4.3Kruidig, zoet, zeer romig. Weinig bitter. Iets fruitig, rood fruit
2.933 cl bottle served in large snifter, cool but not chilled. It pourshazy reddish brown with an ephemerous tan head. Aroma is very mild: some molasses, some coffee bean, a hint of ash and plum. Taste is sweetish, somewhat fizzy, boozy, slick and not really bitter nor long-lasting. Interesting? Yes. Disappointing? That too.
3.3Bottle. Aroma; strong fruitty, cherries and apples, red wine, some sweet sugar and cake, little phenolic, little booze. Smells like Belgian quad. Nice silky thick texture. Full body, dry little boozy finish. Interesting "rye" effect.
3.3Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver
Dark amber/brown colour with small head. Smell of alcohol, some cabbage. Good body strength, a bit oily, moderately sweet, some rye bread, and spirit in the finish.
Not very convincing, and quite boozy.
3.6330mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Nose brings out heaps of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and earthy rye. Flavour is heavy, with lots of brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and earthy rye. Nice big body, with pleasant alcoholic warming notes on the finish. Very good.
3.5Suszone owoce, czerwone jabłko, toffi, chlebek. Niemało również alkoholu. Bardzo fajna, gęsta i klejąca faktura. Umiarkowana słodycz, niskie wysycenie, średnia goryczka.
4.1330 ml bottle. Pours a beautiful dark reddish brown with full head. Aromas of candi sugar, dried fruit and toasted malts. Big flavors follow same with addition coppery yeast and sharp rye poking through sweet malts. Beauty.
3.6330 ml Flasche.
3.8Aroma is sweet and fruity, prune is the dominant note. Light hazy reddish dark brown color with a medium off white head. Flavor is heavy sweet and fruity, with honey and prune everywhere. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish is sweet and fruity. An impressive, sweet, good balanced, pleasant beer. 0,33l bottle.
2.0Bottle (from debierliefhebber.nl). Pours dark reddish brown. Aroma is sweet, grains, malt, rye, booze. Flavor is sweet, malt, grains cardboard, feels sticky and gluey. Overall: glue... not a fan...fuck this is bad....
4.3Bottle. Pours cloudy copper brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit, yeast and malt. Sweet flavour of malt, caramel and barrel, with pronounced notes of yeast and notes of hops. Lingering, boozy afteraste with notes of yeast and malt. Heavy. Good. One of the best BW's I have ever had.
4.5Bottle, 12%. Distinct bready and malt syrupy aroma. Smells like Eisbock to me, but it must be the rye talking. Clear chestnut colour. Small creamy off-white head. The flavour is very malty. Extremely malty, actually, and nicely bready. Mild citrus note. A powerful beer, flavourwise, but sort of well-balanced. I like it.
3.6Bottle @ home w friends/chef. Appearance: pours clear amber with ok off-white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: caramel, rye, light chocolate, brown sugar, raisins, light alcohol and dried fruits. palette: strong malty and light dried fruity aroma, average carbonation, medium body, medium to notable sweetness, somewhat balanced by a medium bitterness, average to long duration and an oily texture. 3.4Aroma van rozijn, vanille, Napoleon snoepjes en cacao-fantasy. Smaak is wat hoekiger, naast de zweem alcohol ook veel zoet met zuur. Mondgevoel is erg olie-achtig. THT maart 2018, donker rood bruin, geen kraag. Apart gewoon of gewoon apart? Lippen plakken van het suikergehalte. Langzaam drinken.
3.225-DEC-2017, bottle @home, from Boxbeers.
Hazy, dark amber wirh a lasting tan head.
Aroma is sweet malt.
Taste is sweet malt with dried fruit, rye bread. Far too sweet.
2.6(Backlog Aut2017) 33cl bb2018-03. - Kort: with 70% rye in the bill, this is basicaly a dense rye bread doused with extra rye bourbon raisins. Did not really find an entrance point to this rye wine tbh, although the modern balancing hops are there too. Wet, caramel-crusted, still-leavening rye bread, maybe preslathered with some honey white grape jelly. Traces of dusty grain husks, more unfinished bakery. - Feels like a fuller-mouthed status-quo to not drinking anything on my palate. Overall well-made, just among my least favourite styles, coming close to an imagined ImpHellerRoggenBock. Can imagine that the several BA versions alleviate the malt density a welcome bit.
3.7Bottle from Beerlovers: Dark brown color, small beige head. Aroma is intensive milk chocolate, toffee, caramel, honey, nuts, dried pears, dark fruits, alcohol. Oily texture, malty, sweet flavor with dark sugar, molasses, dark dried fruits, raisins, cake, spices, wood. Strong and powerful.
3.9(Draught at Foeders, Amsterdam, 28 July 2017) Brownish amber colour with creamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, crisp-bread, dried fruit and vinous hints of alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, caramel, raisins and a sweet, vinous and slightly sticky finish with a balanced spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. A bit sweet and sticky, but really tasty, quite powerful and warming. Very nice.

3.9330 ml bottle, bb 03.03.2018. Pours a hazy, dark mahogany with a small, light beige head. The aroma is medium malty with honey, caramel, toffee and biscuit and initial lightly estery, fruity notes (hints of pear, cherries and some banana - rather unexpected smell), which disappear quickly, lightly alcoholic. Full oily and sticky body with a very low carbonation, a medium to heavy sweetness (not lingering) and a light bitterness. The flavor is very malty, brown sugar, some molasses, dark fruits, raisins, prunes, dark bread and spieces followed by some woody notes towards the finish. The ABV is pretty well hidden - light warming feeling in the aftertaste. Drinks very well with a quiet complex flavor profile - excellent sipper.

4.1Rye wine (the hybrid craft beer child of barleywine and Roggenbier, in a sense), collab of Jopen with Lervig. At LIBF. Pale yellowish beige, medium thick head, hazy coppery bronze robe, translucent but darker than average for a barleywine(-ish ale). Intense, enticing, complex bouquet of candied fig, vanilla, caramel sauce, ripe and sweet blue plums, cognac, marzipan, sweet sherry or white port, honey, toffee, pepper. Sweet onset, noble candied sweetness, candied date with a sourish redcurrant touch for balance, soft carbo, oily and notably vinous mouthfeel, sweet caramelly malt body, thick and full with lots of lingering brown sugary sweetness on top and the typical ’soggy grey bread’ spiciness of rye underneath, very toffeeish general character, long warming finish, lots of heating brandy- or rum-like alcohol, peppery touch more due to this alcohol effect than due to hops but possibly still aided by the rye, alcohol - though very pronounced - manages still not to become overly wry or obnoxious considering the style and ABV. Lovely sipper, complex, probably ages great too - Jopen, in existence since the nineties, clearly managed to jump on the craft beer train in time and seems to produce ever more impressive beers in recent years, though Lervig’s daringness and excellence surely helped a lot here as well.
3.8Deep nutty color with a fine off white head. Good lacing. Ok intensity in the aroma. Decent mellow sweetness. Full body and a fine carbonation level. Oily texture. Toffee, bready, candy and dried fruits. Nice tasty evening sipper.
[Bottle at Havnelageret Beer Festival -17 in Fredrikstad, Norway]
3.9Bottle @ Fox and hounds, Aabenraa. Clear, dark golden to amber body with a small, lacing beige head. Strong and wonderful aroma of malt, dry fruit and rye bread. Flavor is sweet, strong and good as well, rich, dark malt, lots of nice dry fruit, caramel, mild balanced bitterness and a hint of warming alcohol. A really nice take on the barley wine, tasty and relatively easy drinkable. Nice!
