4.0 A bottle 6,8%. "Innis & Gunn Rum finish". Clear amber color with off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee. Taste is sweet and a bit spicy with tiny alcohol finish. Very good beer.
3.4 7.4% ABV: 330ml bottle. BBD Sep 15, poured into a Gordon badged thistle shaped glass at home on 6th Mar 15 during a Scottish tasting evening I had with myself. Looked lovely, clear toffee apple red/amber with a creamy head in colour and texture. Caramel and toffee nose, very malty in all aspects. I wanted to find Rum and spices but failed in the aroma. However both Rum and spices did appear in the taste, the flavour was a bit too sweet though, even for my sweet tooth, vanilla notes arriving mid-sip and adding to the sweetness, just when a hop bitterness might have calmed down the whole brew and helped to balance out the sweetness. I actually liked it a lot more than most beers I have had from these guys.
5.0 A beer I’d gladly go back to time and time again. Flawless in flavour and fizz. It’s not one I’d tire of.
3.2 Typical Innis & Gunn aroma, toffee, oak, vanilla. getting very slight spiced rum notes. Taste is very similar, toffee being the main player, buttery, creme brûlée, not much rum finish for me. Got a sweet tooth though so its fine with me
3.4 We can recognize the Innis & Gunn signature all over this beer: caramel and toffee...only. And that’s the problem with this brewery; same old candy beer all the time.
3.4 Pours a brown colour. Taste is sweet and malty, some candy. A fairly typical Innis and Gunn beer
3.6 330ml in box, pours clear amber with a small white head, toffee caramel malt, oaky notes and rum, sticky molasses, balaned tidily with a long bitter finish with rum in the aftertaste. Lively carbonated with a light body, thin slighly creamy texture and a crisp finish. Good.
3.6 33cl bottle from Aldi, Bracknell. ABV 7.4% A bright golden amber colour with a rapidlly dissipating head and lots of carbonation; rather subdued aroma - some vanilla wood but little else; the taste is a good balance of rum, light spice and vanilla from the wood; the finish has a lingering toasty sweetness. Rather pleasant and well-balanced.
3.5 Pours copper with a big head that vanishes instantly. Aroma of vanilla. Taste of toffee, orange and vanilla.
3.3 Bottle at home, Pours amber, bit more interesting than the usual far, sweet toffee and spicy rum.
3.1 Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 9E adapted). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L4169 10:01. AROMA: semi-sweet caramelized aromas, with some roasted notes and aged rum. no hop aromas and very faint esters. some spiciness. APPEARANCE: dark amber / Brown and translucid. thin slight ivory head with low retention. TASTE: hints of aged rum as some roasted notes and sweet caramelized malt. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: an interesting barrel aged scotch ale but nothing more.
3.7 poured from the bottle a clear reddish orange beer aroma is spicy vanilla flavour has innis and gunn signature notes of toffee vanilla but with some light spiciness sweet without be sickly alcohol kick on finish
3.7 Flaske. Ravfarvet, klar, medium, boblende off-white skum med kort holdbarhed. Træ, acetone, rom, karamel, figner. Sød, maltet, woody, krydret - a la mørk røget kardemomme, allehånde, nelliker. I like ’dis.
3.3 [5544-20130627] 341mL clear bottle. Rum candied fruit grain aroma. Clear, amber orange body with a quick foamy white head. Sweet rum barrel grains flavour. Medium body. Initially unpleasant but grew on me. (7/3/6/3/14) 3.3
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours light orange-brown, slightly hazy, few fingers of white head that disappears quickly, no lacing. Looks like a barley wine in the glass. Aromas of toffee, demerara sugar, caramelised apple - all fairly faint on the nose however. Taste is not nearly as sweet as you’d expect with those aroma notes. Light flavours and medium body. It’s all a bit so-so. Very drinkable, but not very noteworthy.
3.6 330ml bottle. Pale amber colour. Large, frothy, off white head quickly disappeared and left no lacing. Dark fruit and caramel aroma. Pleasantly sweet taste. Medium body, smooth texture and a gentle alcoholic warmth. Would go down well as a nightcap.
