James Squire Stow Away IPA

James Squire Stow Away IPA

James Squire India Pale Ale is made with only Munich and pale malt, so it brews to a rich, golden colour, with a robust, malty character. Its earthy floral aromas are a result of dry-hopping with English Fuggles hops added in generous amounts directly to the maturation tanks. This India Pale Ale is handcrafted in the traditional style. It is higher in alcohol, effervescent and has a characteristic highly hopped bitterness with a crisp finish on the palate.

3.1 Nice beer,a lighter version of IPA, lacking hops or aroma could be better priced.
3.4 345ml bottle. Poured a deep, clear copper-amber with a tall, rocky and mostly lasting beige head leaving a soapy lace. Robust burnt caramel, toasted bread and toffee-styled malts with marmalade, tangerine and grapefruit hops to balance. Medium body with a dry, spritzy carbonation and a lengthy earthy, bittersweet finish.
3.2 Pours a red amber with a foamy beige head. Sweet aroma of malts, some stone fruit, floral and a hint of citrus. Initial bitterness punch, sweet malt flavour and a mellow hoppy finish. Nice malt complexity. Clearly made to be drinkable and in large batches, but definitely above average.
2.8 6 pack from dan murphys, poured into lager glass, nice amber colour, good lacing around the glass, more a entry level ipa but I still enjoyed it
2.5 345 mil bottle resin hops in the aroma amber in colour but taste needs more hops ok not great
2.9 A reasonable IPA (hops not complex enough), nice copper colour with reasonable head retention.
3.5 A very drinkable Indian Pale ale. Was very sceptical trying this with many people giving it a bad wrap, but for someone who like a good indian pale this is not a bad beer. Great aroma and body... Nice caramel flavours too which was a pleasant surprise..
2.0 A drinkable beer but not a great beer in itself and as an ipa. Slightly floral on the nose otherwise a bit of a generic pale ale.
3.3 Aroma - Floral, not a lot else. Appearance - Rusted colour, dark copper. Taste - Good balance, not as complex as some other IPAs but some nice citrus notes. Bitter aftertaste and very cleansing on the palate. Would drink this one again, but not eager to drink it again soon.
3.3 Draught as part of a tasting paddle, at James Squire Brewhouse at the Portland Hotel, Melbourne, on July 30, 2013. Clear copper color, off-white head. Malty, hoppy, bitter, citrus taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Sweet, bitter aftertaste. Sweet, malty, earthy, hoppy scent.
2.9 Bottle at Jacksons on George Clear dark golden with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of caramel and fruity. Flavors the same, sweet Decent, but this is no West Coast IPA.
3.2 Poured a clear golden amber with a one-finger white foamy head that retained reasonably well and laced OK. Moderate carbonation with small bubbles forming trails. Aroma of decent floral hops. Taste a bit of malt but predominantly nice moderate hops bitterness. Medium body. Crisp finish. Not as over-hopped as other IPAs but still quite nice.
3.2 Strong floral aroma on this. Pours a golden colour. The hops come through with a nice bitterness and full mouth feeling.
2.3 Not as complex as a other IPA’s. No real aroma, slight citrus notes with a fresh grassy taste. Very easy drinking IPA
3.2 345ml bottle. Deep golden amber colour, thin off-white foam head and aroma of caramel, orange, toffee. Taste is sweet malt caramel with a floral orangey hop tangy bitterness. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, medium carbonation, some residual sweetness through to a dry bitter finish. OK IPA.
3.0 Light orange amber color, very thin, off white head. Collar at best. Some spotty lacing. Earthy nose. orange and floral hops. Toffee and bread backbone. Meh nose. Taste is orange marmalade, earthy pine and grapefruit, toffee, somewhat stale bread. Decent but brief hop bite. Hop bit is more mid palate really. Short and brief. Dry grapefruit finish with a touch of metal . Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Workable. Decent English style IPA.
3.3 Tap at Portland hotel, Melbourne. Slightly dark amber colour. Thin head. Toffee taste, not overly hoppy/bitter like most IPA´a, which I like.
2.5 It’s quite simple - this beer lacks the complexity of a good IPA. there’s something almost plastic about the aroma, which is mainly malty biscuity-ness with some burnt caramel. There are more hops on the palate and a reasonable amount of malt, but this beer is just a pass when rated against other IPAs.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a golden colour with next to no head Aroma, is very weak but still pleasant. Flavour, this beer delivers mainly malt flavours of caramel-toffee but also has a grapefruit bitterness and a hoppy pine flavour. Overall- this beer is decent, but if you can try and find their brewhouse version on tap, much better then this.
2.6 Nose doesn’t give much away. A bit cloying. Flavour is malty and sweet but has more of the cloying quality of the nose. Finish is sticky and astringent and all told this is sadly what you might expect from an unimaginative macro attempting a mass market ipa.
2.5 Tap at Llama Bar. Very tame IPA compared to what I’ve had. Deep gold pour with bugger all head. Aromas are really soft...some fruity hops? Taste isnt is consistent just an over malty with a dry crisp finish. Wouldnt come back for more thats for sure
3.2 Deep gold pour, very little head. Fruity hops aroma, taste is malty, caramel, good lingering bitterness, crisp finish. Good drinking,
2.8 Aroma is bitter hops and could use a bit more citrus aroma. Flavour is refreshing hops, but a bit harsher than I would like
2.9 330mL Bottle, I get the light spice/foral aroma from the fuggle as well as a slight toffee malt. Taste is dominated by the toffee malt and only has hint of spice from the hops. Not sure how they can call this an IPA.
3.6 345ml bottle. Lovely earthy floral aromas. Great balance of malt and hops. One of my favourite James Squire beers.
3.2 345 ml bottle. Poured a deep copper with a thin beige head that lasted well. Compared with other IPAs I’ve had recently, this one is quite tame. The aroma is mainly soft fruit. There’s quite a zing at the front of the mouth, but the bitterness is rather muted. The palate however is long and it finishes crisp and dry. Pretty good overall.
4.0 one of my regular session beers, pours a nice copper color with a good finger of off white head.smells of earthy hops and malt.tastes like it smells, earthy hops and biscuity/toffe malt with a slight mineral bitterness. it tastes like an ipa should , and is very drinkable.
3.2 Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel. Taste is also malt, caramel with hints of straw. Not bad
3.4 Bottle 33 cl, local supermarket in Melbourne. Pours clear dakr amber with a great creamy beige head leaving lace. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity, bready, bisquity. Flavor is malty, fruity, floral, a bit piny a bit sweet and bitter. Finishes with a great longlived bitter and dryish aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle. Pours deep orange light amber with well laced off white decent head. Grassy hop and floral aromas, toffee Medium body, decent bitterness, nutty caramel, burnt toffee, grassy hop flavour, pitted fruits. Bitter finish, hops and toasty malts lingering. not bad. Good EIPA.
