Kuhnhenn Jessies Road Rash Imperial Stout

Kuhnhenn Jessies Road Rash Imperial Stout

Imperial Stout, Dark like abyss, this ale sinks to the bottom of your stomach due to it’s heavy body. Packed with the intensely roasted flavor of barley, this stout has a flavor almost of coffee. This is an Exotic beer made with tapioca and rice.

4.2 Darker than dark with no head. Aroma of dark fruit, alcohol and chocolate. Great taste follows nose. Nice impy stout.
3.7 Bottle thanks to FlandersNed. Pours black. Off white head. Nose/taste of fudge brownie, coffee, vanilla, light lactose sweetness, milk chocolate and oak. Medium body.
3.8 Draft @ Kuhnhenn. Pours pitch black with a medium plus sized tan head that lasts. The aroma is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, raisins stand out among the dark fruits and a hint of licorice. The flavor is roasted malt, dark fruits, black coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a touch of alcohol. As this warmed, the alcohol came out a bit too much. Overall, this was a pretty nice imperial stout.
3.3 Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured black with a wooden brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had dark grain with a strong dark fruit note and a hint of dark chocolate and alcohol. Flavor had dark roasted grains with dark fruit, especially raisin and fig, and a bit of booze coming out in the finish.
3.7 Bottle:   The pour on this is pitch black, cannot even see through the stream of liquid.   Moderate to large frothy beige head, sticky lacing.   Did I mention pitch black?   Very rich roasted malt flavor, heavy soy, some lactose sweetness.   Whoa, quite sweet on the tongue.   Heavy lactose sweetness with an alcoholic soy background.   Has a bright twang to it.   Heavy roasted malts on the backside, after the finish.   Seems fairly clean, albeit this one is all up front with its alcoholic soy punch.   Even seems a bit chalky at the end.   Glad this is in a 12oz format, because anything bigger would be impossible to drink.   While the alcohol isn’t too overbearing, this one is just so big and sweet and roasty that it wears you down.   Okay, this is starting to be a bit too much.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly heavy.   This is a big sweet Imperial Stout.
1.7 Dec. 2007 bottle: midnight black pour with a quickly diminishing tan colored head. A mix of sherry and tart cherries dominate the aroma, with a surprisingly small amount of roasted barley wavering beneath. The body is thick and chewy, but obviously infected with a sourness that simply ruins everything else. There is a detectable amount of fun tasting chocolates and fudgey notes below, but I can get past the feeling I am drinking something that will make me sick. Shoot, looks like I waited a bit too long on this one. I am rating this only to warn others who have bottles stashed away that it is a good time to pull them out and hope for better results than I got.
3.1 12oz bottle from December 2007, thanks to ryan. Rated 3/21/10. Pours a deep inky black with a thin tan head and a bit of lacing. Smells sweet and chocolatey with a strong lactic acid undercurrent. Tastes sweet, acidic and boozy mostly, this bottle must be infected. A tiny bit of roast underneath, but it doesn’t really make it through, very sad.
3.8 12 ounce bottle thanks to pantanap, my 100th Imperial Stout rating. Pours a dark black color with a medium brown head. A sour aroma; tart cherries, roasted malts, light fruit. A odd, almost bizarre flavor; tartness is overpowering initially, sour cherries and wood, rich roasted malts, cocoa and coffee, salty, a odd brew. Nice though, a interesting brew. I assume the sourness is intentional?
3.7 Bottle. Pitch black. Small brown head. Oaky, sherrylike sweetish roasted malt dominate aroma. Sweet and sour flavor, very intense, with notes of grapes and alcohol sweetneess. Mild carbonation, full bodied, dryish mouthfeel. A bit too intensely sweet and sour for my taste. Otherwise a very interesting brew.
3.9 Bottled thanks Joey@CigarCity. Very deep brown, close to opaque black dark colour, brown mediumsized head. Aroma is liquorice, alcohol, chocolate oak and ashes with some roast. Also some dark fruits and plummy sweetness. Flavour is very much the same with a quite oily, but still carbonated palate. A bit too sweet for my taste.
3.9 Draft at brewpub. Pous a black opaque color with a small tan head. Nose is rich chocolate and roasted malts. Palate is full and fluffy. Flavors of chocolate, coffe, dark roasted malts and a nice sweetness.
3.2 Way too much dark fruit for me. Some raisin and maybe even cherry notes. Drier finish than expected. Not quite enough complexity, some chocolate notes and a bit of coffee but you really have to search for it.
3.5 draft at brew kettle - Totally opaque black color with almost non-existant tan head. Aroma is very roasty, with notes of coffee, ash, fair presence of anise, bit yeasty. Flavor is also pretty roasty, but with a fairly solid malty background, bit salty, with ash and a touch of dark chocolate. Finish is actually a bit thin with a mildlyh bitter finish. A good brew, but really doesn’t stand out from the sea of imperial stouts out there.
