Kane Head High

Kane Head High

Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

3.5 Can (thanks vastactiv). Clear amber color. Medium size, white head, stays. Citrus, fruity, caramel, malty in aroma and in taste. Nice old school malty ipa.

3.1 473ml can - Thanks VastActiv! (6:3:6:3:13=3.1) Sweet milkshakey aroma, some grapefruit. Full palate, smooth. Harsh hop burn bitterness. Lactose vanilla sweetness, pretty handle-turning NEIPA, but fortunately not starchy. Too sweet, told me to expect a strong beer, as if it was there to hide something.
4.2 on tap at Yard House in Morrestown - excellent. Cloudy orange color. Great tropical hop aroma and flavor.
3.7 (Can, 0.473 l - canned 03.01.2019, thanks VastActiv, 20190215) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had pine, citricness and tangerine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, resin, citricness, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A pleasant hoppy brew.
3.7 Can 1 pint. US can tasting. Thanks Vastactiv! Pours slightly unclear golden color. Juicy, very citrusy, hoppy aroma. Flavor has grapefruit, oranges, hops, light sweetness. Pleasant brew.
3.7 Can from a friend (tiong). Bitter taste with citrus, floral hops, resin, mango, pine and grass. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, resin, mango and grass. Very nice IPA.
3.9 473ml can. Canned 01/03/19. Thanks VastActiv! Crisp, sweetish and hoppy with some pine, grass, herbal notes, grapefruit and tropical notes. Okay, sweetish and slightly juicy west coast IPA.
3.9 Tap at Cork and City, Hobokem. Color is deep cloudy golden with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, tropical fruits, hops and malts. Juicy and tasty. Great.
3.9 Hazy golden color with off-white head. Aroma has sweet vanilla notes, biscuits and tangerine rind. Taste is hoppy but there is also a nice biscuit malt sweetness. Finish has some orange rind bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Quite smooth and easy drinking.
3.6 Thanks to Adrian. The aroma is a little off, probably due to it not being fresh, but the flavor is solid. Butterscotch colored pour and some peach and pine flavor. Some Citra and mosaic I bet - a good IPA.
3.7 Poured from can thanks Stacey hazy peach with a white head. Aroma is citrus aromatic hops and pine. Taste follows, orange grapefruit, floral hops nice mouth feel and a pine finish.
3.6 Fresh can, thanks to Stacey, drunk 7/18/18. Mostly clear, blonde-golden with a sizable white head showing moderate retention. Nose is piney, heavy PNW hops with a decent fruitiness; lots of lemon, with a hint of juiciness to the lemon. Spicy, floral, quite aromatic, but most of it being pine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange rind, etc...Malts are seemingly dry, sparse and show light biscuit and cracker. Clean, no alcohol. Light resin, though it's not too problematic. Soft, malty, well-attenuated texture with ample, engaging carbonation and obviously well-brewed. Clean and without any yeast disruption nor much resin. But it's just all bitterness, pine, grapefruit, lemon and orange. So much monotonous citrus with very strong bitterness. These are not and never have been enjoyable to me and I'm thankful every day for the New England IPA. But it's great that there's an IPA for everyone out there.
3.6 16 oz. can Stacey picked up at the brewery. Aroma shows light citrus, mellow pine, and a touch of hay. Flavor is traditional “old school” IPA. Mellow citrus with a moderate pine bitterness. Certainly nothing wrong here at all.
3.5 Pint can from the brewery. Grapefruity aromas, piney, somewhat tropical. Hazy light orange with a somewhat lasting white head. Dry, citrusy. Medium bodied.
3.7 Pale golden orange pour with a thin creamy head and bands of lacing .... aroma of cara pils, caramel malts, citrusy grapefruit, orange and rindy ..... taste is of Pilsner malt, citrusy grapefruit, orange, rindy, caramel and biscuity malts .... bitter and rindy citrusy finish with lingering grapefruit and orange .... solid and sessionable
3.7 The beer has got a hazy golden colour with a steady head and medium body. Aroma of hops and orange zest. taste of hops, citrus, pine, herbs, spices and oranges. Flowery bitter finish.
3.4 From notes, tasted at Great American Beer Festival 2017. Will add more notes if I get to try this again. Pretty solid.
3.9 On tap at Gabf. Pours a cloudy orange with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is tropical fruit and dank. Medium body, juicy, melon, grapefruit, lingering resin bitterness, very nice.
3.7 Strong citrus aromas. Gold and hazy in color with great head. Taste is citrusy of grapefruit and tangerine. Nice underlying malt notes. Crushable
3.8 Pours cloudy yellow with some foam, light aroma of tropical fruits and hops, bitter hops upfront with fruit sweetness at the end, nice carbonation, well done, tap.
3.4 Sampled at GABF 2017 in Denver, CO. Numerical rating only - did not take detailed notes.
4.0 Can from brewery: pours a so uncool mostly clear with an off white head. Aroma is pineapple, pine, citrus. Taste is tropical and citrusy, some light pine. Bitterness is there in moderate doses. Falls somewhere between a more traditional IPA and the contemporary juice bombs. However, it attains that balance with finesse and immense drinkability.
3.8 Can from dmac, cheers! Gold pour with a large white head. Mild marmalade complements plenty of piney c hop aromatics. Some gentle grass. Generally well balanced, bright carb makes this eminently crushable. More piney bitterness on the finish. Fairly delicate malt. Cool stuff.
3.8 Pours cloudy yellow orange. White foam. Pine and grapefruit. Similar taste. Bitter finish. Pretty darn well done.
3.9 Cannette.
3.7 A hazed golden ipa with a thick frothy lacing light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, loads of citrus pulp, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity citrusy biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Bar Left, Terminal C, Newark Airport.
