Jolly Pumpkin La Roja Du Kriek

Jolly Pumpkin La Roja Du Kriek

La Roja is brewed in the Flanders tradition. We blend this beer from oak barrels where the beer has been aging for 12 months or longer. We’ve added 10 lbs. of cherries and let this beer mature for additional time in the firkin. Truly an ale of grace and distinction. La Roja is a beer that we offer year round. Roja du Kriek is a beer that we made special for you at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Mahalo Plenty.

4.3 Bottle from Dusty’s Cellars in Okemos. OMG. So thrilled to be trying this one. Murky red-brown pour, not so dark. Funk, kriek, and wood on the aroma. Fantastic house character as always. Basic tart la roja base comes on first but then later you get this blast of all of this wood and these cherry tannins. Little bit of cocoa powder. Abundant carbonation is not overdone. It’s really super. Oh wow. Just kind of mouth-smackingly delicious. I think it’s all about the JP terroir. If you like that...this beer is heaven. My guess is that this is a point or two better than the regular Roja, though I’m not going to change my 4.3 rating there for now.
