly low in the PH but it really just seems to be to keep the sweetness in check, lots of earthy notes, lots of caramel as well. Palate is med bodied with light-med carbonation. Drinkable beer, but off what I expect from an oud red/bruin.
3.2 Dark brown colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet/sour taste with light vinous notes and some vinegar. Also caramel and light mettalic aftertaste. Easy drinkable and refreshing, bit thin.
3.4 Bottle Pours dark brown with red shine . Small , very small white head . Scent is rather sweet, fleshy , oak. Taste is sour, with a sweet back , some oak as well, fleshy . kicks in pretty overpowering but than ends in subtile, sugary-sweet ending . Slightly metallic as well . Decent beer , deserves a better score than the average . But by far not the best in the style . Rerate. Pretty much in complex and sweet , way less good than i remember it being. Lowering the score from the previous 3,8 ( was this perhaps for the grand cru and misrated ??? )
2.8 Pours hazy dark red/brown, almost no head. The aroma contains red wine, caramel, earth and raisin. It tastes medium cherry-like sweet and medium to light funky sour, toning down to a fruity, slightly metallic, bit tart finish. Light body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Just okay. (Edited 25/7/17)
3.8 25cl butelka. Prawdziwie piwny underground. Piwo dla hipsterów :p OCENA : smak : 7/10 pijalność : 6/10
3.5 On tap @ Irreale (Madrid). Strong reddish colour with an off-white head with good duration and nice lacework. aroma has notes of ripe red fruits, with toasted crumb notes, slightly sweet and good maltiness. Flavor is slightly sourish, high presence of red fruits, creamy and smooth on palate with mild notes of wood. The final is mild sweet with a good maltiness.
2.7 Pours a dark brown with little to no head. Very, faint aroma with faint sour and acidic nose. Also a slight funky note in the aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, with a very faint sour aftertaste. You don’t get the sour kind of shock most of them give your taste buds initially. Very mellow and sub par for my standards of a sour. I probably not be trying this one again.
3.9 Bottle. Sour fruit, rude barny notes, slight sewer, all behind a lot of dark sugar. Dark tea color. Harsh tart fruit initial, slight oxidation, grapes and overripe melon, and a touch of chocolate. Thin-medium body with some astringency. Complex aroma. Flavors are mild but quite exceptional.
4.2 Deep red with a foamy head. Aroma of red wine, nuts, caramel, cherries. Taste of cherries, wine, nuts, sweet but easy drinking.
2.6 25 cl. bottle @ home. From Willems. BBF 17/12/2014. Label is in Dutch unlike the Grand Cru which was in English. Pours a very hazy pomegranate chestnut brown with only some beige bubbles for the head. Nose is spoiled red grapes, cheap red wine, wood, sweet jam, molasses and malts. Taste is sweet molasses, varnish, wood, molasses, spoiled red grapes & spoiled cheap red wine, cheap cherry liqueur candy, touch bitter in the back, hint metallic. Reasonable malt & red wine body. Not to different from the Grand Cru in quality which scores much higher here. Still not a fan, tastes like prison-made red wine & also very messy. If I would like to drink crappy wine, I would do just that. Crude but that is how I feel about this.
2.7 Ruikt nergens naar. Mooi bier. Smaakt erg vreemd met een rare nasmaak. Niks bijzonders.
