Kerkomse Tripel

Kerkomse Tripel

Traditional Belgian Golden Ale. Brewed and Bottled at De Proefbrouwerij, Lochristi, Belgium. The homey little farmhouse brewery at Kerkom is one of the greatest breweries in the world, and hardly anyone outside of Belgium knows it. We brought you Kerkom’s Bink Blond – a wonderfully hoppy and characterful beer, one of our all-time favorites, and one you should be drinking every single day – but it hasn’t even made a blip on the radar over here. It’s because of those little bottles, and the fact that the beer isn’t even 6% alcohol, isn’t it? Then we begged you to notice the little bottles of Bink Bloesem, an incredibly rich and flavorful, but perfectly dry strong amber ale made with pear juice and honey, and Winterkoninkske, a hearty, dark, and unusual strong winter ale with just a hint of very unusual spices, and still, no action on the shelf. Now, it’s really time to focus people! Here at last is Bink Tripel. Look, it’s a big bottle! Not so easy to misplace. And people are saying already that Bink is the best Tripel of Belgium – earthy, deep, complex, but light in color and on the palate, as befits the style, and it packs a very healthy wallop of whole fresh hop aroma. The Kerkom brewery is a shrine to the noble hop, and the brewer, Marc Limet, is the guardian of the eternal flame at a time when most Belgian breweries have forgotten that hops ever existed. So it is no surprise that this beer is purported to be the hoppiest of Tripels. Actually, Bink Tripel isn’t quite hoppy enough for us – not yet. But since things only get hoppier and hoppier at Kerkom as time goes by, we are content to drink, and wait. As Marc says, it’s getting better all the time . . .

