Karl Strauss Aurora Hoppyalis IPA

Karl Strauss Aurora Hoppyalis IPA

Okay fine, we admit it, you can’t see the Northern Lights this far south. But San Diego has its own version of Aurora Borealis, and ours has cast a hoppy spell over this city. What the rest of the world calls an IPA, San Diego locals consider pale in comparison. Aurora Hoppyalis is our San Diego-style IPA brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra hops. Robust flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, pine, and tangerine linger through a dry, crisp finish. Tonight’s forecast: clear hoppy skies.

3.7 [12oz bottle from Total Wines, Hunterton Beach, CA.] A pale amber pour with a loose white head; tropical fruit aroma; big tropical fruit taste, with a soapy body; and a sweet grapefruit aftertaste. A chewy and fruity IPA.
4.8 Karl’s best beer on tap.
3.6 On tap downtown, pours a clear gold with a little white head. Nose is West Coast all the way, grassy, pine, herbs, pith. Flavor has just a little pale grist, some yeast, soap and herbs, pith and pine. Medium bodied, bitter finish. Drinkable.
3.5 Sampled on draught. Clear yellow with a white head. Flavour of mango and papaya with lots of pine, grapefruit and freshly-mown grass. Very hoppy with quite high bitterness. Very good.
3.5 Aromas of grass, pines, lemon spruce, lemongrass citrus and hop oils. Pours gold with a lively foam. Taste is butterscotch, soap, hop oils, pines, fresh cut grass, caramel, grain malt, rustic mango and papaya. Overall, not too bad.
4.0 Los Angeles, Karl Strauss, draft. Very good and nearly perfect. Sunshiny, hoppy, crisp. Bright yellow.
4.1 Draft at the brewery in LA. Clear golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is huge hops, bright tropical, pine, grapefruit, dank. Flavor is sweet pils malt and loads of hops, bright, tasty, medium plus bitter. Medium body, drinkable. Nice.
4.0 From a Can to a Glass. Pours a clear light Amber color with a decent frothy head. Aroma is Citrusy Tropical Fruit Hops, Pineapple, Orange, Mango, slight Grapefruit, Floral notes, Caramel Malt. Taste follows the aroma well. Medium mouthfeel. Nice malt lacing rings and head retention! Great IPA!
3.5 Keg @ sbwf 2018. Poured clear golden color with a thin white head. Aroma has hay, citrus fruits, some pine. Feels slightly tired. Caramel, citrusy hops and grapefruity finish.
4.0 Citrusy and hoppy slight bitterness Cloudy Good for the price
3.5 Zesty citrus aroma. A bit of background maltiness with quite some bitterness.
4.1 Bouteille, St Aubin sur Mer, August 2018.
3.7 처음엔 파인, 텐저린, 열대과일같은 느낌 났는데 마실수록 홉향이 올라오고 쌉싸름한 느낌 애프터에 남는다 과일껍질의 쌉싸름함+홉
3.4 Draught @ Karl Strauss Brewing - Downtown, San Diego. Pours clear golden with an offwhite head. Aroma of malt, grass, citrus, lemon, grapefruit. Flavor is light bitter, malt, grassy, lighty harsh, citrus, lemon. Medium body, average carbonation, light bitter finish. 300718
3.2 Sweetness hides the bitterness, making this easy drinking and refreshing. Tropical flavours make this an interesting brew.
3.6 Fat Bishops Örebro. Orangegul vätska. Doft av citrus och melon. I smak känns barr, citruszest och bitter humle.
3.6 Pale golden with a white head - Citrus hop aroma - Malt body to support a good citrus, fruity and hints of pine hop flavour with nice bitterness - The Citrus, fruity hop flavour goes into the finish with bitterness - This was good
3.4 12 oz bottle. (Chevron) Santa Barbara, CA. Slightly cloudy golden color with a small white head. Sweet candy and fruity hops, mild bitterness, caramel maltiness and more sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is piney, resinous and citrusy hops, mild bitterness, dryness and caramel malt. Decent.
3.8 The name is awesome for a start, so well done on that. Aroma is between sweet succulent pineapple and a normal hoppy IPA. Taste is refreshing and fairly light on the palate (just had the Dogfish Head 90 day IPA , knocked my socks off). Great beer, would drink again
3.3 Fat @ Flying Scotsman Inn. Gul, disig öl med vitt skum. Doft och smak av citrus, tropiska frukter, hö och lätta tallbarrstoner.
3.6 Bottled @ Bishops Arms Hornsgatan. Hazy pale golden, lasting white head, good lacing. Quite dank aroma although I can tell it’s not super fresh, tropical fruits and resinous. Smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Bitter taste, citrus and pine, herbal and resinous. Dry and bitter finish.
3.6 It has little tropical fruits, medium to strong strong malty sweetness and medium-low biterness, which is mostly hidden by the sweetness. The liquid feels a bit heavy, but at the same time still feels refreshing. Tasty beer, but I drank it with somehow medium excitement, like it has nice execution but not a very original concept.
3.5 Tap at SD airport. Pours clear yellow. Aroma and flavor are bright tropical fruit, pale malt, toast, grapefruit, and some floral notes. Medium body
3.7 Six pack. Medium yellow pour. Nice medium aroma and flavor of citrus, pine, and tropical hops. Drinks lighter than ABV. Very similar in my opinion to Laganutis’ 12th of Never and Firestone’s Luponic Distortion #9.
3.8 On tap at Sea World. Pours pale yella, lots of carbonation and beading. Citrus, tangerine, piney aroma. Taste follows. Watery finish, light but refreshing and tasty too. Not a big fan of Karl Strauss beers usually, but this was nice.
3.8 Bottle from AEON Liquors Jiyugaoka. Pours nice golden yellow, some white foam on top. Nose is fresh, resiny hops but not heavy but realtively light feel to it. Good bitterness in taste, body is weaker but balance is nice and overall feel is dry and herbal-bitterish, still somewhat fruity too. Drink super easy and very smooth.
3.9 Golden color. Piney taste, crisp. Citrusy nose. Creamy finish. Easy to drink
