4.5 This beer is very good. You can tast this beer at gent in a beautifull pub.
3.5 Tap@waterhuisaandebierkant. Pours hazy amber with beige head. Aroma is fruity and malty with caramel and dried fruits. Taste is complex with ripe fruits, caramel and dark malts. Finish is semi-sweet and hides the 11 pct well bit leaves you warm.
3.8 On tap at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, Gent, march 13th 2015. Brown body with a solid white head. Aroma of burned caramel, canned pears, clove and banana. Taste is fruity, sweet, mild alcohol notes, with a spicy yeast and caramel aftertaste. Pretty good.
3.5 On tap at Brasserie Beck, DC. Nice orange body with huge head. Nose is malty and alcy, Strong stuff. Taste is malty, caramel, yeasty. Very smooth and well balanced. Warming finish.
3.6 Deep amber to ruby colored, unclear, medium off white head, good lasting. Aroma is of caramel malt, brewing sugar, decent amount of fruit, some spices and a touch of alcohol. Taste is medium+ sweet brown sugar, caramel, dark fruits, spicy yeasty, low+ bitterness, bittersweet finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. Alcohol well hidden and not that sugary sweet as expected.
3.8 Tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, Gent. Hazy orange shade. Big white head. Lots of orange peel fruitiness and spicy yeast-driven flavour. Definitely a big beer but goes down easy. Impressive drinkability and thankfully not too sweet. This one seems to polarise opinion but I like it.
3.4 Draft at Khyber Pass. Hazy dark orange amber pour with a large lasting creamy head. Modestly full distinctive Belium caramel bread flavors up front that finish ridiculously smooth. The 11% ABV is extremely well hidden. Feels like a ghost at the end - until minutes later when the alcohol gently numbs the tongue. Simple notes extraordinarily executed.
3.1 Clear amber liquid, large head. Weak, sweet aroma. Heavy body, little carbonation. Taste is sweet and heavy.
3.6 On tap in Gent. Sweet grapes candy tatste. Rich and flavourful . Orange body. Nice beer.
3.5 A nice light Amber colour. Aromas of sweet corn, butter, citrus. Bitter citrus and sweet Belgian malt flavours. pretty good.
4.0 On tap at "na 7.schode", Zilina. Pours is amber clear with small persistent cream white head. Aroma of caramel, toasty and fruity, some spices and banana. Taste is sweet, hints of bittery, fruity. Full body, oily texture.
3.0 Tasted alongside the other housebeers at Waterhuis in Ghent. This one fell short for me. Pours murky Amber with a cream head. Quite a lot of sweetness and booze. Didn’t work for me. Usually I like my Belgian beers to pack a punch but this didn’t really come together. IT did have some fairly dramatic competition though.
3.6 (tap 0,3l @ OP (Brno)) Aroma: Spicy, yeasty, fruity. Appearance: Cloudy, dark golden color. Minimal, white head. Taste: Sweet, fruity, spicy, alcohol. Palate: Medium-full body. Spicy, alcohol warm finish. Overall: Strong spicy belgian.
4.3 Draft at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Lovely strong ale! Very sweet, almost honey, amber color, light aroma and a pleasant warmth in the finish. 1 of the best in style!
4.6 My favorite beer, tried it bottled and on draft at Waterhuis an der beer kant. I prefer it on draft, easy to drink, a bit like a cocktail or a good rhum, even goes well with cigars, a bit upsetting to some because it does not follow regular paterns, it to ligth colored compared to most "real belgium beer" with an high ABV, its to dark to be just another "high alcohol beer". The taste does not stay very long but that just makes you want to have more.....
2.8 Draft at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Pours pinkish amber brown with an off white head. Aroma of malt, dough, caramel, toffee and some overripe dark fruit. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Too strong and too sweet.
3.1 Poured a medium reddish brown with a dense tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, roast malt. Heavy body, heading towards a Barley Wine. Flavour is heavily sweet, lots of dark fruit in the mix. Not bad, but a bit heavy going really.
2.7 On tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Clear amber-brown pour with white head. Aroma is really malty, flour-ish, raisins, doughy, caramel. Taste is sweet, doughy, malty, boozy, a bit messy. Palate is full, rich and sweet. Not bad, but I don’t have the patience for these booze bombs.
4.1 Ruikt kruidig. Heel dik schuim. Smaakt vol, prima carbo, zoet, zwaar 11% lekker! In Gentse bier kroeg.
3.1 On tap @Waterhuis a/d Bierkant, 08/2014. Luminous dark amber pour with stable clearing station foam. Inexpressive aromas of sugary honey and rich malts, no fumes whatsoever. Taste is made up of variations of regular supermarket and liquid, pancake honey variations with shy fruit syrup notes. Still no trace of alcohol, easy insidious sipping, another Van Steenberge old school Flemish masterpiece in masking 10+ alcohol, with little surplus payoff in taste or complexity.
3.5 Belgian-style barley wine made for the Waterhuis aan de Bierkant in Ghent and named after a locally well-known folk song. Off-white, creamy and surprisingly stable head (in relation to its strength); deep copper colour, warm and clear. Sweet caramel malts, nicely adorned with accents of pear brandy, whisky, chocolate, flowers, bread, honey and candi sugar. Sweet honeyish and caramelly malts, vivid fruitiness, smooth, mild floral hoppiness in the finish with warming alcohol without turning astringent. A lot better than what I’m used to from Van Steenberge - but then, barley wines are my weak spot anyway.
4.1 Een heel lekker bier met een heel bijzondere smaak. Aan te raden om eens te proberen
4.3 This beer is the the sniper. All the abv no high abv flavors. Pour is medium amber with a thick medium off white. Aroma is metallic and just ok. When you drink this beer you will love it. Everything you want butterscotch, caramel, citrus and yeast. A must try beer.
2.5 (draught) pours a clear amber-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of earth, treebark, some brown sugar, bubble gum, caramel and light alcohol. flavour is heavy cardboard, with some walnuts, roasted wheat and a light-bitter herbal-hoppy finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.
3.8 Dark amber colour. Aroma has candy-like sweetness. Flavour is sweet, bready, yeasty. Alcoholic, warming, rich, smooth.
3.3 Tasted in Bierkant in Gent on draught. Never really liked it, last time I took 2 of them and felt it quite lot on the next day. The colour is nice. Nice foam. Alcohol straight is clearly high, but not too intrusive. The taste is nor the best for me. Too belgian and too sweet
3.6 Tap @ Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Big malty aroma and taste, caramel, a little sourness and a firm alcohol punch.
3.6 Draft at craft ale house. Pours clear orange with a medium sized white head. The aroma is full of bananas, sweetness. The taste is very sweet, very caramel, malty, sweet finish.
3.0 Rated on 11-25-2009 at JK O’Donnell’s Irish Ale House (Fort Wayne, IN). This draft beer forms a small beige head with a short retention, transparent body, no visible carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. This beer’s Aroma is malt, yeast, fruity, and some sourness. The Taste is quite sweet, malty, sour, fruity, and citrus. This beer has a short dry finish. The Palate is somewhat bubbly and this beer is medium bodied. In conclusion, this beer certainly takes a different stand for the Aroma and Taste given this beer’s style. It somewhat reminded me of a Cider than a Belgian Strong beer. It just did not give me any good WOW factor(s) to leave me wanting this beer again.
3.2 Draft @ Het Waterhuis ann der Bierkant, Ghent. Pours clear dark amber with a small creamy head. Dark fruit, yeast, caramel and alcohol. Sweet, syrupy and sticky. Warming alcohol. Heavy
