Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPA

Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPA

It’s a job. And a hazardous one at that. Benefits, you ask? I hardly think so.

But the show must go on. So, it’s with bravado that the Rodeo Clown takes his place in the arena lights. Whether or not he’s insane is not important right now. It’s with grit and intensity that the Clown steps in the path of almost certain destruction.

Our Double IPA is much the same. At 9.5% ABV, Rodeo Clown Double IPA coats the tongue in bitterness and packs a punch that will knock a bull on its ass . Intense and maybe a little insane drink carefully, but drink often. Ladies and Gentlemen, let the show begin.

3.4 12 oz via can from a friend. Aroma of resinous hops, pine, mild caramel malt, and light toasty/bready notes. Similar flavor, adding moderate hop bitterness and a mild grainy sweetness Medium to full body with a balanced finish. Not bad.
2.8 [2015 Backlog] Can shared at Pauls for the FF tasting. Pours a golden amber body with off white head. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with notes of spice, miscellaneous fruits, bready malts, pine and yeast.
3.5 An oddly delicious beer. I love IPA's but double IPA beers are even better. They pack a hefty punch and match that with flavor. This one is very good
3.2 From can to glass. Clear copper with smallish off-white head. Cloying malts from the alcohol. Could have attenuated more of the sugar out.
2.7 Deep amber and copper in colour with a large, four centimetre tall tan head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of biting grassy and herbal hoppiness with some big sets of alcohol, biscuits, malt, yeast, grain and pungency - this shows a lot and hops aren’t the strongest thing in there. Medium to Full-bodied; Super pungent and bitter flavours with the grain and alcohol showing through the strongest, but then showing some biscuity and nutty malts with caramel sweetness and a pungent, very bitter hop note as well. Aftertaste shows alcohol, warm sweetness from caramel and toffee and a definite earthy and pungent flavour from the malt, alcohol and hops, in that order. Overall, a decent beer at best, but this is far too pungent, malty, bitter and strong for the style or to make it worthwhile. I sampled this twelve ounce can a few minutes after returning from my first circus (and CLOWN) ever in my life, at Ringling Brothers’ Circus in Washington on 01-April-2017 with my kids, with this twelve ounce can purchased from Spec’s in Dallas, Texas on 11-November-2015 for US$3,78 sampled at home in Washington on 01-April-2017.
4.2 Pours with dark amber and head in white. Nose is rich malty with hefty herbal and citric notes. Taste is really round, high viscosity and and rich in herbal notes and citrus. Palate is extremely long and lasting with remaining tastes.incredible beer.
4.0 Tap at the friendly spot Pours bright clear dark orange hue with a small soapy off white head and great lacing. Nose is all c hops old school I ipa. I love it! Lots of citrus canned pineapple grapefruit just lovely. Flavors are huge grapefruit canned/candied citric fruits, lite sweetness. Very balanced with some nice caramel malts. Very under appreciated I iipa if you ask me.
3.8 Bomber. Nice bitter aroma. Cloudy, light amber color. Pleasant bitterness, good malt balance. Med bodied. Very tasty IPA!
3.7 January 9, 2017 - on tap at Hofbrau. Dark orange pour with nice amount of head that lasted. Aroma and taste that were citrusy hops and malt. Nicely balanced and very drinkable at almost 10%.
3.8 Finally a chance to purchase Karbach in west Texas. My first try is Rodeo Clown that I have not tasted before. Good move on my part. It goes into a tall shaker glass and is a great dark amber giving a decent beige head. I detect the hops and some toffee in the scent. The taste is strong but not crazy hops, a mango sweetness and a great fullness in the mouth. It ends with a good push of bitterness. Not in league with Dogfish Head 90 Minute but close enough. And I love the can.
3.3 500ml can acquired by bananabi11 via trade and shared with him. Thx. Sweet malty with fruity nose. A bit marzen-y. Shrug? 13
3.9 12oz can. Clear dark amber color with ivory foam. Nice dank, spicy, earthy hop aromas. Smooth medium body. Very nice dank, spicy, citrus, earthy hopppy flavors with a dry cracker maltage---very tasty.
3.5 Tap@Karbach. Pours crystal clear amber, medium creamy off-white head, long lasting with good lacing. Aroma is restrained grapefruit, hints of pine, herbal notes. Flavor is light plus sweet, grapefruit, kinda pithy, pine and herbal undertones. Light plus bitter with a lingering bitterness that lasts. Medium body, soft mouthfeel.
