Ithaca Nut Brown

Ithaca Nut Brown

The rich mahogany hue of the Nut Brown is the first thing you will notice about this complex, malty brew. A delicate blend of chocolate malt, caramel malt, and four other malts brings to this beer a chocolatey sweetness, and hints of coffee. The malt character is subtly balanced with Northdown and Fuggles hops.

3.5 12 fluid oz bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown with a tan head that quickly diminished. Aromas of cocoa, biscuity malt, light citrus, light dried fruits, and molasses. The taste starts with a light smokey note, cocoa, coffee grounds, a faint spearmint note, and a bitter finish. Reminds me of a lighter Mill Street Coffee Porter. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a totally rock solid dark ale. Recommended!
3.0 Hazy brown amber color, thin rim head, no lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt that adds light chocolate bittering at the finish. Doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Easy drinking, but a little heavy on the back end.
3.8 Bottle. Coffee, nut, and chocolate aroma. Chestnut brown with minimal head. Sweet chocolate and molasses malt flavor. Pecan and lightly bitter herbal finish. Very good.
3.9 Pours brown with red lights, thick tan head. Aroma is roasted nut, coffee, dark chocolate. Flavour is strongly nutty, coffee, creamy malt. Nice roastiness, strong scents and tastes. Very pleasant bittering finish. Nice one.