3.0 Dark golden with medium head. Musty hop aroma and taste, watery finish. Grainy tripel taste.
3.6 Tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, 29/09/13, as Bink Tripel. Lightly hazed golden with a big off white head that thins then retains. Nose is cereals, bitter orange, bready malt, grassy. Taste comprises caramel, toasted malts, dark fruits, tarte apricot, orange. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, balanced finish. Decent tripel, not overly sweet and cloying making for an easy drinking affair, the alcohol is well disguised.
3.3 On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Hazy gold. Very drinkable for a 9% beer. Dryish. Ok
3.5 Bottle at Brouwerij Kerkom. Clear goldblond coloured beer with medium white head and no carbonation visible. Hoppy fruited aroma. Medium sparkling palate. Finish is hopped bitter sweet. Nice!
3.3 Blonde dorée légèrement trouble, quasi pas d’effervescence (ni à l’œil, ni au palais), col blanc moyen. Amertume houblonnée assez présente, goût de fruits jaunes, caramel et épices. Alcool un peu trop présent...
2.0 Bottled as Bink Tripel @ aftertasting of the RBESG’13 Grand Tasting @ trainstation Den Bosch: Served in a Molen taster: Medium sized, pretty vast and slowly changing white fiamy head on top of a cloudy yellow colored beer. Aromas of grains, some hop fruit tones like citrus, cream, light vanilla, flowers and some card board. Flavours of spices, alcohol, alcohol drenched fruits, some hops, dirty malts, clay, flowers, warmth, bit liquor strength... Don’t like it. Aftertaste is warm, porridge, hay and grains, spices, dirty malts, unbalanced. Low carbo, creamy light spicy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture. Unbalanced warm mess... Niet te hachelen!
2.8 Bottle @ RBESG grand (after) tasting. Clear yellow to orange color with small yeast particles in it, small white head. Smell malts, some typically tripel fruityness of orangepeel and some alcohol. Too highly carbonated, medium body. Another tripel like so many others.
3.5 Golden amber in colour. Has a fruity, pear like aroma which is very pleasant and clean. The palate has a dry, biscuit malt flavour with good bitterness and a long finish. A very drinkable and flavourful tripel.
3.3 Zoet voor een tripel te zijn, beetje fruitige ondertoon. In balans en lange bitter zoete nasmaak.
3.7 33 cl bottle. Originally rated on 20101220. Pours copper color with a medium head. Aroma of fruits, toffee and malts. Flavor is the same with some yeast and mild spice notes. Good and balanced brew.
3.5 Tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas as Bink Tripel. Pale yellow gold. Have to say the Bink glass I’m not a huge fan of. Quite a funky hoppy tripel with quite a yeast character and some grain on the palate. Hop character is herbal and almst spicy. There’s a taste of something here (not unpleasant) I can’t quite lay my finger on.
3.4 Bottle (75 cl) from belgianbeershop.be. Clear deep golden, medium white head. Bready malt aroma with some fruity pear esters, floral hops, and a touch of alcohol. Meidum bodied, medium carbonation. Semi dry, medium bitterness.
3.3 75 cl bottle thanks to ekstedt! Sampled on February 6, 2013. BB 20.06.16. Hazy honey color, white head. Sweet, citrus scent. Sweet, sugary, yeast, bitter taste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.
3.3 Big bottle from ekstedt cons 2013-02-06 Göteborg Labeled Bink Triple AR: yeasty, heavy caramel, alcholic AP: wee hazy, brodern, wee white head F: fizzy, caramel, heavy warming almost alcholic, marzipan,
3.3 Draft @ de Paas. Pours a hazy golden beer with a decent amount of white foam. Aroma is yeasty and slight fruity. Flavor is very alcoholic, boozy and sweet. Gets better as it warms up, but I’m not very enthusiastic.
2.4 Pours an apple juice color with aroma of banana and cloves. Taste is mildly spicy with a good bitter aftertaste. A decent tripel that is crisp with a decent aftertaste. Overall a good beer for the style.
3.0 After struggling with the cork for some minutes, I poured a hazy and bubbly orange brown body with quickly disappearing grey head. Champagne, clean yeast, apples and wheat. Bit disappointing. Taste is more pronounced, quite sharp sweetness with classic hops to backup and loads of carbonation to dim things down. A real alcohol warmth as well. Very Belgian and not bad but is all this carbonation and alcohol really needed to make a good tripel? No, it isn’t.
3.6 750 ml bottle as Bink Tripel. Kaisla, Helsinki, Finland. Hazy golden colour with tiny white head. Belgian yeast, hops, caramel and dryness in aroma. Flavour is yeast, sweetness, malt, hops and caramel. Tasty Tripel.
3.5 Draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu as ”Bink Tripel”. Rated on 21.12.2010 Aroma is somewhat fruity with some soapy citrus typical to tripels. Flavour is slightly tart with soapy citrus, some apricot and hints of warming alcohol. A tripel easy to forget. 75 cl bottle vintage 2005 @ Pikkulintu Aroma has apricot, some cardboard and caramel. Old feeling here. Flavour has caramel, toffee, apricot and slight cardboardy notes. Around 3.5 still.
4.1 On draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours a slightly hazy light golden colour with a decent white head. Pine and grass hop aromas with lemon, caramel and alcohol also. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a chewy mouth-feel. Lovely with moderate bitterness and a great dry finish.
2.4 750ml bottle. Pours a deep, somewhat dull, straw, white head. Spicy, somewhat musky aroma, yeast, malt, earth, hops, citrus. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Robust taste, lots of earthy, yeasty notes, malt, citrusy hops, very rustique. (2012-02-28)
3.5 Bottle@Kaisla. Cloudy golden color, white head. White wine aroma. Smooth flavor, fruity and hoppy finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Nice. Surprisingly drinkable.
2.4 Had this under the label Bink Tripel. The nose is excellent. On opening the bottle, I thought, here comes a top of the line Abbey Tripel, the pour showed very little head, but the body was cloudy, which can mean character. Alas and alack, the taste was a let down for me. Very nowhere. I finished it, but there was no flavor, no head, only the nose.
3.1 75cl bottle @Kaisla, Helsinki, labeled Bink Tripel. Poured hazy orange with a thin white head. Arom had earthyness, light spicyness and hops. Flavor had hops, earth and light fruityness. Very dry finish. Good balance but overall quite a dull beer.
3.3 Sampled at an esbls . I brought it. A light tea colored beer that has no head. A sweet fruity caramel nose. The flavor is not as nice as the nose. Cooked brown sugar, complex fruit, and alcohol. Very sweet. Kind of disappointing.
3.4 75cl bottle. Yellow/golden clear and slightly hazy liquid. Small to medium white head. Nose : tart, honey and flower aromas. Fruity notes. Sip : Low carbonation and low to medium density liquid. Medium sweet that develops little sour and medium bitter end. Tart taste along the way. Overall : nothing special unless you like tart taste about it. It has more hops then a regular tart lovers beer but not enough to be a refreshment. The alcohol is well hidden so be careful. Extra points for creamy texture and woody aftertaste.
3.5 Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, huge white head. Aroma is fruity, spicy and malty with a hint of alcohol. Flavor is spicy fruits, a bit chemical and quite harsh, but also quite interesting. Nice brew.
3.6 Bottle @ home. Aroma is fruity hops, some malt and yeast. Flavour is fruity malty tripel. Good tripel.
3.8 (750 ml ("Bink Tripel") from Oak Street Provisions) Cloudy golden-amber. Aroma of fruit, caramel, yeast and spice. Mouthfeel smooth and thick. Flavor of fruit, caramel and light spice. Even a little smokey. Very malty - caramel, and smoke, and nicely boozy. Very good..
3.9 On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Bruxelles. Cloudy golden one with a delicious foamy white head. Fruity aroma with peach and honey, fine cereals, flowers and the bees, caramel. The flowers come again in the flawor, acacia-honey and grains, green leaves because of hops. The light bitterness gets more power in the aftertaste. Really interesting...
