Kapittel Watou Prior

Kapittel Watou Prior

Bottle conditioned.

This dark beer has been brewed with careful attention in accordance with our age old brewing tradition. It is a flavourful beer, tasting slightly bitter-sweet.

3.0 Donker bier licht zuur/bitter
3.0 2004 vintage. Poured a deep amber to brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Yeast, earthiness, oxidation, and dark fruits. Age thinned it out, but still drinkable.
4.0 Bottiglia.
3.5 330ml bottle from belgiuminabox.com. Pours pale brown-reddish with medium/big tan head. Aroma is alcohol, malt, brown sugar, faint chocolate. Taste is sweet at the beginning with some coffee and caramel but then come a bit of black tea bitterness. Big carbonation with a bit of a sour aftertaste. Nice Belgian strong ale.
0.0 Moutsmaak, chocoladetoetsen en brood. Ideaal voor bij een gerecht. Stevige drank met lange afdronk
3.5 Dark copper appearance. Aroma is brown sugar, malt, toffee and biscuit. Flavour is cherry, dark fruits, malt, bitter and caramel.
3.7 33cl bottle at home (26 VIII 2019), as Kapittel Prior 9°. A classic abt ale, strong Belgian beer with dark, black body - I drank this one as a vintage - and a reddish, ruby red shade, not thick or oily and quite dull. On top there is a swiftly diminishing thick beige, brown collar. The nose has lots of sweetness in there, think of overripe blue grapes, plums, raisins, blue and black forest fruits, cassonade sugar, sherry, port and tons of dextrose. The overwhelming idea in this vintage bottle is chocolate mousse and milk chocolate (no oxidation, thank God!). Appealing for sure, but nothing special. The malt undertones are traditional Belgian, with many yeasty hints and earth or dust flavours. The taste has less trump cards, as to be expected. Still, this is a lovely complex brew, especially when it is aged well. The body is quite heavy, mixed with a medium carbonation and that typical lingering Leroy ground water features. Nonetheless, this brew is one of the flag ships of the brewery, and stands firm in the gamma for reason. The mouthfeel combines two stories: a sweet, round, silky maltness on the one hand, and a dry bitter ending with a surprising amount of hoppyness on the other. The taste has caramel, port, grapes soda, lots of alcohol, different straw hints, chocolate cake, bread yeast, perhaps some liquorice, sherry, whisky peat, coffee candy sweets, mocha, dried fruits such as peach and even banana. The ending shares some lovely herby hops, lots of them, leaving the finish with a huge amount of dry peat features and some roast - which I can appreaciate a lot. Too bad I didn't wait a couple of years longer to open the bottle.
3.7 Pour/Appearance: It has a fairly dark pour that gives the impression it is fairly carbonated. Aroma: It has a bready clean aroma with a little caramel in there. Palate: The mouth feel is fizzy, smooth, and not as heavy as expected. Flavor: The flavor is pretty complex as I get a bit of a malty start, with bitter tones, and a sour mix that has a bit more sour on it that lingers for some time afterwards. Overall: The alcohol isnt too forward but it hits pretty hard. I had only made it through about 2/3 of a glass before I felt the effects. At 4,40€ I thought it was a good value for flavor and inebriation value.
2.9 Red brown colour good head and lacing. Rich malt chocolate aroma. Malt chocolate spice flavour. Smooth palate.
3.2 Almost clear amber with a short lived off white head. Caramel, fudge, toffee, toasted wheat bread, roasted malts and wet dog for aroma. Slightly acidic/metallic, halfway medium sweet and equally bitter. Medium bodied with the same amount of fizz. Not a bad beer.
3.0 Helt vanlig typisk belgare. God, men tyvärr inget utmärkande.
4.0 Flesje donkerbruin bier, genoeg koolzuur. Geur gebrandemout mout en suikers. Smaak mout, pruimen, vanille, koffie, bitter. Nasmaak koffie, kandij, pruim. Lekker.
3.3 Robe brune, rouge sombre, trouble.
3.6 Bottle. Pours light hazelnut brown, big tan head. Grain, caramel, toast, orange peel and marmalade aroma. Black tea bitterness, sweet and bitter orange, toast flavors, sticky mouthfeel. Creamy, smooth, bitter and complex. Nice.
3.0 Bottle as Prior 9. Pours clear deep red with big bubbles that dissipate quickly. Aroma is phenols, grainy malts, figs. Flavour is bitter caramel, cherry pith, caramel. High carbonation, thin body. OK.
4.3 0,33l bottle. Hazy deep ruby colour with long lasting, stiff and huge off-white head. Aroma: Champagne like, brut yeast, fermented grapes. With some time a red currant tone comes in. Taste: Has a quite malty sweet start with a champagne like little bit tarty and softly bitter mouthfeel. Has a quite oily texture. Medium/full body with medium carbonation. Long lasting sourish, gently bitter finish.
4.5 0,33 bottle. It is a beautiful deep, brownish-amber color with a matching foam that quickly fades. Its aroma is reminiscent of aszú wine, cognac, sweet, compact, delicious. Characteristic taste, caramel, raisins, the taste is for real winter and fits the color of the beer. The extremely high degree of alcohol can be felt only slightly, in addition to the fruity, honey sweetness, it also feels characteristically bitter. Very serious dessert beer !!! Nice to meet you. *** Gyönyörű mély, barnás-borostyán szín, ehhez passzoló habbal, ami azért gyorsan elapad. Illata aszú-borra, konyakra emlékeztető, édeskés, tömör, finom. Karakteres íz, karamell, mazsola, az íz igazi télire való, és passzol a sör színéhez. A rendkívül magas alkohol fokot csak picit érezni, a gyümölcsös, mézes édesség mellett karakteres keserű is érződik. Nagyon komoly desszert sör!!! Örülök a találkozásnak.
3.7 Copenhagen 16/92018. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Bryggervangen, Kbh Ø. Chubby happy looking Monks consuming dark beer on the label. Looks like a Monastery worth joining. Gold rim on the label. Pours hazy maroon with big off-white head. Settles as 3 cm thick blanket of foam. Substantial lacing. Aroma is sweet and medium-intense. Caramel, humid Belgian basement, fermentation, dark fruits, light licorice and a healthy dose of alcohol. Light sourish notes. Medium carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly prickly texture. Flavor is heavy sweet with a lighter spiciness. Followed by moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is fairly sweet with light bitter notes and slightly metallic notes of alcohol. Lingering. Good Heavy Belgian which does not avoid being rather boozy. But then again it's probably fair enough that you can taste an ABV of 9.
3.4 Bottle, 330 ml. Hazy dark brown, thin foam. Aromas of sweet chocolate biscuit, sweet caramel, strong roasted sweet nutty notes. On the palate there's a bit sweet coffee feeling, more sweet caramel and vanilla-flavoured chocolate cake. Extremely long aftertaste, my only problem is the lack of the perfect balance. Not disturbing, but yet not perfect. Gooc stuff, great and complex, a real big boy...
4.5 Väldigt god! Välbalanserad mustig, söt, tjära
3.6 Miedzianej barwy, zmętnione. Piana średnio obfita, dosyć trwała. W aromacie karmel i trochę ciemnych, suszonych owoców.
