Jopen Adriaan Wit

Jopen Adriaan Wit

Bottle: Unfiltered

Taste the summertime with Jopen Adriaan. Besides wheat and oats, this wheat beer also contains herbs. The result is a fresh and fruity beer with a smooth flavour. Hugely thirst-quenching and ideally enjoyed on a sunny outdoor terrace.

Jopen Adriaan is named after the De Adriaan windmill. This windmill stood on the banks of the Spaarne for centuries and milled grain for use by Haarlem brewers. In 1932, the mill was destroyed by fire. An initiative to rebuild the windmill was sponsored by Jopen through the sale of this wheat beer.

4.0 Very nice wit beer! Crisp, refreshing, orange-peel with a yeasty, herbal touch.
3.4 Bottle from Geers. Pours clear yellow with an unstable, thin, white head. Aroma of young yellow apple, banana peel, wheat, lemon, oats, pepper, aniseed, coriander. Taste has sweetish banana, apple & pear, softly estery at that, sourish lemon & wheat with spicy notes of aniseed & pepper underneath. Bready feel. Wheaty, grassy hoppy finish, subtle apple & spices. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Above average 'Witje', nothing more.
3.3 Lekker fris
3.3 Never rated this older Jopen beer, although I drank it already years ago. Very hazy pale yellow pour with big creamy white head, retaining fine. Aroma is typically wheat malts, bit citric, bit spicy yeast. Taste accordingly, nicely citric, wheat, yeast. Firm carbo. OK wheat beer, but rather 'general'. (Combined rate on 28/06/20, 18/11/20 and 22/11/21) This time I notice how rather sweet this wheat beer actually is, and soft spicy. Little aroma, attractive but sweetish taste, more as a weizen. (Re-rate 08/06/23)
3.3 Bottle, backlog from 2018. Herbs, citrus, fermented white grapes, light tart apple notes. Interesting, vinous take on the style.
3.0 33cl bottle, from Chez Sophie: BB Sep 2021. Poured into an old Hougaerdse DAS tumbler at home on 1st April 2020. hazed pale yellow body, white head that died swiftly. Aroma held some lemon and herbal yeastiness. taste followed the same lines, lemony, yeasty and herbal. OK, but not really a big fan of this style.

3.2 Bottle, pours hazy yellow color. Aroma of citrus, spices, malts, wheat, sweetness. Lightish body and bitterness, easy beer to drink, but quite simple.
2.9 Copenhagen 21/3 2019. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh Ø. From Jopen Giftbox. Usual Jopen design in Blue with an old Church and the motto “Crafting Divine Beer”. Pours hazy, pale yellow with medium-sized white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate Lacing. Aroma is citric sour and lightly spicy. Citrus, lemon with herbal notes of Black pepper and coriander. The spices dominate. Light carbonation. Thin, watery and almost flat texture. Flavor is sweetish and lemonadeish. Followed by a moderate sourness. Aftertaste is sweet and lingers for a short while. Does what a Wit bier is supposed to do in a generic way. Not bad but not very interesting either.
