Karl Strauss Big Barrel Double IPA

Karl Strauss Big Barrel Double IPA

“To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.”

According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and they’re planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22’s.

3.0 W aromacie ciasteczkowy słód, lekki karmel, słodkie nuty chmielowe w stronę tropików. W smaku podobnie, ciasteczka, goryczka średnia, spora słodycz, likierek chmielowy. W tej formie ok.
3.9 Pite przeterminowane. Betonowa piana, zmetnione. Edit. Po wypiciu całego wali w czambo. Polecam.
3.8 Barwa pomarańczowa ze sporą, piękną pianą. Aromat cytrusowy, karmelowy, kwiatowy. Fajnie zbalansowany. W smaku owoce tropikalne, karmel, przyprawy, lekki biszkopt. Pifko cieliste z mocną, długą goryczką. Alko totalnie ukryte. Bardzo fajne pifko.
3.5 Draught at Karl Strauss, Carlsbad. Clear golden colored with a medium sized white head. Fruity aroma of caramel, hops, pine needles and resin. Fruity flavor of caramel, hops and pine needles with notes of resin. Hoppy finish.

4.2 Ruikt heerlijk hoppig. Lekker dik, zoetig. Smaakt fruitig, fris, hoppig, niet al te bitter.
3.8 Dorée sous peu de mousse, elle envahit la bouche de ses arômes houblonnés et floraux. Amertume justement masquée qui revient toutefois en bouche.
4.1 660ml bottle shared with friends. Pale golden with a medium white soapy head. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Great bitterness with nice fruity sweetness. Pine, tropical fruits, tangerine, caramel and some spices. Very good IIPA.
3.9 Strong grapefruit and guava aroma. Great flavors with a full, think body. Maybe too syrupy? But overall, quite good.

3.6 bottle@home. Pours hazy golden with medium head.very nice bitterness and alcohol well masked. Nice beer
3.9 Hazy creamsicle orange with a one-finger bright white head and very nice lace. Aroma is all about the hops - kind of citrusy up front, but more piney after a bit. Same sensation on the palate, though there is a nice balance with the malt sweetness, and the alcohol becomes evident. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, supre creamy mouthfeel and a crisply bitter finish. Big, bold and beautiful.
4.4 Aus der großen Flasche getrunken (Händlerlieferung). Golden mit satter Schaumkrone im Glas. Wunderbar mild-fruchtige Balance der Hopfennoten. Kaum Bitterness.

3.7 Bottle shared. Nice hop bite, pretty clean bitterness, loads of Nelson in there, tropical notes. Pretty solid iipa, dangerously drinkable.
3.5 650ml bottle. Hazy, orangey, pale golden colour with slightly late awakening, thick, frothy to creamy, osteoporosing, moderately lacing, white head. Intense, citrusy, piney and slightly tropical fruity hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, hints of papaya, passion fruit and mango, a sweaty touch of resin, caramel malty background. Taste is citrusy and piney hoppy, intensely puckering bitter, minimally papery, pale malty basis with an almond touch, notes of grapefruit. .

4.0 Shared bomber at Craft. Hazy golden pour with white head and copious lacing. Nose was resiny hops, tropical citrus fruit. Smooth flavor with heavy hops, piney notes, and some grapefruit and lemon throughout.
4.0 Bottle from Deconinck, Vichte - BE. Color: clear golden blond beer with small carbonation and medium white foam. Smell: resin, mango and pine hops. Very intensive hoppy nose. Taste: full body with strong hoppy attack. Pine and resin attack with fruity balance. Good attenuation. Very amazing beer, highly drinkable. Aftertaste: pine and wet bitterness. Fruity as well. Amazing!
3.7 Bottle. Shaker. Clear golden with medium, white, semi-densed head. Medicore head retention and lacing. Moderate citrus aroma with some floral notes, pretty well balanced with moderalty malty profile - caramel, bread. Taste is medium bitter, semi-dry with lighlty malty sweetness. In overall nice hoppy profile, enough malts, my bottle was little bit too oxidized. Just solid IIPA, for geeks worth checking it out.
3.7 From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Hazy orange color with off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma, caramel, bubblegum, perfume, citrusy fruity. Sweet and light bitter like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation
3.8 Dark gold pour with good sized white head. Nose of tropical fruit and pine. Flavor is rich with citrus and well balance of hops. The 9% is well hidden.
3.3 Bomber. Slightly hazy vibrant yellow-orange pour with a white head. Aroma is mild pineapple, but I’m getting just a hint of cardboard peeking through here as well. No date on the bottle, but I’d be surprised if this was very aged, as everything else I bought from this store on this day seemed quite fresh. Kind of a juicy taste, nice hop bite, fairly clean yet dry finish.
3.3 Aroma and flavor subdued pineapple and floral notes - didn’t see a date but didn’t seem terribly fresh. Still pretty bitter. Just ok with the potential to be better.
3.8 @ Best Western Elegant Gardens 16-3-7: mycket humlerik och fruktig öl med fin balans. En riktig god dipa
4.0 Bottle, thanks Eddan. Clear golden/orange with a white head. Hoppy aroma and taste of pineapple, mango and some caramel. Also grapefruit and light malt. The finish was bitter. A tasty one.
