3.8 75cl, new exclusive American collab. brew Anno 2012, with coffee and chili peppers, from Mikkeller Webshop, complex Stout, roasted/malty and slightly smoked/spicy, yet not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, yet expensive!
3.9 Poured dark black from the bottle with aromas of fresh pressed coffee, grounds, chocolate, roast, light bourbon and some light pepper. Flavors followed suit a mixture of all the aromas a light boozy aftertaste but a solid beer none the less.
3.8 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light dry coffee, black chocolate and some very subtle peppers notes. Taste is also a mix of peppers, dry coffee with some black chocolates and some dry coffee notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very enjoyable stout with plenty of flavours that are well balanced. I think a bit more pronounced peppers notes would have made things more interesting.
4.0 From notes. Poured black, with a beige head. Coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of charcoal and ash in the aroma. Dense body, with a lasting bitter finish.
3.8 Pour from a bottle this past new years eve. I really enjoyed the Weasel Rodeo when it was fresh. Great coffee aroma, taste of heavy roast and chocolate, followed by a great burn in the throat as it goes down. The heat was definitely not over powering or anything, which was great. This last bottle had definitely fallen off in a big way. It kind of got muddled down into a chocolately mess, but the burn was still there which was nice. Didn’t score this lower because it was a great beer fresh, just not one that should have been aged.
1.5 Aroma was of coffee - and potentially an embalmed weasel which I half expected to find in a bottle of this size. Big, bold flavors of coffee, malts and a kick of spice and peppers going down. However, I really didn’t enjoy this one for some reason (especially for the price which was over $20 CAD for one bottle). Actually filmed a live (overly dramatic) review for YouTube - Just search "riding the weasel rodeo" my channel is BobRyder.
3.7 Coffee and chili pepper nose. Big, rich and roasted. Chili peppers coat your tongue and cut the sweetness. Coffee comes through nicely. Interesting, and it works.
4.1 Sweet coffee aroma. Very dark with no light getting through and no head. Carbonation was there but as an afterthought. This added to the smoothness of the beer. Creamy texture with higher than average weight. Predominant coffee flavors with roasted and smoked malts. The chipotle was not very noticeable. Great blend and a good collaboration.
3.8 Bottle. Almost black with small dark brown. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, little vegetable and a little chili. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee medium sweet, liquorice, hop, chili, little vegetable and medium bitter.
4.2 750mL bottle, pours jet black with a small tan / light brown head. Aroma brings out complex coffee notes, chipotle peppers, and a touch of smoke. Flavour is intensely complex and rich, full of rich, complex coffee, moderate chipotle, and a little smoke. Silky, oily mouthfeel, dominated by the coffee and only accentuated by the chipotle a little bit. Wonderful blend of flavours, and a soft, silky palate. Wonderful.
3.7 Froma 750ml brown bottle. Jet black pour, thin layer of beige head on top but not much else. Nose has rich chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is same with thick dark chocolate malts and medium roasted malts and dark coffee. Pepper heat comes out in the throat. Medium to full bodied, mild carbonation. A nice spicy Impy.
3.9 Bottle - Crazy espresso. Jet black no head. Espresso all the way through with a chilli finish. Nice chilli beer, but the value isn’t there.
4.2 Bottle. Black with foamy dark brown head. Aroma and taste is smokey, chipotle, roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee grinds and vanilla. Creamy and full, gives a bit of a roasted impression. Nice
4.2 Imperial Stout rating #50, yay! Bottle, 2012 Pours almost black with some red/brown hues and a small brown ring clinging to the glass. Aroma has coffee, heavily roasted (almost burnt) malt, chili, subtle smoke, some dark fruit note and slight cocoa powder. Taste has tobacco/cigar, almost burnt malt, dry chocolate, coffee and smokey chili. Full bodied, low carbonation, smooth mouth feel. After taste is chocolatey dry with a lingering heat that grows with each sip. Well balanced chili stout, really like the dryness.
4.9 Pours pitch black with a small tan ring. Smells strongly of coffee. Taste is coffee, coffee, and coffee with a little bit of smoke. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and very soft mouth-carbonation, Jester King/Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo finishes with a subtle booziness.
