Innis & Gunn The Original

Innis & Gunn The Original

Our newly branded flagship beer, the one that started it all. Our unique bourbon barrel ageing process brings flavours like vanilla and toffee and we've combined this with the malty character of our Scotch Ale to create an incredible taste experience.

We brew The Original using our unique barrel into beer method, turning the traditional beer into barrel process on its head without losing any of the wonderful flavours and aromas from the barrel.

3.3 Aroma is fudge and toffee alongside malts and peat. Taste is smooth, slightly sweet caramel with just a hint of the whisky at the end. A little bit of citrus and oakiness. Nice winter drink.
2.0 Helt ok öl, lite väl sträv smak. Ljus IPA
3.8 Bottle from a local beer distributor in Pittsburgh. I would have liked it to have more presence of Scotch and a heavier body, but not too bad overall.
4.0 Gran sabor recomendadisima sabor a madera
3.4 香甜但唔lasting At Cbig Home
4.5 Always A Fan!
2.9 Clear amber colour, white head. Sweet, alcoholic aroma with honey, caramel, licorice and mandarin. Medium body with light but harsh carbonation. Moderately sweet flavour with toffee, caramel and mango with a bitter aftertaste.
3.9 660ml and 330ml Bottles. Sampled in 2021, 2007, 2004 and 2003. Golden coloured with a large bubbly white head of foam. It has a rich vanilla, dried fruit and toffee flavour with sweet fruit, oak and smooth vanilla on the rich, but light finish. With a hint of American Cream Soda!
3.3 Interesting beer with excellent after-flavor. It is heavy and warm feeling with a sweet after flavor - noticeable toffee and vanilla flavors, with something a little sweet, like plum/raisin. I liked it as a novelty but definitely could not drink multiple of these. It stayed tasty as it warmed and there was no bitterness to it.
3.1 Bottle pour. Cloudy dark yellow with a large foamy off white head. Aroma is raisin, plum, and dark fruit. Light to medium smooth body. Little salty with sweet finish.
3.5 Clear amber colour with large white head. Smell of malt, caramel and vanilla. Taste of malt, caramel, oak and vanilla. Very pleasant. Tasted on Mols with Lars
3.6 330ml bottle from Morrisons. Clear brown-amber, small off-white head, nice retention. Aroma of sweet malts, whisky, earth, wood; interesting. Taste is sweet, malty, oak-whisky notes, vanilla; there is a nice build up of flavours on the palate despite it being relatively simple. Medium body and carbonation, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Good.
3.8 Bottle shared with JFE at Vaaland Bryghuus 10.04.21. Clear darjk golden. White head and lacing. Aroma and taste of sweet malt, caramel, brittle, oak and vanilla.
3.7 Pale copper, white head and lacing. Bottle shared with E.O at Vaaland. Marmalade, wood, recin. Both appearance and taste reminds me of the Scottish hangover drink nr. 1: Iron Brew :)
3.1 Bottle from an online shop, drunk just after finding out I can't disassemble sodas to make guns in Cyberpunk after the latest patch. Clear golden, small vanishing head. Vanilla oaky nose, nothing astounding. Flavor is smooth malt, slight sweetness with some woody oak tannins and mild earthy hops. I don't get much bourbon honestly. Decent but not really what I was expecting.
3.5 I enjoyed this a fair few times back in the day visiting Scotland when I met my wife. This rating from is from 2014 - 330ml bottle, pours amber with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, biscuit, vanilla, honey, grain, oak & malt. Moderate body. Sweet mildly bitter finish. Still enjoyable even though taste buds have moved on
4.3 Amber.. lovely toffee and vanilla. Bourbon. Smooth and excellent strength. Really love this. 2nd pint excellent. From bottle. Third bottle continues to impress
3.0 12oz? bottle. Poured a clear dark amber color with a creamy, off-white head. Aroma was, well, not as barrel aged as I expected. Woody vanilla. This is a huge throwback to when I first got into craft beer - maybe more like an ESB or some other British-style bitter? I actually kind of like it, especially going in with lowered expectations.
3.3 33cl bottle from Stonemanor, The British Store near Brussels. F: big, white, good retention. C: gold, clear. A: malty, caramel, bit woody, vanilla touch, peach, honey. T: medium malty base, sweet fruity, bit woody, vanilla, some honey, buttery touch, spicy, medium carbonation, ok, enjoyed.
3.6 Deep amber body with a lightly off white head. The aroma has strong notes of vanilla and butterscotch. There is also some fresh cut wood, but that rich buttery character overwhelms it. The taste has some rich toffee and wood notes. There is also some light vanilla, but it is subtle. Overall, it is an interesting beer and it seems to benefit from the oak aging. However, I can only see it being a pleasure to those that love a light and buttery tasting brew
3.0 For a barrel-aged beer, it's a bit bland. Pours a clear chestnut colour with frothy white head, and a hint of honey-sweet whiskey on the nose. There's a sweet malty taste that carries through on a thin mouthfeel, but there's no real complexity to it
3.0 500ml can. Golden/slight amber color with quick evaporating head. Aromas of malts and brown sugar. Taste feels quite artifical to be honest. Almost no hop presence. brown sugar taste, caramel and malted barley . Monotone smooth aftertaste. Meh... Bottom line: Hard to recommend to someone who's a fan of scotch ales.
0.8 Definitely one of the most bland and artificially flavoured scotch ale I have tasted. Smoky and sweet almost like a fake maple syrup. Don’t waist your money on this one.
3.0 Reasonable beer. Bourbon provides a little rounded smoky and malty sweetness.
3.5 Mycket god! Bitter men ändå med fräsch citrussmak, bra balans!
3.4 Bottle 0.355L Clear amber-to-copper body with an average, frothy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with some lacing, though; low density of average-sized particles. Moderate malty (caramel, whiskey) aroma with notes of vanilla, toffee and some fruits. Moderate sweet flavour; long-lasting finish with notes of whiskey. Medium body with oily texture; average carbonation.
3.4 0,33l bottle. Pours clear amber with white head. Hint of whisky from the barrel, caramel malt. Bitter finish.
3.8 Mycket smak av karamell, hög alkoholhalt
3.0 330ml bottle from a local Co-op in Epsom. Pours clear amber with a white head. Aroma of malt and soap. Malt taste with a hint of whisky. Sweet finish.
3.4 Pours a clean, transparent amber with a good-sized white head that shows good enough persistence. Rather intense and clean, though not especially deep aroma: dominant fruitiness (in the likes of dried orange colored fruits such as orange and apricot), with delicate background notes of caramel and toffee. Taste notes follow the aroma, with malty notes (caramel, light toffee) now more evident and in balance with the fruity component. A rather dry though perhaps not super clean finish. Barrel ageing is barely if not at all perceptible, but that's not necessarily bad. Medium to dense bodied with medium to low carbonation, perhaps a tad higher than usual for an english strong ale. Overall a semi-full, slightly warming mouthfeel. Maybe not impressive, but a nice one.