4.0 Perfect american brown. Thanks to Tom for this. Pours a dark brown with a small brown top. Aroma is hazelnutand a small hop bitterness. Taste is big nut with a small roasty and dry hop bitterness.
3.2 Bottle. Decent American brown. Toffee and nutty notes. Medium to lighter bodied. Not a huge fans of brown ales but this is a decent one
3.3 Heavy aroma of cocoa beans and coffee. Reddish cola appearance. It’s nutty and sweet, but surprisingly bitter and astringent as well. Thin, with the consistency of warmed syrup. Typically American brown ale.
3.3 On tap in The Ginger Man, July 2012. Dark brown with a small head. Sweet aroma and with nuts, toffee, some light roasted malt. Nicely drinkable, descent stuff.
3.5 Chocolatey, nutty brown ale that drinks easily and smoothly. A little thin, though not out of style.
3.6 pours a rich dark brown color with minimal tan head. Aroma is leather and chocolate. Taste is dark malt yet not overly sweet offset by a bit of spicy hops. It then turns chocolate as the taste lingers.
3.3 Cloudy and hazy mahogany color. Not much head formation even after an aggressive pour, but has good carbonation. Mostly malty aromatics with some chocolate powder. Simple tasting nutty and malty and a bit dry on the palette. Plain jane beer.
3.4 Location: 12 oz bottle, 5/17/12 Aroma: This one has a sweet nose of caramel, nuts, dark malts, roast, and coffee Appearance: It has a mahogany-brown pour with a small-mid sized light brown head and spotty lace Flavor: It tastes of sweet malts and roasted malts, lightly bitter coffee and earthy flavors show up later Palate: The body is fairly light for the style, but not particularly watery, and it has a slightly acidic finish Overall Impression: I have no idea where this one came from, but thank you to whomever left it in my fridge! This one is a pretty solid offering. It has some nice nut brown-like components to it, and overall it drank pretty decently. It may not be a top-of-style offering, but I have no major complaints either.
3.6 Pours a clear dark brown color. Aroma is of malts, chocolate, coffee, and some toffee. Flavor is similar. A little nuttyness comes through in the end.
3.3 Tap @ brewery. A bit hazy, dark reddish brown appearance with a fluffy, tan head. Very toasty, caramel, dark chocolate malty, thick nutty aroma. Light syrupy caramel, roasty chocolate malty, moderate espresso flavor.
3.2 [4199-20111217] 12floz bottle. Mild nutty grain aroma. Hazy, dark brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Nutty sour grains flavour. Medium body. Tasty but odd balance. (6/3/7/3/13) 3.2- (w/ jerc) Overheard: "Make it vibrate because Lord knows it vibrates loud enough."
2.7 Dark brown pour, opaque with brown edges, not much head, watery/sticky mouth feel, malty sweet aroma. Not bad, but not as satisfying as other nuts I’ve had.
3.3 From a bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Nutty malty flavor with a quick finish.
2.6 Weird face on the label. IT is a fruitier example than most but with a lot of darker malts. It is okay, average.
3.4 12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours brown/ruby with a thick, cream-colored head. Aroma strong of nuts, caramel, and lightly roasted malts plus some light floral hops. The flavor is a good blend but there is something that doesn’t mix well. Average texture. A pretty good brown ale.
3.5 Nuts, malt, and a little coffee in the aroma. Coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt flavor. This is a solid, enjoyable beer.
3.0 Bottle- Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that fades quickly and not real lacing. Aroma of roasted nuts, abit of caramel and a soft sweetness. Taste of mild nut and a bit caramel. There is a subtle bitterness and a dry finish. Moderate body, smooth and a bit creamy. Nice casual beer for the style. Good for a couple.
3.7 12oz bottle, pours a murky brown with a red hue and a nice tan head, the aroma has a good amount of coffee on the nose with some toffee and chocolate, the flavor has a good amount of chocolate on the front end with a coffee finish, actually this one is pretty tasty, a little thin on the mouthfeel is my only complaint, nice offering from Ithaca.
3.4 Bottle. Deep brown color. Smells of chocolate, carmel and mild hops. Taste is crisp and malty with a nutty backbone. Quite enjoyable
2.8 Bottled. Poured chocolatey brown with a short, fairly dense beige head. The aroma picked up soft nutty and chocolate notes with some malty sourness accenting.. some earth and toffee as well.. not exciting, but certainly pleasant. The flavor found a blend of milk and slightly darker chocolates plus nutty notes at the core.. tart, somewhat medicinal character around.. finished dry and a touch sour with more chocolate. Light-bodied and dry on the palate.. OK stuff, but the bottle seemed old.
3.1 On tap at Ithaca Memorial Day weekend 2011. Pours a dark brown color with a moderate off-white head and a slight bit of lacing on the way down. Thin collar throughout. The nose brings a bit of lightly-roasted malt plus chocolate and a touch of coffee. The flavor has some brown malt and mild sweetness. Some caramel and a bit of brown sugar. Light chocolate and a bit of a dry roast coming through toward the finish. Actually, a bit too dry for what the flavor had. Medium body with average carbonation. Pretty standard brown; I’d have it again. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 06-04-2011
3.4 A - Pours a dark brown color that is just slightly clear around the edges and a find of frothy off-white head atop. The head fades down to a ring around the edges lacing nicely in the process. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet roasted caramel malts and lots of nutty aromas. Also a touch of coffee mixed in as well. T - Starts off with some nice roasted flavors and a bit of coffee flavor mixed in. Through the middle some nutty flavors come out alongside some stronger roasted flavor. The finish is a mix of roasted coffee and some sweet caramel that lingers nicely. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and fairly crisp. The roasted flavors really linger nicely on the tongue. Feels a touch watery. D - Very drinkable. The flavors are for the most part nicely balanced and I like the nuttiness in the beer. The sweetness and roasted flavors are also really nicely balanced.
3.5 Bottle from Spuyten Duyvil bottle shop. Pours darker brown with foamy dark beige head. Nose is sweet, rich, and malty. Mild hops. Hazelnuts and mild chocolate. Similar taste; sweet, with added creaminess. Light palate.
2.9 12 oz. bottle pours dark brown with reddish tint when looked through at a light. 1/8" head which disappears quickly. Smells of coffee, nuts, and bread noticeable. Taste is nutty and coffee like with hint of caramel. Strange how most beers tastes are enhanced as they get warmer, but here it seems to lose something as it gets warmer?? When I first started drinking this, I thought I was going to really like it but it seemed to get worse. I actually went back and changed my rating for taste.. Ok beer but not one I’d look for again...
3.3 Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium nutty sweet finish of moderate duration. Good above average brew.
