Kuhnhenn 9 (Nine)

Kuhnhenn 9 (Nine)

A brown, Belgian-style abbey ale. Caramel, banana, biscuit and fruity-aromas contribute to the balance of this strong, complex beer. A sweet, bready and caramel flavor follows with a silky, creamy finish.

3.5 12oz bottle @RBWG-JAX-tan ring-brown, A-roasty med/dk malt.m. T-sweet/rosty med/dk malt, 2nd hop bite. Dk Belgian Strong Ale, not a dubbel to my view.
4.0 Bottle shared by Randall. Murky brown pour with an off white head. Sour berry aromas. The taste pretty much follows suit. Great mouthfeel and body.
3.9 12 ounce thanks to BlowOffTube. Dark pour. Wow. That is different. Fruit and cherry and molasses. Big nose. Caramel. Pretty interesting.
3.5 Brown pour with foamy white head. Light chocolate, brown sugar, dried fruit, and a touch o sour. Brown sugar, caramel malt, and a sweet finish. Medium/full bodied with good carbonation.
3.5 12 oz. bottle shared at the Beer Download table at DLD. Thanks, guys! Pours a murky brown color with a small beige head. Banana, plum, caramel, bread, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, smooth, eventually coating mouthfeel. Not bad.
4.4 On tap at Torst. Pours a light brown color with an oil slick head. Aroma of dark fruit, bananas, and caramel. Lots of flavor. Caramel, alcohol, spice and some chocolate notes mixed in. Excellent dubbel. Challenges Westy 8.
3.8 Pour from a 2012 12 oz bottle. Hazy dark brown, thin tan head. Soft carbonation. Nice viscosity on this one - substantial but not too thick. Nose is malty, honey and some yeast in there too. Booze is well hidden beneath some nice malt profiles - quite good!
3.4 Pours dark brown with ruby tints. Very little head and very little in the way of carbonation on the palate. The aroma is fruity with sweet cherry and raspberry tones along with some caramel and a modest wine grape tannic finish. The only problem is that the flavor is a tad hollow. Not bad but not that great either.
4.3 Pours clear honey amber, like lighter brandy with a sandy head. Aroma and flavor punch you in the face equally with huge spicy malty flavors, sweet with impressions of barrel aging even, crazy. Obviously so big for a dubbel it wasn’t brewed in Belgium, it is so smooth it is uncanny for the boozy notes. The yeast is there to maintain the style but actually eclipsed by the big malty and spicy aspects.
3.9 2012 bottle, abv says 10.25%. Pours a very dark ruby red color with a small head that fades normally. Really nice Belgian-y aroma of dark fruit, bananas, bubblegum, raisin bread, and caramel. Taste is fairly sweet at first with lots of dark fruit, raisins, and bananas. Flavor turns to dark bread and caramel by the finish. No alcohol burn in the finish but I don’t like the fizzy carbonation that comes out. That’s about the only thing I don’t like about it though. Pretty delicious Belgian dark.
3.9 Deep brown pour, small head. Flavors of dark dried fruit, especially nice sweet dates and raisins, I get hints of bubblegum, bready notes and a sweet finish. Pretty good.
4.1 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle thanks to unclerudy. Pours a translucent dark brown with not much head. Aroma has lots of dark fruits and caramels. Lots of fig and raisins coming through. Taste has a dark sweetness with some Belgian candi sugar influence and a soft burn on the backend. Really a nice beer.
3.0 Very good its just like its define by our friends at ratebeer. Enjoy it and it kick.
3.4 12oz bottle shared at RBWG Appearance: Clear dark mahogany with a medium sized tan head and good lacing Aroma: Dark fruit and caramel Taste: Dark malts and fruit Ok, mild and sweet
3.5 12oz bottle, brown sugar, dark fruits. Sweet. Not sure this is a Dubbel. Still not horrible, but nothing to write home about.
3.3 Bottle at RBWG. Pours brown with a fine tan head. Some darkish malta in the nose, a bit of burnt earth and brown sugar. Sweet, pretty boozy, some raw sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm fi ish witn sweet, well-planned balance. So so, but too aweet.0
