Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam

Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam

The fourth in our Bam Farmhouse series, and perhaps our most adventurous; a traditional farmhouse style hefeweizen.

Weizen Bam seamlessly blends traditional German style hefeweizen yeast with our own local wild and sour cultures, for a melange of the most flavorful sort.

Ruddy golden, with yeast driven esters of banana, spicy clove, and nutmeg all wrapped up with a generous dose of good-natured rapscallion delight.

4.1 Shared bottle @OlutSBD Club de cata. Pours pale yellow with persistant white head. Aroma of pineapple and vanilla. Refreshing sour.
3.7 Bottle, shared with Parksy and Dave. Hazy bright yellow, effervescent white head. Lean and lemony with a firm lactic sourness. More sour than funky, but still very enjoyable.
2.3 A nice though odd hefe, soured so it has a Brett and banana flavor profile. Interesting.
3.9 Kicsi, nem túl tartós hab, világos narancs szín. Gabonás, búzás, saison-os illat, tölgyfahordós beütéssel. Összeérett, savanykás, fűszeres, tölgyfahordós ízvilág. Könnyed, frissítő, közepesen szénsavas, alig keserű. Szuper egyensúllyal és arányokkal megáldott, frissítő, finom sör.
3.7 Bottle: Hazy, pale straw, with medium head and a good lace. The nose is funky, meaty and rubbery. There’s a cheesy, creamy note. Not, fruit, malt or hops. The palate is very dry and sour. High acidity. It’s fresh. Maybe a little funky. Medium length. Very sour example of a Farmhouse beer. The palate is better than the nose.
3.6 Light hazed golden with a chalky haze and white head. Light lemony funk aroma and taste. Quite refreshing. Notes: Boulder City Beer Fest '17
3.5 (bottle) cloudy yellow colour with a small white head; aroma of funk, lilies, fruit; clean, tart flavour with a long, medium sour finish
3.4 4 years aged for no real reason. Clear pale golden with a large rocky white head. Earthy woody funky sour nose with wheaty lactic slightly fruity nuances throughout that’s mostly earthy and rustic and funky. High carbonation on the body with some mild wheat and pale Belgian malty flavors with a gentle funky estery tone with gentle orange and gentle pepper. A little funky bit bright and clean.
3.8 On tap at Hops & Pie. Cloudy, unfiltered and yellow appearance with an off-white head. Aroma of barnyard funk, earthy yeast, mild herbal spice and light banana/esters. Similar flavor, light, crisp and refreshing with a dry finish. Good,
3.5 Crabapple and oak nose. Clear yellow, headless. Sour apple, oak, lemon finish. Medium body, easy carbonation. Great amount of sourness, little wheat character, fairly simple.
3.8 Bottle, shared by Phil - thanks! Pale yellow-orange with small white head. Extremely fresh, citric and farmhouse-y, unripe apricot aroma, wheaty. Light sourness, acidity and stickiness - extremely well balanced. Crisp, lightish body, even somewhat watery on the palate. Lovely brew!
3.8 660ml bottle. Thank you, FatPhil! Golden yellow colour. Thin line of white froth around the glass. Slight barnyard, slight acidity, maybe hints of vinegar, hints of citrusses in the aroma. Sour beginning. Notes of white wine and citrusses. Flowery in the middle like a good farmhouse. Slight barnyard. Sour, citrussy refreshing finish. Well balanced, rather light bodied, averagely carbonated, interesting and good sour ale. I like the farmhouse touch here. The balance between the barnyard and acidity is really good.
3.5 Notes from summer. Pours a cloudy golden color. Aroma and taste are citrus funk and spices.
3.5 750ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Hazy orange color. Tiny size, white head, stays as a ring. Sour, acidic, fruity, leather, poop in aroma. Fruity, acidic, earthy, lemon in taste. Fruity lemon in aftertaste. Acidic mouthfeel. Light body. Quite solid brew.
