Isle of Skye Black

Isle of Skye Black

The colour comes from dark roasted barley, balanced with just the right amount of sweet, rolled oatmeal. We mill both right here in the brewery, giving us complete control over flavour and freshness. The true taste of malt shines through, balanced by the sweetness of pure Scottish heather honey.

2.8 Bottle, small creamy nubbly head, clear deep brown color with lots of red hues, aroma of very dark bread and dark honey, flavor much the same with maybe a hint of coffee and a bit unpleasant bitterness. Not sure what this brew wants to be.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of sweet caramelised malt, chocolate, ripe fruit and some spice. Taste has sweet caramelised malt, molasses, honey, raisin, fruited chocolate and sticky plum. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice beer.
3.5 July 2018 - 500ml bottle picked up in the Spar in Keith and consumed nearby. As 'Skye Black', 4.5%, BB April 2019. Paired with several KitKats and a Viennese whirl after a full day of drinking whisky. Very dark brown with a red hue, foamy light brown head is large and endures. Aroma is light coal and old burnt wood washed in from the sea, roast malts and brown sugar. Body is creamy and rounded with soft carbonation. Taste is a little roast malt, earthy, semi-dry, just a soft sweetness versus the burnt malt. A touch watery you could say but it's rounded with subtle notes of sweetness suggesting burnt fudge and dried out wood. A pretty good easy-going stout that I would happily drink a lot of. 3.8 500ml bottle as Skye Black. More dark brown than black. Aroma is caramel, honey, coffee & fruit. The taste is similar with medium sweetness and light bitterness with a little sourness on the finish. Quite complex flavours, a little watery on the palate. Very good though.
3.8 500ml bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany with a lasting tan head. Nose is roasted malt, honey, dark Christmas cake fruits, floral hops and some chocolate. Smooth beer, cross between a red ale and a porter. Dark, bitter, fruity and sweet. Lovely.

3.0 Probably from Dobbies, February 2016. Dark ruby with a narrowing beige foam. Thin gruel atop a Black Grouse with little dabs of brittle burnt paper and charcoal character. Nose of rust, liquorice and bramble. More of a rusty schwarz than a stout. It’s OK.
3.1 Aroma; chocolate, roasted malts, nuts, sweet coffee, dust, sweet attic, caramels, vanilla, cream. Look; fawn head, ruby black clear body. Taste; mild roasted malts, caramel, grassy sweet hops, vanilla, cream, milk note - leading to a mild sweet finish, a little hops twist too. Feel; lightbodied, soft. Overall; easy one, clean, very light as porter. [50cl.btl abv4.5% BB.08/2017 #0402 B@Gulating Tromsø]

3.9 500 ml bottle from the brewery store in Scotland. 4.5% ABV with a BB date of 12/2017 Dark mahogany with excellent clarity and sparkling highlights. near even bitter/sweet balance. Good complexity with hints of blueberries, coffee, dark fruits, dark bread and toffee. Fine, lingering aftertaste.
2.8 Bottle 500ml. New batch only called Skye Black. Deep brown with a reddish tint. Sweet aroma with some malts. Soft carbonation and somewhat creamy. Taste is oaty and bready, but it has some really unpleasant metallic notes. Not a huge fan of this, it feels as if you bite your lip really hard...
2.4 Bottle in scotland. Brown colour, small white lacing. Nose is low roasted malts. Taste is low smoke low sourness low bitterness. Low carbonation. Meh.
3.5 Bottle from Bernie’s, West Midlands. Pours dark chestnut brown with an off white head. Aroma of cocoa and malt. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Light/medium body, slight oily texture. Carbonation a bit over average. Finish has a roasted edge and lasting sweetness.
3.4 Best by Jan 2016 500 bottle, gift from trade a while ago... Aroma: aroma of burnt caramel, chocolate, a tad smokey. App: dark burgundy, some big bubbles all around the glass and a minimal foam in the middle. Taste and palate: light to medium body, a tad watery, medium sweetness, sticky, light bitter finish. Overall: aroma ain’t that bad, unfortunately it’s watery thus ruins the experience. Still drinkable and if I would be offered this one by a friend I would drink it without a problem but it’s not something I would buy.
3.2 DWF; Bottle 500ml., from Det Gode Brygg. Pours moderate, dark brown with a creamy, lasting and lacing off-white head. Nose is moderate, roasted malt, sweet honeybread, light berries and spice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a somewhat lasting roasted finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.4 Almost black with thin lacy head. Next to the bitter roasted malts there's a sweet floral honey note and a touch of raisin.
3.2 Pours a black colour. Taste is quite fruity and juicy. Dry and grassy on the palate. Not bad
