Iron Hill Ironbound Ale

Brewed as an American Pale Ale, it’s a celebration of American hop varieties: Cascade, Crystal, Centennial and Chinook. You won’t be dissapointed.

4.0 I actually really enjoyed it. I’m not much of a lager fan but this was a totally different animal. Rich, malt, and sweet. It had a kick to it. I also enjoyed a pint of their Belgian Wit. That was also pretty damn good. But if you know me well, you know I had to talk something home. This is where the Ironbound Ale came in. I took a look at Beer Advocate for something that wasn’t to huge and I came up with buying a growler of this APA. Ironbound Ale pours a cloudy orange color. A huge head is poured with great lacing and retention. Smell is really nice and clean. A nice hop kick. Not IPA huge but really nice for an APA. Citrus and floral aromas with a nice caramel malt background. Bottom line is this is one of the best American Pale Ales I’ve ever had. Taste is fresh, crisp, and clean. Nice amount of caramel and toasted malt. Mixed in with the fresh citrus hops and you have a real winner here. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp, and goes down so easy
3.4 Pours clear amber with an off white head. Aroma is citrus, caramel and earthyness. Taste is sweet with light bitters on the finish. Refreshing.
3.6 Tap - Newark. Pours clear orange/copper with a medium, creamy white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is fruity esters, floral and fragrant hops with cereal and biscuit malt. Flavor is medium hops and bitterness with supporting malt and fruity esters, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.
3.5 Draft @ brewpub. Pours clear copper with thin off-white head; great lacing. Aroma is hoppy with notes of citrus fruits. Initial flavor is floral hops with a grapefruit finish. Citrus flavors make the beer very refreshing, but overall its nothing memorable.
2.8 Draft. Clear copper in color with a two-finger head. The aroma is nice and hoppy with some significant hops, mainly citrusy. The flavor has a caramel and pale malt base with citrusy and somewhat catty hops. Medium-light bodied with average carbonation. Well, they said, "You won’t be disappointed." in the description, but sorry guys... Maybe it was a bad keg or something.
4.1 Pours clear copper with a nice white head and lots of lace. Aroma is very clean, American hops, a little caramel and some floral notes. This has the perfect amount of hops. It’s crisp and refreshing with some sweet malts and citrus.
3.3 Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a clear golden orange color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy bitter flavor. Has a fruity malty hopy finish with citrus in the aftertaste.
3.6 Pint on tap poured amber with white head. Aroma of slight grass and minor pine. Flavor was bitter with a bit of fruit rind. Body was medium with a dry finish. Good session style beer
3.2 This poured a lighter orange to amber color with a beige head. Aroma was of lightly toasted malts, some caramel and a good amount odf bittering and citrus hops. Flavor was a nice blance off caramel sweetness and citrusy medium bitter hops. OK.
3.3 Draft. Pours golden orange with a white head. Citric hoppy aroma with some sweet malty notes. The flavor has citric and floral hops with lightly sweet malty notes. Pretty good.
3.3 From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity and slight citrusy hoppy. Lingering citrusy to crisp hoppy peachy fruity flavours. Bitter, lingering fruity and dry finish.
3.1 Draught at Brewpub. Pours clear gold. White head. Nose/taste of sweet malt, hops and caramel. Some pineapple in the nose. Pleasant.
3.1 Very light nose, touch of honey, light flowers. Taste is lightly sweet, honey, doughy yeast, some light herbs.
3.1 Transparent amber with a frothy white ring. Nose of caramel, dank earth, biting heavy c hop grapefruit, and some fresh pine. Flavor way disappointing, caramel sweetness makes the thin grapefruit seem astringent, stinging against the sugary malt presence. Finish is sticky and tooth rotting.
3.3 Favorite iron hill brew so far. Nice pine aroma on the nose. It’s hard to believe it’s only 30 IBU’s because it seems much hoppier. Of course there aren’t a lot of malt flavors for balance. Finishes fairly clean.
3.7 Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of earthy, citrus hops with barley malts and caramel. The taste is earthy, citrus hops, caramel, barley malt. Lingering bitterness. Medium bodied.
3.9 Clear copper pour with an inch of head. Fresh hoppy aroma, citrus, floral, and an underlying caramel. Medium bodied. Flavor is very fresh with the hops really showing through. Refreshing. Citrus and grapefruit along with light floral. Hits the spot.
3.3 on tap. a nice american pale ale. a nice hop aroma and taste but not over whelming. medium bodied. drinkable and refreshing.

3.8 on draft at the brewpub, pours light amber with a tall off white head. Aroma is light grapefruit and pine. Flavor is well balanced bread malts with tons of hop character.
3.8 Pouring at the opening of Hill Farmstead courtesy again of Jean. Pours a clear orange amber with a medium sized white head. Slightly cheesy hops, big citurs and earth. Sweet with a deep malt and supple hop flavor. Very sessionable, ending with a light bitter grapefruit tone.
3.7 Draft at Iron Hill Maple Shade. Citrus and pine hops make a good flavor, but still fairly light. A good, and easy drinking IPA with nothing overpowering.
3.8 Draft. Orange pour with some white head. Citrus and pine notes aromatic and flavor wise. Hopped up APA is nice.
3.6 Nice color - orange with a bit of green. Fresh hop aroma. A fresh and mellow APA - solid. On tap in Wilmington.
3.9 On tap at North Wales location. Very nice color, aroma, and taste. Aroma is lightly hoppy. Small white head. Taste is easily sessionable and not over done in the hops. It comes in at 30 IBU’s. Good beer.
3.4 goldish brown body, thin beige head. aroma are light, good hop presence, bitter yet balance. its piney and citrusy, medium bodied, good malt profile. its a little buttery which smooths the hops out. the aftertaste is bitter and pungent and hangs around a good while.
2.9 Pours a very pale golden orange color that has more of a yellowish tint with golden yellow hues when held t a light sour e and a one finger foam white head with decent retention, slowly fading into a lastig ring. Slightly earth hop aroma with very subtle pine notes and a prominent biscuit malt backbone. Not much of a citrus presence and doesn’t smell as hoppy as the description had me hoping for. Pretty hop forward for a pale ale and much more than the aroma suggested. Nice amount of dry bitterness with hints of earthy pine which is quickly balanced by a nice malt back bone with a prominent biscuit flavor. Slightly floral with a slight earthy straw presence. Well balanced, fuller bodiedtuan expected and a very drinkable session beer. Just don’t tell the English!
3.9 Draft. Pours an amber orange body with an off white head. Hints of citrus, and pine, a green grass y toned hop body with some light floral hop tones. Real nice!
3.4 Draft at Wilmington location. Poured a light amber color with a big tan head on top. Some grapefruits, pine, and lemons in the subtle aroma. Thin to medium-bodied. Flavor-wise, there is a bit of sweetness upfront that is quickly replaced by a bittering dryness that lingers. Caramel, grapefruits, and lemons are all noticeable. On the grainy side throughout. Pretty forgettable, but still a solid session beer.
