Jackie O's Oil Of Aphrodite

Jackie O's Oil Of Aphrodite

Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candy syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by Pacific Northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness. Lay this beer down for a while and share with friends and loved ones. After all, beer should be enjoyed and remembered; this is why quality and character are at the heart of every beer we produce.

3.9 (Bottle) - Pouring out of the bottle seems thick. Small tan head. Prominent aroma of soy sauce. Thick mouthfeel. Burnt bitterness in the flavor. Not a pronounced hop character. Perhaps some dark raisin and black currant. But, pretty dry overall. Bitterness lingers on the palate for quite some time.

3.6 Shared bottle at local tasting. Pours black, almost no head. Aroma of roasted malts,, dark chocolate and some booze. Taste is light sweet, booze and caramel,, roasted malts and dark bitter chocolate, dries up towards the end
3.8 Svart med lavt lys brunt skum. Lukter engelsk lakris, rosiner og mørke frukter. Fyldig. Mer salt lakris i smak, kaffe og mørk sjokolade. Middels lang.
4.0 Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to mottle surface. Nutty espresso aromas. Thick with sweet walnut, dark pit fruit and hot chocolate front to back. Lasting hot espresso and walnut finish.
4.2 Viscous, silky black pour. Tan head almost looks like nitro cream. Deep and rich, notes of chocolate, molasses, fig jam, hint of coffee, definite notes of toasted walnut, not overpowering but there. Never had that in a stout before, and it worked very well. Draft at Owens Ordinary in Rockville, MD.
3.8 375ml bottle from from Booze Bud 10% abv no date stamp ? Opaque black body, small dense tan head holds. Reasonably rich aroma; dark sugars/molasses, a distinct nuttiness is almost like raw walnut, almost Woody, sort of earthy, get hints of dark dried fruits. Oily texture, wouldn't say it's all that thick considering the booze in it, long finish to it, slightly astringency. Sort of dry fruit dominant - raisins, prunes, dates, burnt things, earthy undertones, roasted nuts; some like dark sugar sweetness upfront but becomes dry and savoury rather quickly, fairly bitter on the finish. Decent, not blown away though.
3.5 Pours murky deep brown with honeycomb head that doesn't hang around. Aroma of molasses translates to the upfront flavour. Mid palate brings aniseed, pepper and treacle. I can't say any walnut jumped out and made its presence felt, and the finish hints at a beer that was over-produced with a gluggy sugariness.
4.2 Incredibly savory considering the corn syrup addition. Inky black with a wisp of a ivory head. Nose is intensely nutty with a savory soy/marmite edge. Relatively thick on the palate with burnt brown sugar and a salty smoked bacon, Parma ham finish. Tasty but 1/3 is quite enough. 10%
3.6 Keg at BrewDog Leicester. Dark brown, translucent. A minimal swirl of off-white head. Dark chocolate malt, Vegemite, tapioca in the aroma. Taste starts with a massive nutty sweetness with corn syrup notes, balanced scattershot with astringent hops. Balaned finish with savoury flavours - bacon, Marmite - in the aftertaste. Thin body for the ABV, not helped by the weak carbonation. A decent if imperfect beer.
4.0 Keg, Brewdog Leicester. Very dark brown with a thin head. Burnt toffee with coffee and chocolate. Nutty fudge. Earthy hedgerow dark berries. Oily. Spicy. Hints of umami soy. Roast finish. Good impy.
3.8 Bottle. Dark brown, beige head. Nuts, maple, molasses, chocolate aromas. Sweet, nuts, caramel, chocolate, prunes, coconut, alcohol, bitter finish. Relatively thin body, oily.
3.6 Dark brown color. White head. Thin dry nose that the barrel dominates but with some Rolo character. Light body, very barrel forwRd with simple bitterness and good roastiness. Boozy finish. Hmm. Ok
4.5 Einzigartiges Flaschendesign. Riecht schwer, Kaffee und Röstbrot. Pechschwarzes Bier, cremige Schaumkrone. Exzellent
3.9 Poured from bottle thanks to Half Barrel staff, cheers mate. Dark black pour. Nose is roast through and through. Tastes of walnut which adds odd roasted nutty flavor, chocolate, malt, earth, maple. Thick and slick. Interesting stuff.
3.8 375 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with light head. Aromas of chocolate nougat, dates and toasted malts. Slick, rich flavors of same with an oily nuttiness. Just as described. Quite nice but overpriced.
3.6 Keg at BD AGM. It pours darkest red brown with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet, oily, vanilla, roasted malt, vanilla custard, creme brulee and milk chocolate. The taste is dry, bitter, rich roasted malt, tarry, earth, leather, dark chocolate, rocky road, tannin, burnt toast, chocolate ice cream, coffee cake and earth with a thick, vanilla chocolate finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth feel. Not bad.