3.2 6 week old can. Murky Amber with an average off white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is fairly mild. Pine and citrus mostly. Some sweetness. Taste is big bitter pine. Grapefruit and sticky resin and citrus. Lots of malt sweetness. Big, thick, and sticky. Just ok.
3.3 October 2016 - Can share at One Canada Square. Thanks Scoopy! As ’Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPA’. Dark amber orange brown, clear, still with a foamy light brown head, full lacing. Aroma is toffee, cardboard, papery. Body is light with soft carbonation. Taste is dusty, toffee malts, sugary with a soft finish. Simple, OK. (3.3)
3.5 12 oz can. Crafted on 07/25/16. (Spec’s) Austin, TX. Clear reddish copper color with a mid-size foamy off-white head. Sweet and strong hoppy bitter aroma with dark fruits, frosted something and sugar. Barley Winey. The flavor is really strong deep bitterness, dark fruity hops, sugary sweetness and caramel malt. A bit less sweetness and we would be talking...
3.4 Bottle shared at the level 42. Canary wharf tasting 20/10/2016. Many thanks to Paul for this one. A amber orange coloured pour with a beige head. Aroma is big caramel, orange, peel, cinnamon, pine. Flavour is caramel and toffee malts, pine, orange rind, candied orange. Plate is medium sweet. Sticky, moderate carbonation. Old school double ipa.
3.4 33cl can shared in CW. Thanks to Paul. It pours a clean rich golden color with a small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet starchy and lightly starchy bitter. 3.3 Can shared in London - thanks to Paul. Pours rich reddish gold with a creamy, off-white head. The nose has pine, lightly toasted bread, caramel. Medium sweet flavour with notes of caramel, melon, oily pine. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Resinous finish with more bready malts, orange, some leaves, pine. Not bad.
3.4 Can split at Level 42, thanks to Paulo, 20/10/16. Rich golden amber with a well appointed beige cap. Nose is caramel malt, spice, apple pie, bitter orange, straw. Taste comprises caramel malt, spice, bitter orange rinds, grapefruit, toasted grains. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok DIPA in an old skool style.
3.5 Keg at Karbach. It pours clear deep brown with a decent light tan head. The aroma is old-school malt double IPA action, bitter - sweet, wood, pine, toffee, resin and some dried fruits. The taste is rich, bitter - sweet, sticky, pine, resinous, toffee, dried fruits, fruit cake, some alcohol warmth and toasty brown sugars with a slick finish. Medium+ body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Almost like a hoppy American-Style (session) barley wine. Pretty tasty, if a bit old - school.
3.8 Dark red pour from draft at their brewpub. White head. Very dank and hoppy fruity. Not bad. Floral. Tropical
3.1 As far as imperial IPAs go this was pretty disappointing to me. The flavor was too caramelly sweet and the bitterness didn’t balance well with the caramel.
3.7 Tap at the brewery. Clear light amber color. White head. Hoppy aroma. Heavy caramel malt backbone as well. Hoppy flavor, resiny, dry bitter finish. Malt is certainly a part of this as well. Nice.
3.2 Pours a very dark amber, more of a brown really. Aroma is malt-focused, sweet syrup and caramel. Nice hop profile, sort of a generic bitterness too. Good beer.
3.0 Draught at the brewery. Dark copper. Thin head. Malty, syrupy-minty, quite sweet overall. The hops are minty and mandarin. But this comes across as a very strong, sweet example, getting into "Triple IPA" territory here.
3.5 Jaune pale avec presque pas de mousse. L’arôme des à plein d’agrumes. En bouche c’est amer, un peu sucré, et plein d’agrumes. Bien équilibré et assez facile à boire pour le style!
3.4 Bottle thanks to Zinister. Poured dark brown orange with off white head. Aroma malty old citrus. Light carb med bod. Taste light iced tea dank.
4.0 Pours copper orange with a small white head the fades to a nice cap. AROMA: malty, dank fruit, caramel, herbs, coriander, orange zest, citrus, pine resin, earthy, leaves, floral, herbal hops and other tropical fruit. TASTE: malty, dank fruit, caramel, herbs, coriander, orange zest, citrus, pine bitterness, earthy, leaves, floral, hops spice and other tropical fruit. AFTER TASTE: malty, caramel, coriander, citrus and pine bitterness with an oily tannin finish.
3.6 Draft pour hazy light copper with moderate ecru head. Nose floral, banana, almost bubble gum. Taste big sweet up front, mango, banana, some citrus. Mid palate light bitterness through the finish. Not used to bubble gum flavors in a double.