3.5 Murky, brown/ black color with a quickly disappearing tan/ beige head. Aroma is phenolic and somoe very slight burn notes. Flavor is phenolic/ anisee. Very similar to trois pistoles and the like. Palate is quite smooth and easy drinking. Warming, great but not exceptional.
3.9 Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Dark brown color, low head, and interesting aroma of sweet malt, banana, even ripe mellon. Taste is very different, and I would not have even thought "Belgian ale" without first knowing. Taste is moderately sweet malt with flavors of plum, banana, raising and a little spice. Finishes subtly with all these flavors. Very interesting brew, and one more reason I think this brewer is one of the most interesting brewers in the world.
3.7 Great Belgian dubbel. Aroma of clove and banana, some floral hops. Pours reddish brown with some lacing ad head. Taste bitter and sweet in good balance. Some booze in finish as well. This one really grows on me. Tap at brewpub.
3.0 Pretty generic amrican dubbel. Sweet, yeast-driven. Not complex but rather messy.
2.9 Draft. Aroma has notes of dark dried fruits, tobacco, black licorice, banana and apples. Very dark brown hue with a small off-white head that left very little lace. Flavor is very very sweet and cloying. Palate is very full bodied and oily with average carbonation. Overall a very sweet Dubbel and a little too hot.
3.8 Bottle 2011 thanks to mikem409: Poured a deep brown color with a tan colored head. Aroma is strong dark fruit with hints of chocolate and caramel. Taste is sweet caramel malt with shards of dark fruit and carbonation, soothing cream finish. The highlight of my 2012 Turkey Day!
3.0 12 oz. bottle, sent from northernbrews (thanks a lot, Jeff), pours a deep dark, dark mahogany / brown with a small beige head. Nose is full of candied sugar and Belgian yeast - smells authentic enough. Flavour reveals the same candied sugar notes, with lots of Belgian yeast, caramel and a bit of banana. Quite lively carbonation, which is noticeable right at the beginning of the first sip. Not very complex - quite simplistic, with the candied sugar dominating, though it is by no means cloying. Decent Americanized dubbel.
3.3 Pours a brown purple raisin color with beige head. Nose is a bit tart and funky, taste follows suit, with a nice tart grape/sweet raisin combo. Not something I’d seek out again, but totally worth trying.
3.4 12 ounce bottle courtesy of mikem409. Thanks! Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head that quickly fades. Aroma of toffee malts, caramel, spice and herbal notes. The taste is tart citrus, toffee, spice and herbal notes. Medium bodied.
3.1 Bottle courtesy of Drake. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a medium brown with a short off-white head. Nose has some dark fruits, bread, and banana. Light carame-toffee in the background. Flavor is malty with some dark fruits and moderate sweetness. Medium body and light carbonation. Interesting.
3.9 From a bottle purchased at the brewery. Dark brown body with an ample head of tan bubbles. Some raisins, dates, plums, caramel, and toasty bread in the aroma. Alot of the dark fruits in the flavor, along with bananas, and brown sugar. Very active in my mouth and a nice drawn out finish. Too bad I live too far away to visit this place more often.
3.0 translucent nut-brown, thin tan ring. Nose of brown sugar, chestnut, light oak. Flavor shows more sugar, bark, caramel, lightly dry through finish but more from oxidation. Thin and sticky though full body supports.
2.6 Murky brown with a beige head. Oxidized bready malts with toffee and old malt. Medium body with low carbonation. Not that good.
3.2 355mL thanks to Drake. Muddy brune with low carbonation. Tawny nose with black cherries, minerals, fennel, lettuce. Taste is minerally, bland, small lemon tea. Palate is weak and tangy.
