König Ludwig Dunkel

König Ludwig Dunkel

A cool-fermented dark lager, which is manufactured to a traditional Bavarian brewing procedure.

Note: Also brewed at Kaltenberg Adria in Croatia.

3.0 Gylden brun klar med beige skum. Lukter maltekstrakt, karamell og noe røyk. Lett. Smaker mørkt brød, sirup and korn. Kort.
3.8 Mysterious dark ruby-red in the pour, decent head, beer possibly over-chilled in freezer... Rich malty aromas, liquorice, berries. Nice initial roasty, coffee bitter blended into a sweet fruity malty - balanced mid and after taste, initially pleasant but over a bottle, let's see. Blend of malts, Yes I like this! Creamy, medium carb, pleasant. Really good darkish beer! TBH I thought it was a dark weizen wheat beer...
3.5 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a murky brown with moderate sized beige head, nice retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, raisins, light roast, hay, spice. Solid. Taste is sweet malts, light roast, chocolate, raisins, fruity tang, grassy bitterness in the finish. Light bodied, light oiliness, slick. Good Dunkel.
3.0 Opaque brown, almost black. With a slightly off white moderate head. Aroma: Malt: Tobacco, caramel, hay. A hint of hoppy citrus. Mouth: Restrained - a bit of sweetness, a bit of acidity, a bit of bitterness. Burnt notes/bitterness more pronounced towards the end. Medium body, low/medium carbonation.
3.1 Bottle from Edeka Hamburg Rindermarkthalle - dark brown color, white head. Standard dunkel with some dark malts, bit roasted, medium sweet. Okay.
3.5 Para ser negra de 0,5 no esta mal
3.2 Bottle. Clear dark brown color, beige frothy head. Grassy, metallic aroma. Dry, medium to high bitter taste. Acrid roasty, light nutty aftertaste. Full body, medium carbonation.
3.2 Lager oscura alemana. Cuerpo medio. En general agradable. No esta mal.
2.9 A commercial Dark Lager. Clear brown color, with an abundant and long lasting white head. The aroma is quite simple, as it has scents of toasted cereals and hay. The taste is characterized by flavors of dark bread, toasted cereals and cane sugar, with a light roasted-herabaceous final bitterness. The body is quite light, with an average carbonation and a adequate alcohol. In the end, a pleasantly refreshing beer, certainly not exciting but not bad either.
3.2 Delikatne, przyjemne piwo w stylu. Bez goryczki aromaty słodowe. Przyjemne odczucie w ustach.
3.0 Bottiglia.
2.1 little heavy and hoppy
3.2 0,5 liter bottle. Nice dunkel Weizen, one of the better ones I've had in a long time.
3.6 Bottle, served at home in a weiss glass. Amber color, huge off white head with great retention, compact lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, yeast, grains. Medium body, rough texture, very good carbonation. Sweet finish. Taste of cocoa, roasted malts, dried fruits, clove, pepper. Good.
3.4 One decent "Dark Lager" beer to drink. The aroma give you many "Bock" nose. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffe and caramel ingridients. The taste is sweet in the biginning and after become bitter. The beer is very refreshing and give you great mouthfeel. The carboration is medium to high and help a lot the beer to go down. The finish give you some bitterness with some smoked taste and remind you some "Bock" beer. Overall one great "Dark Lager" beer to drink. Nothing bad here.
4.2 500ml bottle brewed in Germany at 5.1%. Lovely clear tawny-brown with a neat, nice-sized longlasting head. Cocoa powder and caramel aroma, nicely balanced with milk chocolate vibes. Lowish carbonation, moderate consistency. This is one Dunkel that doesn't skimp on the distinguishing features of the style, while keeping that typical Kaltenberg light and fruity vibe. A little tangerine hop character along with a touch of grass and perhaps the suggestion of a bread crust malt. Nice caramel and chocolate in the finish - you almost feel like you're chewing it. One of the better Dunkels I've tasted, and doesn't seem at all perturbed by being 3 months past the Best Before. I recommend the Koenig Ludwig (Kaltenberg) brewery strongly to people looking to seriously get into German beers and who want to move beyond the most famous brewers but aren't quite ready to go micro. As usual this offering from them is a quality interpretation of a classic style with their signature twist put on it. As for people wanting to get into this sadly not-so-popular German beer style, I can only say: do not chill Dunkels to death! At least, not unless you really want to take your time and sip the beer and see how it warms. For optimum immediate drinking pleasure, however, aim for 10 degrees Celsius - the distinguishing features of the style are its darker notes, which won't come out if it's at 6C, so you almost may as well be drinking a Helles...sorry for the rant, I just rather like Dunkels. Peace out!
3.4 Adding in my 300 Beers To Try ticks because I want to see how they impact my stats and some of them I will never see again. Will however re-rate them when practical. The Holborn Whippet, tap.
3.0 Brown colored beer, with a good white head. Taste is malty, bready, some caramel. Medium/ high carbonation.
3.3 Rocky off white head left a froth on a reddish brown finely carbonated body. Malt, demerara & roasted aroma. Medium bodied, tingly on the front with a smooth creamy sticky back. Malt, syrup, brown sugar, berries & lightly spiced tastes with a peppery finish. Quaffer.
3.0 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark copper/brown colour with small off-white head, clear. Aroma of roasted malts, roasted bread, grain. Light bitter taste, medium body, average carbonation. Very average beer.
3.6 Bottle 50cl. @home poured into a footed pilsner glass. Clear deep amber brown, tall creamy beige head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma sweet malt, toasted, caramel, raisins, dates. Taste light light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, caramel, bit sugary. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, roasty and a bit sugary sweetbitter aftertaste, some cardboard, very nice Dunkel.
3.7 Not the most appealing copper colour But it's all about the taste. And KONIG LUDWIG, delivers in that department. Strong malty and sweet with a slight bitter finish. A classic and reliable dunkel.
3.6 Estilo correcto
3.3 Enjoyed: On tap (Ludwig’s Gastro Pub, Rijeka) into mug. Appearance: Black colour with red/brownish reflection, creamy small head, nice lacing. Aroma: Roasted malt, gently coffee and chocolate. Palate: Light body, gentle carbonation. Taste: Roasted malt, grains, bread, gently chocolate, gently bitter aftertaste. Overall impression: Very enjoyable and tasty, easy and drinkable.
3.2 500ml bottle, drunk at home on another misty January evening. Opaque deep garnet brown with a finely fluffy beige head, plenty of lacing and long-lasting, fast-rising carbonation. Raisins and buttered toast on the nose and more of the same in the mouth, some sweetness, medium texture, a touch of dryness but smooth into the finish. Very drinkable.
3.7 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear mahogany colour with a thick throthy beige head. Aromas of dark fruits, berries, caramel, bread, faint roasted malt and nuts. Taste is the same notes with the roasted malt and nuts more pronounced. A slightly hoppy bitterness on the palate at the finish. Light to medium bodied. High carbonation in the glass but not as noticeable on the palate. Smooth mouthfeel. The thick beige head lasts all the way down the glass. Very well conditioned beer. it’s a good dunkel.
