3.7 Bottle. Reddish amber color, slightly pinkish foam. Aroma: sweet and sour, cherry, wood, malt, dried fruits. Taste is sour-sweet, wine, cherry, caramel, jam, oak, tart.
3.9 Bottle from LCBO. I'm blown away by the Jacobins Kriek. It's hardly what I'd call excessively sweet, it has a beautiful real Kriek Cherry flavor and a very good sour-sweet Lambic balance. Oh wow it gets shit ratings too! I have to say this is bemusing. Maybe Jacobins made a good batch that wasn't syrupy for a change. I cannot comment on past bottlings as this is my virginal attempt. I will buy more. Good stuff, Jacobins.
3.1 Bottle at home, sjogro 5K tasting. Hazy reddish with white head. Sweet kriekensyrup and sugar in sour berry juice with prunes and raisans, strawberries. Big sweet and sharp sour pinching through. Medium body and soft carbonation.
3.5 Bottle shared thanks to Puttetjes. Clear ruby with light pink head. Light lactic, balsamico, sweet/sour cherries, soft malts and sugar, light hay and yoghurt. Over medium sweet and sour with light bitterness. Medium bodied. You can tell it’s very sour which they toned down with lots of sugar. I actually quite like it.
3.2 From the 330 ml. bottle. The pour is a maroon-amber tone with little to no head. The aroma emits a definite tart, sour raspberry fruitiness with a milder malt and yeast backdrop. The body is in the medium range which is heavier than I imagined. The taste is nice and sour but not expressively so with plenty of raspberry spritzing going on. Effervescent.
Geur: zoete krieken, kers, poepkes snoep, licht zuur. Smaak: zoetzuur met kersen, lichtjes amandel. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: zoetzuur, kers. Ideaal als instap/overgang naar zure kriek.
2.8 F: huge, pink, good, retention. C: dark red, almost clear. A: cherries, red fruits, cherries candy. T: sweet cherries, candy, bit fruity, lemon sour, bit “woody”, hint of caramel, very simple taste, too sweet, light body, medium carbonation, average as well, sample @ Winters Bier Festival 2017 in Waregem.
3.9 Tap at Cap Hop. Pours sort of cherry color with a transient near-white head. Aroma is tart cherry. Med body. Flavor is tart cherry. Really tart, but there’s some fruit sugar or something moderating it a little bit. Mouth smacking. Much better than many so-called krieks. Delicious. Recommended.
3.5 I am not normally a fan of sour beers, but this one, according to the label, is a "Spontaneously Fermented Ale Blended with Fresh Cherry Juice" and is excellent. It is a bit reminiscent of vinegar at first, but then I started to taste the tart cherries and really liked it. I would definitely buy this again.
3.7 On tap at Capitol Hop Shop. Pours reddish brown with a modest beige head and a cherry aroma. There is a hearty sour brown flavor with a cherry finish.
3.0 Bought one to sample from the local liquor store, a good Lambic once in a while makes for a good switchup from my normal beer choices. Beer has a sour scent of cherries, not overpowering but is definite. Taste is not very sweet, and is very much sour cherries, no other tastes come out. Very well balanced but very tart, with minimal carbonation. Finishes dry with a cherry aftertaste. The label says that it is made with cherry juice, but not a mention of fresh cherries-- either way it is not the best Lambic beer I have had, nor is it a great example of a sour ale either. If you like Kriek Lambic to be more sour, give this a try.
2.8 Bottle->tulip. Dark red with small ecru head. A: sour, slightly rotten cherries, dark fruit, yeast. T: a tart but artificial cherry taste permeates; no natural funk here, just an almost medicinal cherry presence.
3.4 Ruby with small pink head. Slightly sour fruity aroma with cherry notes. Medium sour and enough sweet cherry taste with touch of bitterness on the background.
3.4 Pours a cranberry reddish brown with an off white ring. Very faint aroma of tart fruit. Nice lightly tart sour cherry taste. Flavors don't linger for long. Leaves just a tingle on the tongue but not much lasting aftertaste. Fairly enjoyable but nothing special.
2.9 Bottle from Gulating Brennåsen. Clear, deep red body with a big, creamy pale pink head. Aroma is cherry souse with hint of almond and some acidity. Flavor is basically sweet and sour cherry with hint of almond as in aroma. Medium body and cherry aftertaste. It’s a bit strange in flavor as it has some kind of balance between the sweet and slightly artificial at one side and woody acidic authentic flavor at the other side, still it doesn't feel like balanced at all. It’s just sweet and sour – actually too sweet by the end of the bottle.
2.8 Aroma is sweet, artificial cherry with a slightly "brew day" aroma, while the taste is tart cherry and little else. It’s not horrible, but it’s not good either.
3.5 Bottle from De Caigny. Dirty hazy reddish with a generous head. Notes of cherry juice, light tartness, some sweet syrupy notes and minimal funk.
3.7 11.2oz bottle pours reddish pink clear with pink head that disappeared very quickly. Aroma is cherries and cherry stones, maybe a touch of grains-of-paradise or nutmeg. Flavor is fruity cherry, tart and a woody-sourish bite. Not sweet, however fruity and tangy. Finish leaves quickly and is not sticky or lingering, allowing for an immediate follow up sip. Very nice kriek.
3.8 330ml bottle from Vanuxeem, as ’Kriek des Jacobins’. Pours deep red, small white head. Aroma of sharp kriek cherries, lambic funk. Taste is sharp, zippy with a distinctive cherry sweetness and some vinous red wine notes reminiscent of cuvee des jacobins. Not bad.
3.6 330ml bottle. Pours ruby-amber with negligible head. Yeasty cranberry aroma. Dried cherry flavors, more tart than sour. Dry, tart finish.
3.4 Best before 25 maggio 2017, aperta il 24 maggio 2017. Ben carbonata, corpo leggero, oleosa.
3.6 From old tasting notes. Deep ruby red color. Small white head. Intensely sweet cherry aroma. Bittersweet cherry fruit flavor has a tangy, yeasty flavor. Nicely done.
2.4 Overly sweet Kriek style beer drunk from 33cl bottle bought from beer discovery club.
3.5 (bottle) clear ruby-amber colour with a frothy off-pink head. aroma of peanuts, cherry juice and chlorine, with some notes of sugar icing and acetone. flavour is mostly cherry juice and acetone, with a light hint of bran flakes, walnuts and a semi-tart finish. medium-bodied with lively carbonation.
3.4 At Zythos 2017. Pours clear dark ruby. Aroma is soft cherry, slightly rusty, rather soft, some barrel. Body is medium, sweet, only a little sour. Rather artificial cherry flavours. Palate is sweet cherries. Good.
3.6 Sampled @ Zythos Bier Festival 2017. Klare orange braune Farbe. Geruch nach Kirschen, säuerlich holzig. Geschmack säuerlich fruchtig, Kirschen, trocken holzig.
3.4 Bottle. Clear ruby color with white head. Aroma is cherry skin, tart. Taste is cherries, tart, a bit sweet cherries. Medium carbonation.
3.5 Bottle 0,33L. Clear, dark red color with thin, off-white (slightly red), frothy head, that dissipate fast. Aroma of cherries and red wine. Taste is sour and fruity - cherries of course with a tart finish, that leave some almond notes in the aftertaste. Easy to drink with just right amount of sourness for me. Very refreshing!
