Kasteel Donker

Kasteel Donker

Bottle

A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier.
The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy.
It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12°C (54°F) (Translation by Martinus)

4.2 Slightly sweet brown beer.
4.3 En nariz aromas a café y caramelo. En boca muy completa, afrutada, equilibrio entre caramelo y malta tostada, chocolate, regaliz y pasas. Densa y cremosa. Copa tipo abadía
3.8 330ml
2.9 Ampolla hopt. Clàssica quad belga. Correcta i bebible, però destrossada pel sucre.... Extremadament dolça. 11 graus amagats sota la dolçor... Oju!
5.0 Strong, malty, coffee taste
3.4 Sometimes you run into these brews that you already know for decades and drank often and never seem to have rated. Bottle from supermarket, pours deep dark brown with generous beige head; decent retention. Aroma is roast malts, caramel, dark fruit, raisin. Taste is over medium sweet, even brown or candy sugar. Full body, but feels less heavy than 11%. Typical Belgian quad; nice but bit too sugary for me.

4.0 This is as good as it gets as it comes as far as Belgian beers are concerned. Superb combination of flavors. Strong but delicious! Best in class! One of a kind!
4.0 Thuis uit een flesje. Donkerbruin met lichtbruin schuim. Aroma caramel, melkchocolade. Smaak caramel, zacht, maar vol. Lekker.
3.5 Herrlich cremig, unfassbar cremig. Dann dunkles Malz, Zartbitter-Schokolade, langer Abgang. Dazu Rosinen, Anfangs kurz alkoholisch, Lakritz. Lecker.
4.0 Clear brown with a good beige head. Great lacing. Aroma: Malts - caramel, brown sugar, a hintof tobacco. Dried fruits, resinous. Mouth: Sweet but with a very delicate touch of fruitiness. Medium/full body. Smooth texture
3.7 33cl bottle i got from a local Auchan store, drinking it on 14/08/2021 BB 04-2026 Pours a nice deep dark brown with dense and creamy thin beige foam on top, great lacing. Strong aroma of belgian yeast, dark malt, licorice, dried fruits, caramel, candi sugar, very nice and promising. Taste is kind of high sweet but delicious, roasted dark malts, caramel and dried fruits, some vanilla, prunes a bit sugary but quite round and warm, creamy mouthfeel and a touch of dark chocolate and very mild hops bitter in the finish, mostly quite sweet though yet really enjoyable. Sweet and pleasant aftertaste with notes of dried fruit. Medium full bodied and dense, creamy slightly sticky texture, moderate carbonation, really high 11% abv that's hidden really well in the taste but overall, the only complaint i would make here is the high sugary sweetness, that's not really bad to have but perhaps is a little too evident here. Other than that, wonderful, warm and complex taste and lots of quality, really loving this one and looking forward to try more Kasteel. Also given the expire date guess i could try a more aged one to see if i like it better compared to this young one.
3.4 Stærk mørk, en smule for sød. Smager ikke af 11%
3.6 Media pinta @ Líquidos almacén de cervezas, Zaragoza. Color marrón oscuro, espuma beige abundante y aspecto jabonoso. Aroma a caramelo dulce, melaza. Sabor dulce y licoroso, caramelo, toffee, miel.
5.0 Dolce, mielosa con retrogusto d'orzo.
4.6 Birra fantasticamente dolce
2.5 Meh.
4.3 Dark brown in colour, smells sweet and malty. Taste is chocolate, dark malt, sweet caramel, mild dark chocolate bitterness, very mild hops. A quite sweet beer but in a nice way. Reminds me of a traditional dark Belgium beer like Chimay Blue/red but with slight sweetness.
3.6 0.33 l bottle from Goblet Beer Store, Zagreb. Dark brown, medium creamy diminishing off-white head. Aroma is malty, toasty, fruity, dried fruit, raisins, prunes, molasses, some alcohol. Dried apple and rose petals. A soft touch of spice. Full, sweet, potent, strong, slightly alcoholic, slightly phenolic. A bit too sugary. Honey and malty notes. Moderate carbonation. Soft texture, moderate finish. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Good and complex, too sweet.
3.6 This is a backlog rating from years ago from a bottle purchased at Party Source, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are sweet malts, dark fruits, candi sugar, yeast, very sweet.
3.8 Deep copper colour .... large tan head .... crispy pop of bubbles .... aroma of toffee-molasses .... very sweet palate , golden syrupy , treacle-burnt malt , vanilla .... a festive mid winter beer to share : Yum ! ... finishes clean , some tartness , and a lingering burnt malt taste : Cheers .
3.5 Fles.
3.0 Bottle, 330ml. Pours very dark brown with a light grayish brown head. Body is smooth and syrupy, carbonation is medium. Tastes very sweet, with very mild but noticable bitterness and low acidity. Flavors of chocolate, dark malt, chocolate liqueur, sweet caramel, mild dark chocolate bitterness, very mild hops. Very good dessert beer, not boring or cloying despite being very sweet. Best shared.
2.7 0,3 liter bottle. It's an ok beer, but not the one that will return in my fridge.
3.6 Une bière d'hommes
3.5 Pours dark chestnut with small head. Malt, brown sugar, caramel. Full body and flat carbonation.
3.6 Colore prugna; schiuma alta, persistente. Al naso predomina il malto, in bocca caramello. Gusto morbido, avrei gradito un finale più secco. L'alcool c'è e si sente molto.
