Created by the brewery’s founder, Quilter’s Irish Death is The Iron Horse Brewery Flagship Beer. The color of this beer belies its drinkability. We lovingly refer to it as beer candy. Irish Death is loaded with a f#*!-ton of different malts and just enough hop presence for balance. Smooth enough to session, but too strong to do so.

3.4355ml can, Antenna America, Kannai. Pours dark brown with some light brown foam on the top, disappearing fairly quickly. Nose is nutty, some caramel and strong malty base there, lightly spicy. Bitter notes. Taste is caramelly as well, light toasted character with subdued malt sweetness in the background. Bittenress giving an extra edge. Light tartness there. Dry finish with some spices lingering together with bitterness on the tongue even after drink itself is long gone.
2.4355ml can. thanks Devyn. Pours dark brown with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is pomegranate juice and raisin. Flavor is sweet and spiced, bit metallic. nothing special.
3.5One of my favorite beers. A dark malty beer that is very smooth. Nice balanced taste w/ hints of chocolate and caramel. Enjoyed this as a draft at the Iron Duck Restaurant in Ellensburg. Nice place
4.6This is a beer for people who don't like dark beer. This beer is sweet, chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee. It's not to light or heavy. I bought a case of cans at Costco and have given some to friends and every one really likes it. It is strong, but doesn't taste like a 7.8%. It is a sipping beer, no a fast drink.
3.522 ounce bottle I bought when out west and brought home to try. I can smell the malt. Dark brown in color with a beige tan head. Sure taste the malt, and caramel. Smooth and alcohol well hidden. Very nice and drinkable for the style. Cheers!
5.0My most favorite dark beer!!! I drank this beer while living in Port Townsend WA. Can’t get it in N or S Carolina😞😞😞
4.5Smooth, rich earthy taste, pleasant aftertaste. Would not recommend chugging, savor or move along. Too dark if you're only into pale ales, but if you can handle a little sweetness and some darkness it's worth the drinking. My personal poison of choice.
3.7Can from Total Wine, Bellevue. Dark brown color when a large, foamy head. Sweet malt, chocolate and caramel, brown sugar, a little dough. Smooth, somewhat sticky mouthfeel. It's a little too sweet, but I rather like it.
4.0From a can into a Het Kapittel chalice. Pours dark brown with brown head and lace. Aroma of caramel, milk chocolate. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, chocolate, subtle raisin and prune, caramel, slight molasses. Overall rich, flavorful, smooth and tasty.
3.7Almost black with a dark tan head. Rich dark grain and chocolate aroma. Caramel / brown sugar malt. Medium bodied. Caramel and rich malt complex flavor with a dark chocolaty finish.
3.0Bottle shared at DCLawyer’s, thanks Chris! Dark brownish with beige head. Aromas of malt, caramel. Tastes of malt, caramel. Medium-light body with a dry finish.
3.5Originally rated using the RateBeer application on my phone. For some reason errors erased my notes and made it a tick. I no longer have the reference notes.
3.1Draught @ the brewery. Pours a mostly opaque dark brown with a thin beige head. Nose is rye bread and grains. Flavour is sweet bready grains with a lasting semi sweet malt character.
3.212 oz. can from poisonneddwarf - thanks again! Pours a deep, cloudy chestnut brown with a small beige head that settles into a ring and some others of film. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, dried dark fruits, toasted brown sugar, nuts, banana, and fudge. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a sweet, earthy mouthfeel that has a dash of umami. It’s okay.
3.7Thick and consistent head with light caramel color.
Strong chocolate aroma.
Dark reddish brown color that has some clarity.
Smooth texture with a late bite.
Chocolate and coffee flavor notes.
Grassy aftertaste that dissipates quickly.
3.3From a bottle. Blacl beer. Malt aroma. Flavor is malt, milk sugar, and a little red wine. Good palate, but maybe too sweet.
3.065cl fles. Helder donker bruin kleur, fijne romige licht bruine schuimkraag. De geur van karamel en rozijnen. Smaak is zoet, karamel, noten en rozijnen. Medium Lichaam, Veel koolzuur.
3.5Draft in Port Angeles WA. Aroma is sweet malt. Dark brown color with beige head that fades, good lacing. Flavor is sweet malt, a little nut, raisin. Med body with soft carbonation. Easy drinking but not so memorable.
3.3On tap in Boise Idaho.
Essentially black but clear body with an excellent tan head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: higher ABV evident along with dark roasted grains.
Flavor follows the aroma, with some booze, dark bread and spicy hops.
Overall: too boozy and hot.
3.5Had it on my golf trip. It was the best I found that wasn't a normal beer on the cart. You're welcome
3.4Served this ale after volunteering at a mountain bike race. Had no idea what it was. Love at first sip. Kinda buzzed after one can too!
3.9Draft @ RL, GEG. Aroma is sweet malt. Dark brown color with beige head that fades, good lacing. Flavor is sweet malt, a little nut, raisin. Med body with a little carbonic bite. Very good beer! No real style. A little like a Belgian Dubbel. Does not taste it’s strength.
3.612 ounce can. The beer is a dark brown with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has sweet nutty notes, caramel, some mild ash notes. The taste is sweet and sugary up front, but as it sits on the tongue, more bread crumb notes develop. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.1Can. Really dark brown. Not sure what to make of this. ..its kind of homeless. Its like a strong ale meets dry stout. Not sure why its sweet stout.
3.9Bottle - 22 ounce to wine glass
Appearance: dark brown, with small medium light brown foam
Smell: aroma of malt
Taste: very good, Balance, medium bitterness
Mouth feel: good. Taste is no bold, follow through not long, like something is lacking
Overall: Very good beer, not to repeat nor look for.

3.3Bottle. Black beer with a dark tan head. Rich malt and light chocolate aroma. Caramel and light raisin flavor. Medium bodied. Caramel and rich malt linger.
3.0Can from Downtown Spirits. Dark brown black colour, nice slightly off white foam. Lots of interesting dark malt flavours, but not roasty or bitter, sweet, caramel, treacle, sugar. Lacks bitterness to cut through it. And it tastes kind of hot and boozy. Might be interesting in small doses with dessert but otherwise just a bit cloying.
3.6Tap on layover at Seattle airport. Dark with tan head. Coffee and dark fruit smell. Flavor follows. Lightly bitter finish.
3.6From can, the pour is dark brown with a a creamy brown head that lingures. The aroma is initially alcohol, vanilla and coffee. The taste is a little herbal, bright hops but not hoppy, hints of coffee. Smooth, creamy with a thick mouthfeel. The finish is sweet, malty, and a little alcohol. I like this beer, it appears dark, but taste is not a stout or porter, it’s hop profile is a good way to brighten the beer.
