3.8 12 oz bottle into an Erdinger Weissbier glass on 22nd Dec 2017 while on holiday in California. Cloudy orange, huge off-white head. Yeasty nose with some banana esters and a hint of cloves, some Bubblegum aromas too. Really good taste, yeasty, fairly sweet (for a traditional Hefeweizen) with the bananas from the nose also in the taste. Really good value for the money and my sweet tooth liked it a lot.
3.0 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy orange-bronze color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was yeasty with clove and a touch of phenol. The flavor was yeasty and bready with clove, bubblegum and black pepper. Medium length finish. Medium body. Decent.
3.7 from 12 oz bottle from TJs. Aroma: aroma is typical of a well executed weissbier. yeasty esters (bananas), and phenols (spicy cloves) and a soft bready wheat malt. Appearance: a tad darker than expected. its actually somewhere between a deep gold and and pale amber and it also seems to be filtered (krystalweizen) although the label says it is not. clarity is close to 100%. 3" head has very good retention but no lacing is present. Flavor: soft wheat/bready malts, pronounced bananas and clove with a hint of bubblegum. Bitterness is minimal. just enough to balance. Palate: medium body, creamy texture, effervescent carbonation and no detectable astringency (until the finish). Finish: smooth malt sweetness and some astringency that hits the palate after the fact. Overall: a decent rendition of a Hefeweizen, the filtered krystal kind, with slightly darker malts. drinkable. GB has always made good German styles.
3.6 Pours a three finger white head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Crystal clear amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Clove and citrus nose, flavor is wheat bread and clove. Cheap at $1.17 for a 12oz bottle from Trader Joe’s Nashua, NH
3.3 Poured from bottle...pours darker yellow with white head...no lacing and lots of carbonation...nose is banana, bubble gum and spices...mouth is the same...i like this...great beer for a buck.
2.3 12 oz. bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s Omaha location. Poured cloudy golden, foamy white head. Aroma was bananas, light clove, fruity. Taste was sweet, watered down, metallic.
3.2 Clear blonde beer with minimal head. apricot, banana notes. A little spice on the backend. Im usually not a big hefe fan but this was solid, esp. for the money.
3.5 Trader joe’s bottle to improvised Weizen glass (pilsner). Banana yeasty sweet aroma. Cloudy light amber with foamy head. Sweet banana slight tartness. Light mouthfeel, highly carbonated. Not my usual style but definitely grew on me over the course of 10 minutes.
3.2 Pours a rather dark hazy amber from a bottle. Nose of banana and clove, flavor adds bubble gum. Okay beer.
3.3 Surprised by this. Cloudy orange in the glass. Nose hits the classic Heffe notes, hit a great whack of banana. Palate is a little syrupy for my preference, but at the price point, very drinkable.
2.6 OK. There’s some citrus, some yeasty-ness, a bit of minor hops. Not bad but nothing stands out. Decent beer if it’s free beer.
3.3 Cloudy yellow. Citrus and spices, banana and sugar. A light malt, crisp with a long and full finish. Not bad.
3.9 Gordon Biersch beers in a TJ’s label & all for $6 a 6 pack. A wonderful Bavarian Hefe. Great clove, wheat, & dry finish.
3.3 Bottle - big foamy head, hazy dark straw color, big banana, clove and bubblegum aroma and flavor, sweet wheat backbone, nice yeasty finish, good hefe overall
3.2 From a cheap traders joe bottle, looks like a hefe with body. Has that typical hefe banana aroma. Perhaps a little vinegary, but I like the feel tartness adds to this hefe. Yes, I’m starting to really appreciate this one. Good cheap hefe for a $1! Liked it! From previous Josephsbrau, wasn’t sure I would but this is not bad!
2.5 Impressive initial head that leaves excellent ring lace on the glass. Brown color that is so cloudy it looks muddy. Sweet dark malt aroma. I can detect wheat but it’s in the background to sweet smell. Reminds me of a dark bock. Reminds me of a candy bar. This is coyingly sweet and unbalanced. There is a good bit of wheat in the background. The body is appropriate for the style with good level of carbonation. Too sweet to be a contender. I won’t be repurchasing this again.
