Jackie O's Dark Apparition

Jackie O's Dark Apparition

This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

3.7 Last beer of the night, 8th January 2022, in an Air B&B, Jochua Tree, California. Jet black body with a wispy tanned head. Slick and boozy with malty molasses giving off various aromas and flavours like dark chocolate, coffee and toffee.
3.2 Pours black with a thin tan head. Molasses, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Seemed kind of thin and insubstantial to me for an imperial Stout. An OK beer. Expected something a bit more.

The best hoppy imperial stout from Ohio state.
3.7 12 ounce can at The Winking Lizard in Copley, Ohio. Smell the malt. Black in color with with a brown head. Taste the malt. Smooth and heavy bodied. Alcohol is well hidden. Heavy malt aftertaste. Nice winter warmer. Cheers!
4.5 05-12-2020 @mas_ibus Torrelavega Color negro. Aroma a frutos secos, ciruelas pasas, café tostado y caramelo. Sabor a café, chocolate y caramelo.
3.8 On tap at the brewery. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, dark chocolate, wood. Thick, chewy, roast, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla, rich, dry finish, very good.
3.6 Bottle picked up from Biervana, München and consumed at Campsite Karwendelcamp, Scharnitz, Austria, Friday 11th July 2019 sat inside Frank (camper) it's raining again now. Pours shark eye black with a light tan head. Super smooth and creamy mouthfeel, some rich chocolate notes. Unfortunately the taste is not living up to expectations, don't get me wrong, it's fine enough but it's not the beer I hoped for. It's got the usual big Impy Stout hallmarks but really other than this it's no better than a whole host of similar beers excepting the great mouthfeel.
4.0 Semmi hab, fekete szín. Étcsokis, kávés, kakaós, aszalt feketegyümölcsös illatok. Csokis, kávés, kakaós ízek, aszalt szilvás és aszalt feketegyümölcsös aromákkal. Testes, alig szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Kiváló, mintaszerű imperial stout.
4.4 Aroma is dark chocolate, malt, and alcohol. Light aroma overall though. Dark brown in color and mocha head. Taste is medium roast, alcohol, soy sauce, milk and dark chocolate, sweet caramel, and umami. Pretty easy to drink for the alcohol content. I can see how the barrel aged version of this can be very good. Very creamy, milky palate.
3.9 Pours dark black with a tan head, smooth palate but definitely a boozy bite, plenty of roasted malts, bottle.
4.1 Bottle, 0.375l. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, cocoa, molasses and dried fruit. Pours almost black color with thin creamy light brown head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with moderate sweet roasted malt, coffee and molasses, follows by caramel and nuts, mouthfeel is warm and moderate spicy, while finish is medium grassy bitter. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. The Apparition by Iron Maiden...
3.2 Bottle sample at a tasting. Deep brown with brownish-yellow head. The aroma has notes of dark chocolate, alcohol, cocoa, coffee, caramel. The flavor is very sweet with notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, alcohol, kind of Baltic Porter, toffee, some fruitiness. Full-bodied.
3.7 Bottle at a tasting. Brown-black, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate. Sweet, chocolate, prunes, caramel, alcohol. Medium-bodied, smooth.
3.9 Catching up on a number of ratings while sheltering-in-place. Scores recorded at the time but not detailed notes.
4.5 Possibly the nicest regular imperial stout I've ever had. Pours a viscous jet black with a small tan head. Aromas are huge in coffee, dark roasted malt and liqourice. Flavour is layered with heavy coffee, caramel, cacao, liqourice with a huge base of dark roasted malt. Aftertaste lingers nicely and allows for slow consumption. Wish I had a cellar full of these!
3.7 375 ml bottle. 2018 vintage. From boxbeers.dk. Black color with a tiny tan head. Molasses, coffee, dark fruits and vinous notes in the aroma. The flavor is roasted malt, molasses, sweetness, dark chocolate, coffee, bitterness and some spiciness. Rich. Strong and sweet maltiness makes this knock the doors of Barley Wines.
4.2 Lovely aroma with loads of caramel, melassis, chocolate, plum and coffee. Taste pretty much the same with thick, smooth and oily mouthfeel.
