3.7 APPEARANCE - total black out in my glass. Beigh colored head that sticks around and great lacing. NOSE - light scents, but not overly interesting. FLAVOR - stout at the front, strong hop bitterness at the end. Not substantially roasty or deep flavors.
3.9 16 ounce can thanks to Greg. This pours black with tan head. Creamy with big notes of chocolate. Moderate nose. Roast. Very good.
4.0 Cocoa in the aroma, a bit of alcohol venting. Near black color, opaque, large tan-colored head. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee; deep, rich maltiness, tobacco, fine alcohol syrup in the finish with a good dose of resin/pine hops and moderate bitterness. Medium full, smooth and slick texture. Very good hoppy Imperial Stout. Wish there was more to the aroma though.
3.7 Bottle split at Bruces pad - for the last time, big thanks to Padraig, 27/03/15. Light black with a decent tan covering. Nose is roast malt, chocolate, spice, earthy, dark toffee. Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, hint of liquorice, toffee, charr, dark fruits. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough imperial stout, not overly complex but an approachable easy drinking number.

3.6 Bottle share, thanks to MannyGoldberg. Black, small tan head. Aroma is smoke, yeast, chocolate, dry metallics. Body is medium to light, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is rounded malt, soft ash, light metallics, dry finish, quite bitter.
3.4 Bottle thanks to Manny G. It pours dark brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, coffee, cocoa, candied citrus peel and earth. The taste is rich roast, earth, toasty, charred wood, cocoa, vanilla, varnish, booze and mild acidity with a dry, rich roasty finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Perhaps too dry. Very dry. Ashy. OK.
3.8 Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Padraig. Pours black with a dense, creamy beige head. The nose has a lot of burnt marshmallows, cocoa, earth. Medium sweet flavor with mild roast, some dark fruits, burnt earth, charred grains, raisins. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with lots of char character, ash, baking cocoa, burnt marshmallow, earth, grains. Pretty well balanced overall.
3.8 Draft - Lots of dark roast, dark chocolate and coffee. Jet black with a rich beige head. Big bold roast, coffee and chocolate with a big bitterness to accompany. Classical styled.
4.1 Served on-tap at Iron Hill - Lancaster during their recent X-Mas in July event. A - Pours jet black; with hints of brown around the edges; with a small half finger tall tan head leaving streaky lacing down the glass. S - Smells of coffee, bakers chocolate, dark roasted malt, licorice, light smoke, and sweet dark fruits. It is complex yet it smells like any other RIS would. T - Starts off with plenty of rich coffee quickly giving way to a mix of sweet bakers chocolate, dark roasted malt, light smoke, and some sweet dark fruits. It has lots of smokey roast yet it remains quite drinkable. The finish has plenty of dark roast, mixing with some chocolaty sweetness, to linger on the pallet long after the finish. M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Rich, roasty, feel with plenty of it lingering through the finish. O - Very nice. I see why this has won all those GAFB medals over the years. It has lots of things going on inside it, yet it remains drinkable and easy to enjoy. I am glad they snuck this keg on at the last minute.
4.1 3 year old bottle from my cellar shared at Damico’s. Pours black with some tan head. Aroma is not strong, but still pleasant with notes of black malt, coffee and chocolate. First sip is glorious with huge mocha and roasted notes. Finish is sweeter than expected with hints of vanilla. Great stuff
4.2 Aged 3 years! Pours thick dark unclear with a creamy beige cocoa mixed head. Aroma brings light sweet mocha and roasted dark cacao. Flavor is amazing, bringing huge mocha notes and some dark cacao nibs on a beautiful creamy body.

3.9 draft at iron hill newark..billed as a full bodied stout that starts with a complex malty sweet and high roasted character that is wonderfully balanced with the use of citrusy american hops..this really was enjoyable and one of the better offerings I have enjoyed from iron hill..solid representation of the style..good complex character..roasty..not overpowering..tasty
3.8 Bottle. Pours a deep opaque black with a small tan head that has good retention and leaves sticky rings of lace. Aroma of bakers chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and notes of licorice. Flavor was sweet bitter & creamy with roasted malts, mild coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, licorice and had an oily texture with soft carbonation.
3.3 Pour is close to black with a finger-wide brown head. Aroma is of roasted coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and booze. Flavor is on the malty side but is very overpowered by roast. Boozy finish, medium bodied.
3.8 Draft from WC. Dark color, lots of head. Heavy, thick body, medium-long duration. Oat, nut, cocoa flavor. Excellent.

3.9 Bottle. Pours a deep black color with a massive, tan frothy head. Large, licorice aroma with a roasted malt and oat background. Sweet taste with licorice and milk chocolate. Pretty solid stout. Love the flavor.
3.6 Black pour orange hue with a thin beige head and light thin striped lacing .... aroma of roasted and caramel malts, a bit sugary almost lactose like with mostly piney hops dominating ..... taste is of roasted and caramel malts, bitter dark chocolate and a piney hop bite that lingers into a dry bitter roasted/chocolatey finish ..... malty and hop balance with the abv hidden well .... body is medium to heavy .... solid RIS

3.8 Draft at NHC. Pours a deep brown-black with a brown head. Nose has some sweet molasses and moderate roast. Low hops and malt driven. On tasting, sweet with moderate balancing roast and a big bitterness. Finishes off dry. Good but doesn’t really have much complexity overall.
3.9 Black body, tan head. Chocolate and oats in the aroma. The taste is complex and layered with chocolate, roast, burnt licorice, anise, and vanilla. Velvet smooth consistency.
3.9 On tap at Pro Brewers Night, AHA Philadelphia 6/27/2013 Big bold sweet coffee caramel and chocolate malt countered by some earthy spicy hops. Nice Stout.

4.2 Shared by Megan. Thanks! The beer is a deep dark brown with minimal head. Big chocolate roast and char aroma. The flavor follows suit. Rich and viscous with fairly low carbonation. Alcohol content hidden gracefully. Overall, a splendid beer and terrific example of the style. I would relish the opportunity to have this again.