3.3 From 12oz bottle, purchased single bottle for $1.17, 6 pack around $6-7 Aroma: big banana, slight clove, some bubblegum, sweet candy Appearance: orange, cloudy, white head that didn’t linger Taste: Medium sweet, light bitter Palate: medium body, creamy texture, sweet/butterscotch finish Overall: Very sweet. A tad too sweet. The aroma was there, but the taste was a bit off. Nice body, but had a slight butterscotch taste to me. Not a bad beer, but that butterscotch is throwing me off. That might just be the combination of the fruit and bubblegum, but it just tastes off. I’m sure a lot of people might actually enjoy that taste, but not me.
3.6 Hazy medium gold pour, 3 fingers of billowy white head. Nose is fresh banana. Little on the sweet side. Middle is steady, mild bubblegum, accented with more banana & lightly kilned malt. Finish has a hint of butterscotch. Pretty good.
4.6 This beer is the only beer I have found in California that taste identical to Hefeweizen in southern Germany.
3.2 Poured from a bottle. Cloudy orange color, medium frothy white head. Medium clove aroma. Medium body with a banana, clove and musky flavor with a medium finish.
3.1 From a bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a voluminous head that leaves nice lacing down the glass. Aroma is spicy clove, traces of banana, some fresh bread. Taste is bread mixed with a cracker dryness, a gentle fruitiness and just a touch of a lingering bitterness in the background. Mouthfeel is thin-medium with a rounded but prominent carbonation. Generally a really nice beer, clearly well put together.
2.2 Poured from a twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass, thank you Mom! :) Pours a nice golden, amber color with decent head. Smells alot of bananas and bread! A regular, average hefeweizen.
3.6 12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A big citrus and peppery nose. The flavor is big banana esters, spicy, citrus. Very spicy, soft and flavorful. Nice brew.
4.3 JosephsBrau Bavarian Style Hefeweizen has a lot to like especially at the value price from Trader Joe’s. Pours a non-traditional cloudy orange with a thick light orange head. Aromas bubblegum, orange and banana rise from the froth. Taste is more orange with a hint of banana and not much clove spiciness. JosephBrau puts out a delightful Hefe that is very enjoyable even though it deviates from the style somewhat.
3.5 Banana nutty and clove aroma and flavor. Nice beer. A little watery palate and slightly low carbonation, but good overall.
3.4 Poured from a 12 oz into a weizen glass in late 2013. A: Orange/red. Fluffy head. S: Strong banana. T: Loads of banana, also has clove. O: This is a solid hef. It doesn’t reach the upper levels of the hef hierarchy (if there is such a thing) but it comes close. It is also very affordable.
3.4 What should have been a boring label, ended up looking very clean. Standard 12oz longneck. Brumous tan beer - looks like someone threw a wet paper bag into a blender. Tight, small white head. A clean banana/plantain aroma with clove and light vanilla. Mild bittering, slightly sweet, lots of esters - reminds me of Now and Later candies. Medium body with fine-grained carbonation. Very nice. TJ’s, Tallahassee.
3.1 Tallahassee, FL - Trader Joe’s - 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy medium golden pour, soft, fluffy white head. Aroma has some cloves, touch of banana flavor. Somewhat candied flavor, a touch of bubble gum, some cloves, a touch of artificial banana flavor Mouthfeel has a decent crispness to it. Not half bad.
3.9 Huge ripe banana nose. Very thick foam settles to thick lacing/retention. Bright hazy orange. Really nice looking beer. Palate continues with the the ripe banana, and is quite thick, a nice mouthfeel, can almost feel myself chewing the banana. A well done take on the classic style.
2.3 "this beer is still a touch on the boring side, but has a nice balance to it. i recommend it for the price, but not if you can afford better beers. just ok."