3.9 I’ve got a headache, time for some medicine: Jackie O’s Dark Apparition Russian Imperial Stout 10.5% Dark brown with a wispy rusty tan foam that was gone in a blink. It has an intense savory soy roasty aroma. The lush full body has loads of dark chocolate and toasted caramel notes, a pleasing nuttiness and maybe hints of smoke. Very smooth supper without any indications of the high ABV.
4.2 Pours black with a thick tan head that fades to a rim and coating. Aroma is pure molasses baby. With a sip... wow. Rich and velvety with chocolate malt, molasses and some coffee on the backend. Only mild booziness and carbonation. Moderately sticky. Quite sweet but for the aftertaste (coffee/booze). Incredible depth of flavor. Outstanding.
4.1 375ml bottle. Pours black with a dense creamy tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark chocolate, coffee. Taste is rich, sweet, molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, roast malts, Full bodied, thick and creamy. Excellent stout.
4.1 Snagged this 12.7 oz bottle while in NYC on a holiday in the late summer. Cooler weather, time to drink the imperial stout. And Jackie O's has always been good to me. Always. In a snifter it goes, black of course. Remaining is a thin ring of light tan foam. A fine smell, chocolate, coffee and strawberry jam. I take a sip, oh my goodness. Different for an imperial stout, dark fruit, grapes, dark chocolate, grain, malt, cereal and a toffee sweetness. Good indeed.
3.3 Bottle, early 2018. Molasses, dark fruit, plums, light nuts, light sweet chocolate. Thick, creamy, sweet, liqueur-like, nice flavour depth. Somewhat of a 'brown' imperial stout. Good though not as good as expected.
4.3 Pours heavily dark brown/black with a thick, off-white head. Nose is dark earthy, spice, vegetal flavours, heavily dark chocolate, smoke, liquorice, malt and sweet brown sugar. Palate is moderate but backed up by HUGE flavours. Silky smooth. Taste is deep brown sugar, cocoa, whisky, loads of liquorice, coffee and metallic hops. Very good.
3.7 Botella de 37,5 cl. Año de embotellado 2018. Color negro con espuma escasa y efímera, carbonatación baja. Aroma a café, chocolate, caramelo, regaliz. Sabor también a café, azúcar moreno, chocolate, caramelo, regaliz. Cuerpo medio,un poco dulce, suave, muy fácil de beber, la esperaba algo más compleja pero es una buena imperial stout.
3.8 375ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty. chocolately and slightly spicy, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, a marmite touch, hints of coffee, molasses, a touch of dark caramel, white coffee. Taste is slightly bitter, roasty, minimally ashy, chocolately dark malty, suble caramel sweetness, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, some coffee, a touch of almond, minimally warming, alcoholic finish. Relatively light body, oily-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, relatively lively, prickly carbonation.
4.1 1/3 brewdog. Bloody good. Salty, chewy, raisins, cocoa. Lovely stuff. Will need to consume more.
3.9 Pours deep mahogany-tinged black into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to mottle surface. Chocolate and vanilla aromas. Thick with hot vanilla, dark caramel, soy, licorice and chocolate upfront turning to mild charred, briny earth in the lasting finish.
3.8 09Jul2019 Intense dark malts, toasted bread, cacao, dark roast coffee. Hazy, very dark brown, small, creamy, off-white head. Light bitter. More dark roast malts, cacao, burnt toast, charred wood, charcoal, soft carbonation, full bodied. Nice. Draft at BrewDog Tower Hill, London.
4.1 On tap at L'Autre Oeil (Gatineau, QC). Opaque black body with a thin, beige creamy head. Robust, well balanced, malty aroma with bourbon-like, roasty, chocolate, and vanilla hints. Alcohol is discreet. Its strong malty taste carries woody, roasty, liquorice, and sweet notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Awesome!
3.5 Bottle. A- Roasty, licorice, molasses. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Roasty, leather, mild chocolate. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- A traditional no frills stout. Big beer but this would be great one a cold night with a book and a fire. Not one I would reach for regularly but good. Would like to try some variants.
