3.1 Amber colour with a large creamy off-white head. Aroma: yeast, brown sugar, banana esters, some wheat, some orange. Hint of alcohol. Taste: melt, yeast, hops, some grassy notes, sugar. Hoppy bitterness in the bottom, sweet on top. A little unbalanced.
2.5 Mkt bubbelgum. sött. Aprikos. Lite röda bär i arom. Beskt. Obalanserat.
3.2 2 finger white head, amber body. Nose: Candy sugar, yeast, oranges, white bread, white pepper and funk. Taste: Candy sugar, oranges, funk, yeast, white bread, bubblegum and white pepper. Long, semi-bitter ending.
3.6 Bottle at Le Bier Circus, Brussels on 4th February 2022. Pours clear coppery amber with a thick off-white foam and full lacing. Richly herby, spicy aroma. Tart citrus in-mouth, just a hint of apple and tart mixed fruits, and a finish of spiced fruits and hints of aniseed. Full bodied with a smooth yet engaging texture.
2.7 Golden, slightly hazy, with a thick white head. Yeasty aroma. Taste is not at all as hoppy as the name indicates. A little grain and yeast, mild bitterness.
3.5 Tasting at Det Bette Ølhus. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma: Floral hops, caramel and honey. Taste: Sweet with medium bitterness
3.3 0,33l bottle from belgiuminabox. Pours clear deep golden with medium sized white head. Citrus, bit of tropical fruits, yeast and malt. Dryish and bitter.
3.1 Flesje gedeeld door B. Goudgeel helder bier, flink schuimend tijdens inschenken. Vreemd aroma van rookworst of zo. Smaak is zoet, fruitig en hoppig. Nasmaak is ook hoppig.
3.1 Dunkles leicht trübes gelb, schöner schaum, im Geruch leicht fruchtig malzig kräuterig, im Geschmack kurz frisch fruchtig dann kräftig kräuterig herb leicht Hefe irgendwie nicht ganz rund aber schon ok
3.1 Bottle. Color cloudy orange with small white head. Aroma hoppy, dry, malt, bread, some caramel. Taste sweet, malt, caramel, some hops.
3.9 1, 2, 3 ...6, 7 houblons !
3.6 hazy dark golden colour, large dense off-white head; aroma of floral and fruity notes, some honeycomb toffee and biscuits; bittersweet taste with marmalade, honey and alcohol; good one
2.8 Bottle off Phil D, April 2017. Cheers! Aroma of mellow sappy resins, dandelion, grass and mint. Initial TCP flavour- possibly my fault for juggling and near-freezing the bottle, although it didn't appear to contain any sediment. Gauzy blonde with a fine sift of haze. Again, probably my fault. 10 years ago this level of bitterness from a Belgian beer would have been noteworthy, now it's just another beer, even in Belgium. Grassy mellow hop notes bullied by rubbery strong lager booze and almond. Nougat and pine sap in there. On balance something of a strong lager with the bitterness ratcheted up to 11.
3.4 F: big, egg-white, good retention. C: deep gold, bit hazy. A: malty, orange and tangerine in sweet way, bit mixed mellow tropical fruits. T: malty, bit honey, orange, tangerine, mellow fruity, caramel, prominent bitterness on the palate, Belgium version of IPA style, nothing very special too sweet but enjoyable enough, medium to full body, medium carbonation, 33cl bottle from Bierwinkel De Hopduvel in Gent.
2.9 Bit unclear, golden colored, medium white frothy head. Aroma is of malt, caramel, some fruity notes, bit herbal and spicy, yeast. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, fruity, herbal and spicy, yeasty phenols, medium bitterness, not really hoppy or that fresh. Medium bodied, soft+ carbonation. Does not appeal. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)
3.3 Bottle @ No5, DØE tasting. Clear dark golden with a white head. Aroma medium malty (bread) and hoppy (spicy, floral). Flavor light sweet and spicy, medium bitter, increasing, ending almost metallic. Medium body, lively carbonated.
3.1 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ W. van Schaik, Culemborg. Hazy dark golden with a white head. Yeasty fruity and hoppy aroma. Sweet taste with some hopbitterness. Typical hopped up Belgian blonde instead of an U.S. IPA but still tasty.
3.5 Orange beer with a small white head. Aroma with fruit and hops. Smooth and slightly bitter flavour. (Bottle 33cl)
3.5 Extra hoppy blonde from a traditional Limburg brewery that did 'hoppy' before it was fashionable in Belgium, with their Bink Blond being a kind of forerunner of the hop forward movement that has swept the entire globe now. Thanks to Christine for the bottle! Medium thick, very regular, off-white, lightly lacing, moussy head slowly showing a few gaps here and there in the middle, resting atop an initially near-clear, deep and warm amberish hued orange blonde beer with strings of visible fizz; turns hazy and deeper amber with sediment, including some dark, dead yeast bits at the very bottom. Aroma of baked banana, warm toast, dried mandarin peel and fresh orange zest, peanuts, dried apricot, sweetclover, freshly grated ginger, fried tomatoes, marmelade, gin, hints of melting powder sugar, bread crumbs, cherry tree sap, honey, sugarloaf, dried apple mint leaves, pear peel, chicken stock cubes - smells like it is a bit past its prime, in 'IPA' terms at least. Sweet onset, lots of mandarin, baked banana and a dash of dried papaja, light sourish undercurrent and even a very subtle olive-like umami touch, residual sugariness nevertheless dominates and accompanies the rest of the palate, over a medium carbonated, slick but full, caramelly and lightly (pea)nutty maltiness, with sweet remaining the main factor yet acquiring a very soft toasty-bitterish edge towards the end. From the middle section onwards, this malt and sugar sweetness is drenched in a growing hop bitter force, with floral, mildly zesty and grapefruity notes retronasally as well as a resiny, tonic water-like, late but effective bitterness on the root of the tongue; some gin-like alcohol warmth takes over in the very end, but the caramelly and honeyish sugary sweetness goes down along with it. Vaguely reminiscent of Troubadour Magma and the like, mixing Belgian estery banana, honeyish, residual sugar sweetness and slick caramelly malt sweetness with a generous dosis of hop bitterness (seven different varieties in this case, though sadly the label fails to mention which ones), lingering in the back of the mouth in a very resinous, bitter herb-like way and drenched a bit in booze. This is a combination you'll love or hate, but generally speaking, this is a juicy, 'full' kind of beer, lacking a bit in refinement and being rather unaware of what IPA is all about, but within the "Belgian IPA" context (which one can regard either as a failure in trying to produce IPA, or as a compromise between Belgian and Anglo-Saxon brewing trends), this performs quite well, actually. Too bad the bottle was already too old: I'm assuming a younger one has more lively and refreshing orange aromas to offer, as is the case with Troubadour Magma, which this beer is quite similar to. Glad I finally had it but next time, I want to encounter this either from tap or from a young bottle.