2.9 750mL thanks to djd07. Pours fully ink, opaque, but no carbonation to speak of. Small nucleation points. Nose is getting to that really unfortunate Danish stout nose of tar, oxidation/red apple, soy sauce. Savory but much too salty. Taste brings some modest chili pepper heat that is nice but there is no palate to create this beer. Instead the mouthfeel is like dead silt, chalky yeast in suspension with tar and soy sauce. Doesn’t come together as a beer unfortunately. Disappointing.
4.2 Bottle, shared by Ian. Lustrous very dark brown pour with a thick brown head. Rich coffee aroma with underlying burn malts and vegetal undertones. Coffee-centered palate, rich and natural without becoming acrid, with some saliva-inducing fruit acids, a hint of meaty smoke, and a perfect chilli heat waaayyy at the back of the throat that is a welcome finish. So drinkable and delicious.
4.3 Had a taster at the phillybeerscene bottle share. My god. Between this, Mexas Ranger, Mexican Cake and Hunapu, we had some great chili pepper beers! Aroma is mocha coffee with sweet vanilla and chili notes. Pours blackety black black with no head and faint beige lacing. Taste is incredible with a dark chocolate blending nicely with coffee and chillies. A little smokier tasting which made for a great chipotle finish. I’m actually not sure if I’d like the bourbon version but time will tell.
3.9 Thanks to Riemer for this. Man this thing is a monster. Pours ink black with a brown top. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts and hot peppers. Taste is roasted malts, coffee notes and then on comes the chili peppers. Hotness just grows on you as you drink more. Glad I shared this one as I may have imploded with a bottle to myself.
4.0 Black of color with a small brown head. An aroma of liqurice, soy sauce, roasted malt, bitter, weak burnt, brandy, spice and weak leather. A flavor of roasted malt, liqurice, spice, chili, leather, brandy and a nice oily texture.
3.6 Bottle shared with the Ottawa crew. Black with foamy but thin dark brown head. Smokey, some chipotle, roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee grinds, bit of vanilla to balane the bitterness. Mild carbonation, moderate+ body, vanilla, oak, some chilli, coats the palate.
4.2 750mL bottle. Poured very deep brown with an almost equally dark head. The aroma picked up sweet, roasty, slightly nutty coffee joined by sweeter chocolates and vanilla.. warm, toasted peppers, rye, and smoked malt around.. a lot going on, and it worked for me. The flavor found milkier chocolates and earthy/nutty coffee at the core.. smoked malts, building peppery warmth, and greener coffee on the edges.. chipotle heat really built up by the finish, and was joined by greener coffee and alcohol warmth.. very tasty! Heavier-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. a touch sharp and salty on the palate, but otherwise well-balance.. excellent stuff!
3.5 roasted sweet aroma, black, brown foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, soft carbonation, chilli pepper, strong finish.
4.1 A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, nice complex grassy coffee with smooth pepper notes, and light vanilla notes. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with coffee grinds, hot chilies, light smokeyness, bitter and complex.
3.8 Bottle. Pours black with an off-white head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, grains and malt. Flavor is sweet and malty with some warming alcohol, soya sauce and caramel. medium to full body, average carbonation.
3.9 Black color with brown head. Nice earthy coffee, dark fruit, sugary, dark chocolate aromas. full body, smooth mouthfeel. fruity earthy coffee, smokey, dry chocolate flavors with roasted peppers, brown sugar----warming finish----very good.
3.8 Bottle at home fro ØlKonsortiet. Pours pitch black with a tiny, mocca head. Huge coffee aroma, and just a hint of alcohol. Lots of roasted malts of course. Full body, coffee flavour, malty finishes with a hint of warmth from the chili.
3.9 Bottle @ Avery, shared by Steve_0 at Avery sour release party. Pours a black appearance with a dark brown head. Burnt, chocolate malty, a touch smoky, big coffee, light caramel aroma. Fairly earthy, roasty coffee, chocolate, mild vanilla flavor with just a touch of peppers on the finish. Tasty stuff.
3.9 Bottle at the Avery Barrel Release. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small tan head that quickly dissipated. Huge coffee, dark chocolate, light peppers, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, and toffee in the aroma. Taste is deep espresso, chocolate, light vanilla, green peppers, light maple, oak, dark fruits, and nice heat on the backend. Syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice stuff.
4.2 Poured from bottle on 04/26/13. Pour dark brown with reddish thin head. Aroma of roasted chocolate and mild peppers. Initial tastes of the chocolate come through when it is cold and the peppers become more present on the finish as it warms in temperature. Great beer!
