Kuhnhenn Aldebaran

Kuhnhenn Aldebaran

An Imperial Red IPA made with caramel rye malt and many other exotic malts. Made with very generous quantities of Summit and Newport hops, this beer is quite a balanced treat. Our brewers decided they wanted more out of an IPA so they used a Belgian yeast strain giving it a wonderful belgian like aroma.

3.3 Tap at the Copenhagen beer festival.. Copper.. Big tan head... Dry zezty fruit nose... Massive siapy lime peel... Soft pine... Massive soapy linger
3.1 Draft to taster at Kuhnhenn. Looks good for the style; a transparent amberish orange with ample foamy off-white head. Smells of strong Zbelgian yeast and spices with some hops as well. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. AlrIght, but too yeasty and bubble gummy for me.
3.4 Tap. Deep amber with small head. Pretty malty base. Mild hops. Not much Belgian influence. Slightly sweet. Sneaky.
3.9 Tasty imperial IPA, with not just a strong bitter hoppiness, but also some smooth Belgian yeast.
3.7 Draft at Logan's Alley - pours a rusty copper . A mix of earthy and faint citrus aromas . Taste is a sharp punch of bitter grapefruit with a bit of fruity esters from the yeast . Pretty good .
3.4 Bottle from a trade. Thanks! 12oz poured into a snifter at home. No head. Deep muddy reddish brown, thick pour. No lacing. Aroma of bread, Belgian yeasts, heavy malts, caramel, toffee and dark fruits. Some booze on the nose as well. The taste was odd quite frankly. It tasted like a barleywine or crossed with an old ale with some Belgian yeasts. Bready, dark fruits, slight sweetness, caramel, heavy malts. Dry finish with a booze snap at the end. I don’t get the IPA portion of this at all. Probably a one and done for this one from me.
3.6 Draft at Kuhnhenn (from notes). Pours a caramel brown color with a small beige head. The aroma is fruity with citrus and light tropical notes, floral, caramel with a light Belgian character. The flavor is much of the same. Mild bitterness. This was good fresh and on tap or soon after bottling, but be careful of older bottles.
2.6 Bottle:   Deep amber, moderate sudsy off-white head, dies quickly, little lacing.   Malty and biscuity nose, somewhat of a wet hop nose, funky, mealy, a bit sweaty.   A bit worty too in aroma.   Similar on the tongue.   Seems unfinished.   A bit syrupy.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Strong doughy finish, worty, and just messy... not a fan.
3.5 12 oz bottle. A darker amber pour with a small white head. Kind of a citrusy caramel malt aroma. Similar flavor, caramel citrus, malty toastiness. Kind of a limp palate. This bottle was too expensive though; they bottle so infrequently that the name can get me to spend a lot more on bottles than I otherwise might. It’s often worth it in the case of their meads and the rally special beers, but this just isn’t one of those.
3.5 Sampled at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013 - Day 2, Session 2. Pours clear, red-gold with a fine, white cream head. Tangy fruits in the nose, light leather. Medium sweet flavor with tangy berries and general sugary pale malts. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky-sweet finish with ripe citrus, marmalade, orange, light warmth. Good.
3.9 draught@erzbierschof - cloudy dark ruby-amber beer under a solid creamy beige foam; nice lacework; deep hoppy aroma of pine needles, peaches and prunes; full-bodied and pretty sweet, rounded and velvety, moderate carbonation, an increasing bitterness going pretty high but without aggressivity; decently dry aftertaste of marzipan, fruity and spicy hops; lingering notes of black tea
3.8 Aroma is strong. Definitely get the 9.5 abv there. And only there. Nice deep red color. Essentially no head. A ton of red apple skins in the mouthful. Followed up with caramel and hops to finish it off. Good stuff.
3.4 Taster on tap at Crunchy’s. Clear amber orange color. Thin white head. Few loose bits of lace. Orange-citrusy, hoppy aroma. Light hoppy heat in the finish. Caramel malts. Moderate sweet, moderate bitter taste. Bigger body. Crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly sticky finish. Decent imperial IPA.
3.3 Honungstoner. Lite udda och kul. Börjar tappa räkningen nu...belgisk ipa alltså? Ja det kanske man kan kalla den...
3.6 On tap at ... and Friends. Pours a hazy orange with no head. Sweet with lots of hoppy aromas of exotic fruits. Also aromas of Belgian yeast and hints of wheat malts (banana). Medium bodied. No carbonation. Hoppy finish. Could use some bittering hops.
3.5 On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. A blurry red - golden one with a small bubbly and light sidesticking beige top. Nice fresh aroma, lots of peaches and tropical fruits, some dry woody thing as well. Tastes nice, a bit wild forest like. Some pinewoods and peaches. Lots of sweetness also here. Well balanced and harmonic. So harmonic that I’m starting to feel a little bit comfortable here in this big hall along here with all these strangely loud people. 04.05.2013
3.9 Solo tasty, but lacking on the mouth feel and the amount of alcohol detected. Pours a burnt orange with a thin white head. Aroma is tons of tropical fruit and apricot. Drinks very thin but big fruity flavor from the Belgian yeast and hints of hops in the finish. A little thin on the body and the alcohol is easily detected in this one.

3.7 On tap at the brewpub. Pours reddish amber with a citrus aroma and a craggy beige head. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor that is a bit smoky with a dry finish.
3.3 12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark copper with a beige head. The aroma has paper, pine, and tree bark. Some banana also comes out in the taste. Nearly burns in the finish.
3.7 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep red with a small, whispy off white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, bubble gum, and nice tropical hops. Flavor is big, full bodied, tons of tropical flavors balanced by a mild sweetness. Fair amounts of spice and bread flavors balance out the sweetness. Pretty nice, deceptively light bodied for the heft and style of this brew.
3.1 Bottle, thanks Dave. Pours a murky brown w/ zero head. Smells of dark fruits, floral hops and pepper. Tastes of bubble gum, marshmallow, and more fruit. Overall its very disappointing, Im not sure what they were thinking with this one.

3.7 4th May 2013 CBC. Clear amber beer, little pale tan head. Light sweet marmalade hops with something that tastes like Sorachi Ace - possibly the Summit. Finishes crisp and dry. Nicely joined up.
