4.0 Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Roasted, chocolate, mint aromas. Flavor is chocolate, roasted and malt, one of the better mint chocolate beers I’ve had.
4.1 Very dark brown body with thick khaki head. Nice lacing. Minty, dark chocolate & roast malt aromas. Bittersweet dark chocolate, mint flavors remind me of a hotel pillow mint. Excellent.
3.8 Purchased 2012. Pours a deep black with a razor thin tan head. Has a rich chocolate dark roasted caramel malt nose, with some dark fruity notes and slight licorice sweet bitter flavor on the end. The palate is a full rich creamy body with good carbonation, a bit of sticky mouth feel. The finish is sweet chocolate, roasted caramel malt, some mild mint flavor shows up as it warms up, has a lingering kind of sweet chocolate roasted bitterness on the end. Was expecting a bit more mint but could be the aging. Overall a good drinking tasty and full flavored brew.
3.6 Very black, not quite as much mint as I expected, plenty of chocolate though.
3.2 (Backlog) On tap. The look is black in color, dark, and has a tan head. The smell is minty, chocolate, cookies, alcohol, roast, and raisins. The taste is sweet, artificial, minty, and eh.
4.1 12oz bottle courtesy of DrSilverworm. Thanks! Deep black body, rusty beige head that fades out a little, but still laces the glass quite well. Really pleasant aroma, doughy cocoa chocolate. The mint is there but it is pretty easy going, which is quite refreshing, to see a new uniquely flavored beer come out and not go overboard with the ingredient showcased. The mint chocolate really works here..quite balanced. Quite a fantastic beer. Quality ingredients fully utilized, expertly brewed. The alcohol is perfectly masked or incorporated...this goes down quite easy....but it is bold enough that you know it is big.
3.5 Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, one centimetre tall deep brown head. Aroma of strong mint, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, anise and quite a bit of earth and vanilla - fairly nice and sweet smelling. Full-bodied; Rich, roasted malt flavours with heaps of alcohol, mushrooms, soy sauce and earthy flavours with some deep mint, a little sweetness and a touch of anise and spices. Aftertaste shows a lot of bitterness, ranging from the anise and the coffee with some roasted malt and a bunch of alcohol and oak. Overall, a decent beer - but perhaps too strong and too funky of a taste. Not horribly harsh, but not smooth either - even after 13 months. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fairfax, Virginia on 03-November-2012 for US$3.99 sampled at home in Washington a day before returning to the West Coast on 12-December-2013.
3.8 Bottle thanks to Will, cheers! Pours a nearly black color, some ruddy edges, with a medium off-white head. The aroma is light mint, chocolates and toasted malts. The flavor is more mint chocolate candies, Andies I think they are called, some fresh coffee, maybe a hint of oxidation (which I like). Quite good.
3.9 Pours pitch black with a great creamy tanned head. Aroma.is roasted malty fruity dark fruits molassis. Flavor is as aroma;very pkeasant snooth balanced and.nive pwpppermint.Nd.bitter touch
3.2 Bottle at "Darkness comes to town", 131116. Black beer with a nice beige head. Mint aroma, roasted, caramel, chocolate, toffee, cookies. Mint flavor, chocolate, cocoa. Too much mint. It kinda kills the rest of the beer.
3.9 12oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee notes, mint, and dough and a light bitterness. Flavor the same with a nice chocolate, imperial stout up front with a nice minty, chocolatey finish. Smooth texture. A good imperial stout with the mint and chocolate adding to it rather than taking away from it.
4.5 A: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light, Thick Brown Head, Some Lacing S: Mint, Chocolate, Dark Mildly Roasted Malts T: Chocolate, Dark Malts, Mildly Minty M: Decent Carbonation, Medium To Full Bodied, Rich, Full, Minty Dryness Overall, pretty dead nuts on, themouthfeel tastes exactly like after having spearmint oil, solid.
3.9 Bottle thanks to Joey. Pours a dark brown with thick creamy beige head thats lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong dark chocolate and faint mint. Thick mouthfeel with bitter chocolate and lingering mint flavor. Very good.
3.0 Tap. The look is black in color, dark, and has a tan head. The smell is minty, chocolate, cookies, alcohol, roast, and raisins. The taste is sweet, artificial, minty, and eh.
