Keegan Ales Hurricane Kitty IPA

Keegan Ales Hurricane Kitty IPA

Hurricane Kitty is a coppery and heavily hopped India Pale Ale. Named after brewmaster Keegan’s grandmother who’s driving earned her quite a reputation racing her six children to and from a local Long Island beach ferry during the 1960’s, Hurricane Kitty is the undisputed family favorite. We try to make the hop bill read as aggressively as her driving record.

3.5 The body has a dark old coppery color with lighter amber highlights and a tall off white head. The head has good retention and makes lots of delicate lacing on the glass. There is a strong sweet caramel maltiness with firm citrus and mellow piney hop notes. It has a solid medium body with a sweet malty character off set buy citrusy hops on the finish. Its sweetness is caramel like and dominates most of the flavor profile till the finish where the hops pop out, bringing with them the bitterness of an IPA. This bitterness slowly fades of the tongue well into the aftertaste.
3.2 Bottle pour. Great looking beer. Matt, ruby red with good sized head. Nose is tropical fruit at first, but quickly displaced with cider and sterile toasted malts. Taste continues the theme of pushing the hops to background. Lots of malt caramel malt characteristics. Earthy. A bit grainy, borderline watery, on palate. Eh.
3.6 Orange pour with creamy white head and lace. Large resiny hops dominate the aroma. Caramel malt, resiny hops, and just a touch of fruity esters. Followed by a nice bitter finish. Medium bodied with good carbonation. nice beer just on the edge of wow
3.5 Dark reddish amber. Not what I was expecting. Dark dank ipa. Very malty with a bitter hippy edge.
2.9 Draft at Pony Bar HK during the Hudson Valley NY tap takeover event. Not as horrible as the Super kitty imperial version, but still a very malt-focused ipa. Lots of caramel malt character dominating any semblance of hop profile there might have been. Some slick pine resin in the finish.
3.2 Keg. Pours hazy copper with a fluffy off-white head that lasts and laces. Smells of apple cider and piney, citrusy hops. Drinks smoothly with mild lingering hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Good effervescence. Tastes of wood, wet leaves, and piney hops. Solid, but weirdly balanced for an IPA.
3.5 Keg at the Ginger Man, NYC, 23/11/13. Clear amber/copper with a good sized light beige head. Nose is juicy hops, orange, light spice, grass, toasted malts. Taste comprises orange pith, mandarin, caramel, sweet notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light hop notes in the finish. Ok easy drinking IPA.
2.6 Dark copper-amber body, medium off-white head, sparse lacing. Bread, caramel, light earthy and grapefruit hop notes. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, light bitterness.
4.1 Pours a light amber. Has a strong malt and light hop aroma like an amber ale. A nice wheat and citrus/floral hops taste with a light bitter after taste that isnt overpowering.
2.9 Typical east coast ipa, citrus hops, slight herbs, balanced malt, not bad but not exciting.
3.3 Bottle. Clear dark amber body with a large rocky tan head. Sweet toasty and bready flavor with some floral hops. Sweet bready flavor, some floral hops and a nice bitter finish. Medium body with average carbonation. Standard IPA.
3.7 2 oz sample at Belmont park beer fest, solid IPA, not overly hoppy, very enjoyable brew
3.0 Bottle to pint (thanks tgncc). Looks decent; malty though. A somewhat cloudy amberish brown with ample off-white head. Smells malty first and hoppy second. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Okay beer, but an underwhelming example of the style.
3.5 The beer poured great with a nice copper color, an off white mild head and mild lacing on the glass. The beer smells decent with a grapefruit scent up front blended with toffee malts and a mild orange finish. The beer tasted decent with a nice orange, lemony blended and a caramel malt finish. The mouthfeel was average while the beer was well carbonated but the taste was funky, almost skunky. Overall, the beer was decent but just had some weird combinations that I dont think mixed well together.
3.8 12 ounce bottle pours a slight hazy golden copper color with white fluffy head. A decent piney hop aroma but nothing extraordinary. Very highly carbonated a nice malt to hops balance. A bit sour on the end. Overall a pretty solid I PA. Happy IPA day!
3.1 On tap. Pours a clear copper color with a creamy white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, and a bit lemony. Taste mimics the nose. Decent balance between the bitter hops and the malt.
2.9 Bottle. Pours amber brown with white head. Nose and taste of dried grapefruit rind, caramel malt, resin and barley. Medium bodied.
3.6 On tap. Nice hoppy aroma, rich flavor and decent balance. Pretty nice, don't know why the low ratings
2.9 Hazy amber color out of the bottle with a thin fizzy off white head. Floral hop nose with some citrus notes. There is some caramel sweetness but mostly just raw hop pellet bitterness. Lots of hop resin with some stale fruit and dusty grapefruit rind in the finish. Not as well balanced as I like.
3.4 Poured from bottle. Aroma of hops, malt and brownies. Amber, lacing tan head. Citrus and grassy hops dominate, creamy malt in back. Slightly metallic aftertaste. Nut, caramel and raisin notes. Not outstanding, but pretty good.
3.5 Drank from the bottle. Aroma is fruity with a touch of malt. The taste is basically the same, not a bad ipa. Unremarkable but satisfying nonetheless.
3.4 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Darien, CT. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of caramel and toffee with herbal, minty hops and a bit of melon. The taste is caramel malts, floral hops, and a bit of toastiness. Mildly lingering bitterness, medium bodied. Decent.
2.8 Pours amber with a dissipating white head and toasty aroma of caramel and hops. Taste is toasty, of hops, floral notes, caramel, and malt with a bitter finish. Solid IPA
2.7 Pours a hazy orange pour. Nose is caramel, hints of vanilla and hoppy. Taste is sweet citrus with some moderate bitterness. Finish is dry, and bitter with soft carbonation. An average IPA. Quaff Score 6 / 10
3.1 Pours deep amber into a shaker. White head recedes leaving spot lacing. Sour caramel aromas. Sour bitter apple pith and caramel. Not very well balanced.
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Clear honey golden with a big off white head that has good retention. A nice aroma of pine and caramel. A bit of breadiness. There are pine and citrus flavors with some herbal notes. Caramel adds sweetness. Some bready yeast is tasted. There is a dry bitterness. This is different.
3.0 Weird. Pours red and thin head. Yet a thick beer. Bitter and malty taste. Seems kinda strong. Not very good
3.2 Clear copper-amber pour with a medium white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, earthy malt and fruit. Medium body with flavors of herbal hops, malt and a bit of grapefruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
3.1 Tap in the Ginger Man, NYC with Paul. Mid amber coloured beer. More malt than some IPAs over here, then long dry bitter finish. Hop flavour here is mostly earthy, a little tiny bit of grapefruit and perhaps a touch metallic. Drinks well. Not bad.
2.6 12 oz bottle. Got this is a beer of the month club. Pours a light effervescent copper color with a small thin off-white head. Smells of light citrus, malt, hops, maybe some dried fruits, and what I think is a metallic smell (though I hope not). Taste is some dried fruit, over-powering (unbalanced amount of) hops, and that same metallic taste on the after-taste. Funky flavors, not really what I consider an IPA to be. Had much better IPAs.