4.3 Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique August 2014. Lots of spiced rum in the aroma makes you want yo get straight to drinking this beer. Full in the mouth with the rum blending in well with a mix of fruits and spices.
3.1 Bottled sample pilfered from neighbour. Pours clearing with minimal head. Toffee flavour with spicy notes. Would have this again.
2.8 Bottled 330ml from Tesco in Banbury. Burnished gold with no head. Sweet, sugary, syrupy start to this, vanilla and milky toffee notes. There is a slight spiced apple flavour that comes through. What I can’t get that much of is beer and rum unfortunately. Not really my sort of beer.
2.8 Aroma: sweet and caramel Flavor: sweet with notes of caramel and sugar. Color: brown with a white head
3.5 330ml bottle as a Christmas gift: Sweet with some butter & vanilla, some alcohol & oak. There is some alcohol from the rum & spice with various fruits too. Pleasant smelling one with some malts in the mix as well. Medium amber with a small, bubbly white head about 1cm tall. The beer is clear as well. Sweet malts with toffee & caramel, vanilla & butterscotch as well with plenty of alcohol infused throughout. Some oak & malts feature but the alcohol and spices seem to dominate along with a taste of diluted rum. Smooth & warming from the spices & rum with only some grain coming through & a medium body. There is more alcohol coming through that I would have liked but the beer wasn’t a difficult one to drink. Somewhat of a mix bag with a great mix of sweet malts, spices, vanilla and some rum but the alcohol content of the beer was all to apparent throughout and not particularly well masked. Sadly this one wasn’t one of my favourite Innis & Gunn offerings I’m afraid.
2.7 Bottle from Aldi; clear burnished amber pour with thin thin head, toffee aroma, taste has a hint of spice and vanilla, mostly caramel and malts with some fruit action.
2.5 Flaske 0,33l Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Drukket på RV124 4 Feb 14. Gyldenbrun. Middels høyt luftig skum som varer en stund. Forsiktig aroma av rom. Smaken er uttynnet rom. Hint av pepper. Kunstig helhetsinntrykk.
3.3 330 ml bottle. A clear, deep golden body with an off-white head. Aroma has vanilla and some butterscotch, but the level of butterscotch feels pretty OK in this one. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, wood, vanilla, hint of spices and not much bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste. Not bad, a bit too sweet, almost a bit dessert like and would probably work as an after meal drink.
3.0 pours a dark toffee color, little head, caramel, some bread ,toffee, rum taste, smooth , some carbonation, not very complex.
3.1 Typically recognisable I&G beer. Vanilla not quite as prominent, masked by a fruity sweetness from the rum presumably. Not the best from this brewery but pleasant enough. Low carbonation and minimal head on this beer.
3.6 0.33l clear bottle wrapped in a paper box. Have to admit that it’s some time since I’ve had a Innis & Gunn beer now, but it looks like it should. Whisky colored and crystal clear in the glass with a small quickly islandy off-white top. I like the sweet caramelly nose with peppery and spicy tones. A little bit of butter and butterscotch also wrapped in between here. Surprisingly smooth in the mouth with a light oily almost creamy mouthfeel wrapped in a average small bubbly carbonation level. It has that well known sweetness that all their beer has, in addition to this a peppery spicy and woody flavor. I’m actually liking what I’m tasting. Not cloying at all and there is a well balanced little hint of alcohol all the way that makes it a bit more interesting. I’m no big rum drinker, but I think I’m tasting the rum as well and it has a vanilla theme all the way through. Not bad at all. 11.07.2013
2.7 Bottle. A copper colored beer, clear, with a dense light beige head. Vanilla, wood and brown sugar in the aroma. Caramel, tending towards butterscotch, Bread and toffee, with a little sweetness. Full body and a nice carbonation. Caramel and bread in the end. Decent, but too boring. 131129
(Rating #5324)
2.8 Another Innis & gunn beer with standard oaky character. Decent amber, nice lasting head. Some spice in the taste. Like has been stated before, those extra notes seem like add-ins and not really coherent. Feel is medium, not great.