3.6 28th October 2012 Opaque black beer, big pale tan head. Palate is smooth and soft and a little dry. Rich dark malts, touch of roast. Unsweet dark chocolate. Slightly bitter dark malt note. The mint is well judged and provides a counterpoint for the robust malt. Finishes dry with more dark malt roast, bitterness and coffee. Different.
4.2 12oz bottle. Whoa, super mint chocolatey. Like a high quality mint chocolate bar. Not sweet, roasty, and tasty.
3.9 Bottle from my secret santa. Thank you joeneugs! Pours pitch black with a dark chocolate brown head that is prettyy quick to dissipate while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is slightly sweet and malty with heavily roasted malts, after eight (mint chocolate), dark roast coffee, caramel, cocoa powder, bitter chocolate, peppermint oil, liquorice fudge, charred wood and dark chocolate brownies. Taste is sweet, heavy bitter and malty with heavily roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, after dinner mints, moist soil, charred wood, liquorice fudge, caramel, burnt cookies, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, resin, alcohol and cocoa powder. Mouthfeel is slightly round, slightly bitter astringent, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, after eight (mint chocolate), charred wood, caramel, toffee, dark chocolate brownies, chocolate chip cookies, resin, fudge and subtle hints of citrus zest. Nice but a bit over the top with the heavy bitter roast.
3.7 12oz bottle .. age seems to have calmed this down nicely .. . pours a deep brown .. mild foam, lacing spots were good .. . mild mint, tar, and deepened grains .. . light mouth, slick finish .. . . Is it called NASCAR because that’s the way a hillbilly pronounces "nice car?"
4.1 On tap at Aces and Ales Stone Domination. Chocolate and mint are the toast of this big stout. Mint is an excellent finish for the palate and a great combination for the stout.
4.0 Thanks to Hunter or Glenn for the share at Berliner Bash, poured a blaxk color with aromas of light earth, chocolate and mint. Flavors were mint and chocolate, sort of a light version of a thin mint not ocerly minty or overly chocolaty, a solid beer. Thanks for sharing this one.
3.9 Bottle. This was an interesting beer. I am not much of a fan of mint but i wanted to try it. Black pour with an awesome mint smell to it. Sweet chocolate taste with a cooling mint finish. Too bad it does not taste as good as it smells..
3.6 Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours black with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has kind of a thin mint cookie note with sweet chocolate and a good amount of mint. Flavor has bitter chocolate throughout with a touch of roasted malts and a growing mint note through the finish.
3.7 12oz bottle. Rating #239. Dark black pour with a brown head. Sweet milk and mint aroma with some light chocolate. Big flavor, chocolate milk with mint ice cream, pretty damn good. (2745)
3.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Ariel. Black opaque with dark tan head. Mint chocolate like After-Eight and a little burning aroma. Tastes very chocolatey, minty and fun. Full-bodied, smooth, mild carbonation and chocolate finish.
3.7 Bottle. Poured black with a dark tan head. Aromas of mint and dark chocolate very warming slightly boozy. Bitter dark choco taste with light mint. Slight carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
3.5 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Ariel. Pours opaque black with a beige head, aroma of coffee, soy and mint, flavor of mint, coffee and chocolate, medium to full bodied
3.5 Bottle at Papsø. Black coloured with a small beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of dark chocolate with notes of mint. Sweet and roasted flavour of dark chocolate and mint with notes of hops. Hoppy finish of mint.
3.8 Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Dense light brown head. Aroma: Mint, cocoa, sweetness, light roast. Flavour: Mint, chocolate, roast, coffee. Medium to full bodied. Ends sweet and roasted bitter. Special but nice.
4.0 Deep black with a thin fading beige head. Nose of semi sweet dark chocolate and a light mintiness with a bit of cocoa biscuit. Flavor was deep and overly sweet. Nice biscuity cocoa tones with a light and very-not overpowering mint tone. Like a Girl Scout cookie but slightly less minty.
3.8 Bottle, 38 cl. Black with a decent lasting beige head. Aroma is mint and chocolate not unlike After Eight, roasted malt. Taste is medium sweet, minty, berries and roasted bitter. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Lingering, off dry finish with lots of minty notes.