4.1 Bottle from Craft Brewed shared. Pours a deep brown with a small bit of beige head that dissipates. Huge cacao nib, milk chocolate and toasted walnut on the nose. Smooth, thick and decadent on the palate. Great toasted nutty flavors coupled with a complete chocolate bomb of flavor. Lingering creamy, walnut without the bitterness. Milk chocolate and walnut cookie on the finish. Decadent!
4.1 On tap at protokoll Berlin. Black. Walnuts, maple syrup, some wood in the nose, mildly roasty, bitter, coconut, maple syrup taste. Full body, velvety texture, bitter, slightly nutty finish. Nice!
3.9 Black color, light brown head. Roasted malt nose, bread, caramel, burnt sugar, coffee. Roasted malt taste, sweet, coffee, bitter finish. Full body, soft carbonation. 8, 4, 8, 4, 15
3.5 Sample from bottle at Kultainen Apina. A dark brown beer with small beige head. Roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee. Full body, slick oily texture, flat carbonation. Disappointment. Bottle been open for too long?
3.7 Copenhagen 17/2 2019. 37,6 cl bottle from Køl Beer webshop (kolbeer.com). Drawing of Aphrodite lounging in lace with a little leaf of myrtle. Some Satyrs hanging around. Pours opaque, dark brown with small beige head. Dense. Settles as a thin layer of foam barely managing to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing. Aroma is intense, dark and sweet. Brown sugar, light roast, molasses, lightly nutty quality, dark chocolate providing bitterness and metallic alcohol. Moderately strong carbonation. Thick, oily, dense, tough texture. Velvety. Flavor has a strong and slightly sugary sweetness followed by a medium strong lightly spicy bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter-sweet with an boozy edge. Lingering. Good, strong and sweet imperial stout with a moderate bitter bite and a prominent alcoholic burn.
3.1 lidt kedelig stout i forhold til prisen men skam ganske ok smag karamel ristet malt chokolae
3.8 Aroma: Sweet fruits and nuts with chocolate and lactose. Flavour: Very sugary sweet with roasted malt and nuts. Aftertaste is sugar sweet with roasted malt and nuts. Colour: Dark brown with an offwhite head. From: Bottle @ Best of beers Aalborg Dec. 2018.
3.8 Nearly black with a tan head. Aroma is soy sauce, chocolate, coffee, a little bit of dark fruit, vanilla, molasses and light walnuts. Taste is medium sweet and heavy bitter. Palate is heavy, oily with soft carbonation.
4.2 My Bottom Line: Woodsy spiciness is quickly enveloped in rich caramel, fruity molasses and ground nuts in this luxurious dessert of an Imperial Stout. Further Personal Perceptions: -A healthy head of foam sticks to the top of the light-absorbing darkness. -The greenness is redolent of juniper needles. -The mouthfeel is sensusous. -Alcohol adds just enough warmth to the finish. -Bitterness builds slowly but surely. Bottle.
3.9 Draught at Ginger Man Boston, 11/21/18. Dark ebony pour shows light clarity and burgundy-maroon highlights on the edges. Tan head slowly recedes to a ring. A delightful mix of oily roast with tar, cocoa powder, vanilla and treacle definitely displaces any thoughts of this being a syrupy/fudgey sugar bomb. There's certainly plentiful caramel-like maltiness to it to balance the alcohol, roast and light vinousness, but the balance here seems great. Not quite wholly in the camp of English or American, though I suppose tending American with more caramel, milk chocolate and light fudge instead of leaning to more ash, char, roast and intense dark fruits. Nonetheless, it has its fair share of prune and raisin, as well as ash and very light char. Alcohol is well-concealed. In the mouth it's soft, lightly-to-moderately sweet for the style and full of big malt textures that display caramel, milk chocolate and bitter roasted barley. Nuttiness is there, though you'd never pick out actual walnut. Prune and raisin, with vanilla and more chocolate linger. Alcohol is well-concealed and the beer is well-attenuated for its size. Definitely a lot jam-packed in to this one and it's certainly rich and strong and much sweeter than an English style, but it's a far cry from the syrup and intense fudge of many American versions, as well. Bitter roast, prune, raisin, rich caramel sweetness and light, nuttiness lingers on nicely.
4.0 Bottle at The Trappist. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a faint treacle and walnut aroma. There is a near full-bodied dark molasses flavor with a hint of walnut and a dry treacle finish.
3.4 Bottle (thanks FatPhil). Very dark brown color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Roast, cocoa, dry, nutty, alcohol, dark chocolate in aroma and in taste. Heavy body. Alcohol is there. Drinkable brew.
3.9 375 ml bottle from Two Angels Liquors. Black appearance with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, nutty malts, mild coffee notes, light roast, light fruity esters and a touch of hops. Similar flavor, rich, dark and malty with moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Medium to full body with a smooth and pleasant finish. Nice.
