3.5Bottle. Crisp and sweet with notes of grass and metal. Well balanced and drinkable.
3.0Pours a bright yellow color with a medium sized, froth head.
Has a refreshing herbal hop character with some underlying straw and sweetened grain to it.
Offers a perfect nuanced, lively carbonation with a light body to it, which drinks darn easy with a nice hop crispness atop of its white bread malts defined flavors.
Strawy, malty beginning with toffee and leafy hops defining the taste, refined by the beers higher, yet soft carbonation. Finishes sweeter, while providing a nice and light late hoppiness.
Nice Kölsch, way more flavorful than its industrial brewed cousins.
3.3Bottle courtesy of Koelschtrinker, danke. Pours gold clear color, little white foam minimal retention. Nose: a bit flat but no flaws, mild malts. Mouth: medium high carbo, wheat and grains forward.
2.4Along with Yves at his home golden blonde colored body with a white head and with a spicy hop aroma a spicy herby hops sweet taste with a slight bitter finish
2.7Bottle from a Cologne kiosk. Shared sat outside in sun overlooking Rhein. Poured pale golden with an average white head. Aroma of light grain. Fairly high in sweetness and bitterness. Light body, watery texture, higher than average carbonation. Bitterness to finish.
2.8Shared with wim at my home. Clear blond colored beer with small white head and only few carbonation. Herby aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is sweet bitter.
2.90,5l Flasche. Goldgelb mit weissem Schaum. Getreide und Hopfen in der Nase. Antrunk leichte Kräuter. Würziges Kölsch.
2.8500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small to average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grassy hoppy aroma, slightly strawy and grainy background. Taste is dry hoppy, minimally strawy, a touch of green apple.
1.6Beautiful light golden beer with a little foam. Slightly fruity aroma and virtually no other odors can be found. The taste is slightly malty with a tang of citrus and a sensible hoppy aftertaste. It is the first time I taste a kölsch and I do not know quite what I had imagined, but surprised I was not.
2.9Kein besonderes Kölsch. leichte Hopfenaromatik, aber nicht komplett zufriedenstellend.
3.2Fin kölsch med smag af let sødme fra malten og en del smag af humlen. God let i det, og passer vist stilen godt.
3.5Excellent representation of the style. Spicy aroma, to style (noble hops) with mild doughy back palate. refreshing with a mildly sweet finish. Good kolsch!
2.2500ml bottle (Kaufland, Olpe)
Smells like a fairly typical sweet pale lager. Mostly the pale lager malts, some gently fruity esters. Looks like one too. Tastes mostly like one too, but does have an extra kick of esters in the retronasals. Hopping levels decent too. Does leave a tiny tingle on the tongue. Golden, tight brief head. Does very little to shake my view that Kolsch is just pale lager brewed with an inappropriate yeast, but most of that could be the accountants. Should we send in the next one, Herr Doktor Oetker?
2.150 cl Flasche. Goldgelbes Bier, feinporiger Schaum. Riecht zunächst leicht nach Brot, sobald die Schaumkrone abgebaut hat, wird das Aroma metallern. Der Geschmack ist leicht bitter, aber auch hier kommt Metall durch.
3.3’Modern’ Kölsch with very delicate, moussy head, yellowish blonde colour and delicately malty aroma, as should be expected from the style, along with grassy and flowery hops and a hint of apple. Maltier taste than usual for a Kölsch, perhaps a tad too much for the style, finishing in a soft, elegant, lightly spicy hoppy dryness.
2.3Für ein Kölsch ist das Bier ziehmlich herb, da schmecken mir andere Kölsch besser! Man kann das Zeug trinken, aber es gibt bessere, sogar das Hansa-Kölsch schmeckt besser als dieses!
2.8Bottle 500 ml at home. Poured into a kosch glass, ABV 4.8%
Golden yellow colour on a crystal clear body with lazy acticity in it. Small white head on top, a bit thin, with okay retention, leaving minimal lacing on the glass.
Aroma of malts, sweet and syrup-like.
Taste is also quite sweet, malty, some grass.
Medium thin body, good carbonation.
Not so interesting beer.
3.1Bottle from the bierkoning. Clear gold pour with thin disappearing white head. Aroma is grainy, mellow flour notes, very light grassy hop. Taste is bready, low/absent hoppiness, light metallic notes. Palate is light bodied with medium carbonation, soft palate. Easy drinking, but a bit boring.
3.150cl bottle shared with a friend.
Thick creamy white head. Clear golden pour. Nice and refreshing.
2.5Drinking from a 50 cl bottle.
A hoppy aroma.
The clear golden beer has a medium white head.
A medium bitter taste.
Medium carbonated.
3.4Draught at the Bedford-Bamberg Beer Festival 2014. Deep yellow, with modest carbonation and head. Malt aroma shines through the honey and lemon undertones. Sweet taste which fades nicely with some barley sugar notes. I’m not quite as convinced by the sweet/sour aftertaste. A competent and enjoyable traditional Kölsch.
2.60,5 l bottle with a nice looking simple label art design. Pale golden in the glass, small short living head. Low malt and marzipan on the nose. Tastes malty sweet, low herb, little bit citrus with metallic. Average easy-to-drink Kölsch.
2.6Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a pale straw coloured beer with a light citrus fruity flavour, toffee notes and a lightly grassy finish
3.350 cl. Bottle. Clear golden colour with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, hops and grassy notes
2.850cl bottle, Edeka Mohr Bonn, 02/2014. Pours a pedestrian urethra gold with fata morgana head. Grainy nose gives way to a few surprising layers of wheat fruitiness, citrus and tangerine rind hop bitterness, but also a rough edge. Shame about the extract and that Oetker’s real Kölsch flagship now is the less-tha-bluecollarly priced Braufactum Colonia.
