Jopen Jacobus Rye Pale Ale

Jopen Jacobus Rye Pale Ale

Ter ere van 100 jaar Jacobuskerk. Crisp and bitter Rye Pale Ale.

Jopen Jacobus is a Rye Pale Ale. It is amber in colour and has a fruity bitterness thanks to the use of American hops. The rye malt gives the beer a distinct flavour. Jopen Jacobus RPA is named after the former Jacobskerk. Jopen took over this church for use as a brewery, grand café and restaurant and renamed it the Jopenkerk. This beer was developed in 2011 on occasion of the church’s centenary.

Jacobus was the patron saint of the pilgrims. During their pilgrimages, they spent their nights in guesthouses. These guesthouses were exempt from the payment of levies as long as they brewed beer with rye. This is why Jacobus is a Rye Pale Ale. A beer with body. 13°

3.6 Bottle 33cl. Almost clear dark amber with a white creamy head. Aroma is hoppy but with subtle malty tones. Taste is first malt, then fresh hops followed by heavy malt and then finally a fruity hoppy finish. Crisp but not over the top. Nice one.
3.7 Bottle from Albert Heijn. Pours clear dark golden with a lasting, thin, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of pink grapefruit, red apple, biscuit, fried onion, paprika, pepper, olive oil, mango. Taste has sweetish mango, red apple & orange on a biscuity-toffee-like malty base, solid rye body with bitter pepper, spices & touch of yeast. Dry, earthy & peppery hoppy finish, rye & yeast still at work here with a resinous, ripe fruit-like aftertaste. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. I'd go to church for this one!
3.6 Kruidig, geurig. Nasmaak blijft niet hangen. Lekker biertje
3.3 Flasche 0,33l: Kupfer, dunkles Orange, dezente Trübung, mäßig stabiler mittelporiger Schaum; frische + sehr fruchtige Nase, kräftige Süße, dunkle Fruchtigkeit, kräftig Malz, Malzzucker, Karamell, dunkle/eingelegte Früchte, Feigen, leichte Hopfenaromen, fruchtige Säure, angenehme fruchtig-würzige Bitterkeit; fruchtiger + sehr würziger Körper, leichte fruchtige Süße, Malz, dunkles Karamell, Hopfenaromen, leichte trockene Säure, cremig, kräftige Kohlensäure, leichte Röstaromen; angenehmer würzig-trockener Nachgang
3.1 Bottle, backlog from 2018. Resin, spicy rye, juicy citrus, rooibos, a minty touch as well. Not enough flavour strength though decent overall.
3.5 Alluring citrus aroma in an amber copper pour. Hop forward balance with a light spicy fruity body and big bitter finish.
2.7 Dark orange and hazy with a thin head. Smell of grains and grapefruit. Bitter taste with gingerbread notes. Medium carbonation.
1.9 Fruity wheetbear
3.5 Bottle. Clear amber color, small white head. Resinous, fruity heavy aroma. Dry taste, high bitterness. Resinous, stone fruit aftertaste. Medium carbonation, full body.
3.0 Bottle at hotel. Orange color, middle foam size. Good balanced beer. Drinkable and fits into style.
3.4 33cl bottle. Pours amber with moderate white foam, not lasting. Aroma is malty, hoppy, resinous. Body is kind of thin, with average carbonation. Taste is moderate in both bitterness and sweetness. Final is average.
4.2 Pours a slightly cloudy, deep, dark amber coloration with a large, fluffy, lasting head. Smells of toasted, bready, caramel malt and lighter citrus hops, with some lightly spicy notes and just a hint of pine as well. Taste is a great balance of sweet'ish toasted, bready, caramel malt and somewhat lighter citrus hops of grapefruit and tangerine, with some quite noticeable spicy accents, with black pepper standing out, and a hint of pine as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some caramel malt, citrus and black pepper lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. This is an excellent Rye Pale Ale with quite and impressive depth of flavot and mouthfeel for the ABV, with an outstanding balance of sweet, bready, caramel hops, bitter, piney, citrus hops and that spicey rye character.
3.3 Tap from Jopenkerk, Haarlem. Clear copper appearance. Aroma is malt and caramel. Flavour is sweet, bitter, dry and malt.
3.0 Zuerst stand ich dem Ganzen negativ gegenüber. Roggen halt. Später jedoch überraschend fruchtig, leicht malzig und angenehmerweise wenig Roggen. Gerne wieder.
3.9 Dark golden, slightly hazy, medium white head. Spices, pepper, malt in aroma, medium to full body, medium carbonation, malty taste, delicate bitter finish.
3.6 330ml at home, Munich. Aroma is make and light caramel with done hints of ripe peaches. Appearance is slightly hazy copy with a do white foam. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter. Full body, done dryness. Great.
3.5 Żytnie PA. Charakterystyczna butelka 330 ml.
3.9 Bottle, 330ml. Pours copper, unclear, pale brown head. Aroma is grain, hops, citrus. Taste gently bitter, with some gentle sweetness and acidity. Flavors of grain, rye, hops, medicinal hops, grapefruit, yest, caramel malt.
3.4 33cl bottle at home. Appearance: amber with fairly big off-white head. Aroma: citrus, candied sugar, tangerine, some pine. Taste: medium sweetness and above medium bitterness. Notes of rye, candied sugar, orange, hop resin and bread. Palate: medium bodied, smooth oily texture and medium carbonation. Overall: a really smooth drinker overall, especially in texture. Aroma is pretty average, but the taste is enjoyable.
3.8 33cl fles. Helder amberkleurig bier met ecru kleurig schuim. Geur: hop, grassig, fruitig, pompelmoes, perzik. Smaak: licht hopbitter, wat fruitig, perzik, sinaasappel, wat pompelmoes, licht zoet, karamel. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: licht hopbitter. Lekkere doordrinker.
4.5 Love the amber color, and the fruity flavors are beautifully complemented by the hoppy bitterness. Not sure if the rye malt makes a difference, but this brew comes closest to my favorite American Amber Ale at my local microbrewery.
3.7 Bottle on the beach of Zandvoort. Pleasantly bitter, somewhat fruity and quite thicc pale ale, right now feels like the perfect beach beer.
3.5 Tap (Stu Mostów, Wrocław). Ciemno-bursztynowe z niewielką, beżową pianą. Owocowe z przyjemna acz delikatną chmielową goryczką, lekkie w odbiorze nawet nieco płaskie, pije się z przyjemnością.
3.5 Tap (Browar Stu Mostów, Wrocław) Ładnie się prezentuje. Niestety w aromacie i smaku jest więcej owoców niż chmielu. Niemniej przyjemne piwo
