Jacobsen Abbey Ale

Jacobsen Abbey Ale

2.6 70cl bottle of Carlsberg Abbey Ale from 1997, poured a deep brown with no head and an aroma of musty old barrels. There’s a bit of demerara in there and a touch of orange and prune, plus rotting leafmould. The body is complex - earthy, faintly sweet, and notes of prune and treacle, but also dry and musty, like homebrew with old dead yeast stirred up (the sediment was in fact thoroughly stuck to the bottom of the bottle!). Interesting stuff, but it hasn’t aged as well as I’d hoped.
3.1 Bottle @ fælledparken. One finger foam. Haze light brown. Malty notes. Short dry sweet finish. The Bells are not ringing.
3.8 Bottle in Fælledparken with Japalo. White foam. Dark amber hazy color. Nice brew.
3.3 75 cl bottle at home in Skövde. Clear brown beer with a small beige head. Malty and caramell aroma and similar flavour.
3.4 Bottle. Nice amber/copper color with a small but lasting head. Fruity candy aroma, malty, toffee, yeast notes, banana, grapes, figs, some pear and apples. Malty fruity flavor, yeasty, spicy, some alcohol, banana notes, licorice, grapes and apples. A bit thinbodied and maybe not the typical Dubbel, but still pleasant.
2.9 Clear brown color with fine sized off-white head. Caramel aroma. Flavor of caramel.
3.2 Dark, redish brown with a small tan head. Fruity and malty notes. Malt, fruit and sweetness. Medium to full body with a sweetish finish.
2.3 0.75 bottle. Aroma of coffee and different kind of fruits, noticeable blackcurrant scent. Hazy light brown liquid with small, creamy head of great retention. Mostly bitter taste with a solid doze of saltiness and a bit of umami. Medium body and a slightly sticky texture with rather soft carbonation. Medium length, bitter and very dry finish. Too salty in my view, it lacks the balance between different ingredients what makes it slightly irritant for the tongue.
3.7 Fine head, deep golden - almost brown. nose with caramel and figs. fruity. Medium to fullbody and some length. Taste is again caramel, figs and some fruityness. not so complex, but harmonic.
2.9 Served from bottle which been in my fridge for 5 weeks. Very surprising aroma with odours of different kinds of fruits and berries. Head disappears fast, sweet taste with none of the fruits smelled, kind of medium..
3.7 Bottle. Old Semper Ardens Abbey Ale (expiry date six months ago). Pours hazy brown with beige lasting head. Aroma is malt, yeast, licorice, burnt caramel and figs. Taste is round and dry with a bit of sweetness. Palate is filling with lively carbonation. Easy to enjoy.
3.3 Gekocht als Carlsberg Abbey Ale. Roodbruin bier met dunne cremekleurige schuimkraag. Smaak caramel met moutige tonen.
3.2 Bottle 0,75 l, It pours dark brown with off white head.... aroma is caramel, dark fruits, roasted malt.... the flavor is kind of vinous, water, bitter....
3.3 0,75 l. bottle from the supermarket labeled as Jacobsen Abbey Ale but the beer is the same. Poured in to a trappist glass. Dark red-brown colour. Initially huge, but quickly diminishing head. Vineous aroma with chocolate and marcipan. Chocolate and caramel in a vineous taste with hints of banana. Same goes wwith the finish. Medium- to fullbodied, alcohol stays hidden. A decent beer for a bargain.
2.4 Mahogany body, white head. Aroma of yeasty fruits. Lots of raisins. Some chocolate in background. Poor version of dubbel.
2.5 660 ml bottle. BB 11.01.2011. From København, Denmark. Clear mahogany colour with small off-white head. Slightly artifical aroma of caramel, toffee, chocolate and sweet fruits. Flavour is unfortunately letting us down. This could be christmas edition of Carlsberg Lager. Sugar sweetness, some Dunkel notes but unfortunately that’s it. Some alcohol sweetness but otherwise alcohol is quite well hidden. But much else on the positive side.
3.2 Pours chestnut brown with a nice light brown head. Nose has a flowery yeast standing out up front with a clear belgian impression., candy, brown sugar, malts are sweet and a bit nutty, sweet berries too. Taste is less on the yeast, malts are more clear with caramel and nuts, yeast is very light and adds a nice touch, works very well. I thought less of this beer before I had it, and was pleasantly surprised.
3.0 Flaske 66 cl. Amber eller rav farvet hælde med et lille off white hoved. Aromaen og smagen er sød i retning af kandis. Noter af frugt og krydderi afløses af en afbalanceret restbitterhed.
3.1 Clear red brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet caramel, malty, fruity, very yeasty and spicy. Flavor is quite sweet. Smooth and warming alcoholic finish. 311210

3.6 17.09.2011. 0,75l Bottle. Brown colour roma is malty with notesof caramel, brown sugar and malt sweetness. Its not too sweet, its more like pure sweet malt. Soft aftertaste. Very good beer. Old rating: 28.03.2007. 0,7l Bottle. Labeled Carlsberg Semper Ardens Abbey Ale. Brown colour. Malty and tastefull aroma with nice bitterness. This is the one that I have given the highest rating of the beers from Semper Ardens series.

4.0 A real winner out of the Carlsberg stable--a welcome taste for a guy who just moved from Belgium to Denmark. A very well-balanced dubbel, with the right mix of spice, caramel, sweetness and savouriness. Am trying to think of a comparable Belgian--perhaps an Affligem bruin?
3.3 66 cl bottle, pours very dark amber with a minor head, aroma is spices and malt, taste is spicy and malt with a hint of yeast, ok finish, decent beer but nothing special.
2.8 Bottle at ChrisO Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia tasting. Deep amber colour, bit of brown in there too. Lots of malt. Some oxidisation. OK, just.
2.8 22nd May 2010. ChrisOs ’Blue Ridge Mountains Of Virginia’ tasting! Clear red brown beer. Little off white head. Light dry semi palate. Sweet creamy malt. Lactose sweetness. Malty sweet beer. That’s all folks!
2.3 Bottle. Cloudy light brown colour and beige head. Aroma and taste of caramel, chocolate and earthy notes. Appearance like muddy waters and way lighter taste than the label claims in the beer.