3.3 660ml bottle (Alus Celle, Riga) Simple aroma, bit of light wheatiness, pleasantly citrussy. Taste has a lovely lemony sharpness, soft pale grain support, hint of yeast. Very nice metallic sharp bitter bite, finish is tingly. Simple, but effective. Very drinkable. Want a bit more from it, though, it’s almost throwaway. The metallic long finish is very nice, that’s the bite I like.
3.4 Bottle shared by Phil, thanks! Hazy yellow pour, almost no head. Nose is sweet, wheaty, citrus hints. Flavor is tart, lemons, less wheaty than the nose. Tart and lemony finish. Fairly balanced and pretty smooth.
3.4 Bottle (thanks fatphil). Pours golden. Aroma is funky, sour, lemon, bretty. Flavor is sour, citrus, lemon, acidic, funk, good. Overall: good.
4.3 Appearance: slightly hazy pale straw with two fat fingers of fluffy white head, good retention and chunky lacing. (4/5) Aroma: tart citrus, banana, wheat, wood, barnyard funk. (9/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate-low bitter, moderate-high tart, light funk. (9/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, mildly warming spicy and funky finish. (4/5) Typical JP head that threatens to explode completely out of control unless poured ridiculously gently - which I did. I’m on to you, JP! A lovely tart saison/wild/sour/whatever, with nicely balanced tones of citrus, wheat, wood, and barnyard funk. (17/20)
3.8 Pours a golden mahogany brown with fluffy head. Aromas of fruit, funk, and some woody notes. Flavors of tart fruit, some woody character and some brett like finish.
3.8 Gold with a haze. Sour flavor. Cant tell it’s wheat. Think old books and wood. Very bitter, sour and delicious.
3.9 750ml bottle from Alesela, shared with Jeevan. Pours with a head. Aromas of sharp lemon and sherbet, light funk, clove. Taste is tart, lemon sherbet. Dry finish. Very nice.
3.0 Backlog. Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 20.05.13. Unclear pale golden. Sour lime and some lambic in aroma and taste. Average mouthfeel. A decent summer beer.
3.3 Served from bomber. Large 4 figure foam head that very slowly dissappears. Strong amount of carbonation. Smell of lemons and straw. Taste dominated by slightly tart lemons. yeasty and chewy mouth feel. Overall a very drinkable weizz beer.
3.1 Tap at sb. Pours a cloudy medium gold with a loose white head. Moderately forward nose, showing some lemons and a bit of wet grass. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Lemony, grassy mid palate. Mild finish.
3.7 on tap at Eulogy in Philadelphia; gold color; citrusy Belgian yeast aroma; mild sour fruit flavor; lots of citrus and Belgian yeast funk
3.0 Bottle 750ml. Pours blond with low to no white head. No lacing. Aroma is of faint clementines. Taste is of sourness, old rags, acid. Palate: Light-medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Ok. Honestly not much to say here. Boring for sure.
3.2 Pours a lightly hazy golden with a white rim on top that leaves low lacing. Nose is of dried leaves and cereals. Taste is lightly tart and a bit citrus. Light wheat protein. Some white wine impressions. Body is light to medium, carbonation medium-high and mouthfeel is a bit weak and thin. Overall I thought it was OK but not much more.
3.1 How: Bottle (750 ml) at czar’s place. Bought from Craftshack. Old bottle? >>> A bland and disappointing Jolly Pumpkin with not much of the advertised flavors (banana, cloves, nutmeg). - Slightly hazy pale yellow-golden with a small ring of white foam and little to no lacing. - Lemony and herbal hops forward but not much else. - Where are the banana, clove and nutmeg? - Body is light and on the watery side. Herbal and rather bland finish. - One of the most disappointing Jolly Pumpkin I have had. Not much complexity here. Moderate sourness. Flavors: Lemon, herbal notes, cheesy presence, old rag.
3.0 pours unclear light yellow with a small creamy white cap, some retention and lacing. old grassy hops, strawberries, light acidity - lactic mostly but also lemony; mineral sancerrois white wine; woodsy and spicy. light carbonation, light body - watery; dry and tart grassy-herbal finish. boring and poor here character - nice white wine features though.