4.3 12oz bottle thanks to Sliffy. Pours very dark brown with tan ring. Aroma is powerful with roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and molassas. Flavor is loaded with coffee, chocolate, roasted malt with some vanilla and dark fruits. Finishes with a tartness of sour cherries. Smooth on palate with very good mouthfeel. This is a very good imperial stout and one the more complex brews I have had in a while. This is what I hope Bells BB Cherry Stout was going to be. Cheers to Kuhnhenn for an awesome beer and taking chances.
3.7 Growler shared by hophead22 from dmschefke.. Pours jet black with a brown head.. Has this salty chocolate smell goin on... I guess this is what Chef’s Chocolate Salty Balls smell like..Taste is alot of coffee and chocolate with a dry kinda bitter finish.. Good but not my favorite RIS
4.0 Bottle shared by Hophead22. Pours black with an orangeish brown head. Aroma is salty chocolate with some roast and a hint of smoke. Flavor is coffee and chocolate. A little bit sour and plenty bitter. Finishes dry. Palate is thick and creamy, just the way I like it. Nice smooth carbonation. Another very tasty imperial stout.
3.8 Growler from dmschefke, big thanks Dave. Shared with DuffManSW and mspindler. Big and black with a nice chocolate head. Lots of chocolate in the nose. Big coffee flavor, more than I thought after smelling it. Pretty good.
4.3 Growler via trade. A very interesting and complex imp stout. Up front coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and etoh with subtle sweetness, caramel, charcoal, and smoke in the finish. Please put this brew in a bourbon barrel. Very well done.
3.9 On tap at Kuhnhenn. Pours a pitch black with small white head. Aroma of heavy roast malt, coffee, and raisins. Taste is very pleasant, but not unexpected from the aroma with a slight sweetness added. Alcohol content is very well hidden. Mouthfeel is creamy with a nice aftertaste of mild coffee. A very solid impy stout.
3.6 On tap at Kuhnhenn. Deep dark opaque pour. Strange pea green colored head. Boozy with roasted malt aroma. Booze sticks to the tip of your tongue. Slight anise & chili pepper> mexican chocolate cake.
3.9 Growler from brewery, pours black with a rich brown head. Aroma is mostly roast, coffee, and molases. I made the 2 hour drive out there to get a few bottles of KRE (they were sold out but sweet on draft) I ended up landing a growler of this and a good buzz. Flavor is coffee and roasted malt. 12.5% is non-existant, amazing and dangerous. The only fault is that its a little thin bodied but that’s what makes this brew dangerous. It’s about as thick as an 8.5% but packs 12+. Good Stuff.
3.8 On draft at the brewery. Dark brown with small tan ring of a head. Aroma of coffee, molasses, roasted malt, and bitter chocolate. Tastes like espresso, with rich and creamy mouthfeel. Nothing amazing, but a solid stout.
4.0 I have been sitting on this one for a while so a need to thank goryshkewych for this one. A 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter produced a two finger coco colored head that trailed of to a thick lace on top of a black bodied brew. Aromas of Molasses come right to the front some dark fruit and roasted grains. The flavors are Interesting for a Imperial Stout. Licorice and molasses (sweetness) are up front then followed by some light bitter roastiness. At almost 13% I can’t taste any alcohol at all that is incredible. This brew is nice and thick in the mouth making this a great sipper. Now this is interesting to me it is very drinkable but the ABV on this is far from sessionable it is an interesting Imperial Stout but to me on the edge of the style guidelines for sure. I am sad to see Kuhnhenn jump there prices so much, because this will probably be one of the last I seek out. It was a great stout I can’t take that away from them
3.1 Black body with dark brown head. The aroma has molasses, lots of roast and booze. Rich roasty palate, starchy with a bit of tartness late. Lots of booziness to it. Powerful stuff. A real bruiser, and it takes over the beer. Thanks, SoLan.
3.8 Thank you SoLan!! Pitch black with brown head. Rich chocolate cake, mocha aromas and a slight bit of icing sugar. Goes down nicely. Has a tang on the back of the tongue in the finish which is interesting. Also carob and chicory. A lingering roast finish but the tang makes it different and mixes well with the malts. The tapioca accentuates the creaminess in the mouthfeel. Nice.
3.5 On tap at the Brew Kettle. Pours black with tan head. Has roasted malt aroma with some light fruit. Cherry perhaps. Medium mouthfeel leads to dark roast, fruit, and diatectyl flavors set in. Overall a nice brew. Just wish is wasn’t so buttery.
3.8 Bottle@Home. Strong aroma of coffee and all kinds of fruit like red and berries and raspberry. Black colour, brown firm head, good lace. pours very thick. Sweet, sourish, bitter, very fruity, loads of coffee. Full and flat. Flavourful.
4.0 A- Pours almost pitch black with a thick, chunky dark brown head which sits magnificently atop this menacing brew. S- Lots of grain, slightly faint for the style, a little bit of milk chocolate. T- Very Rich, sweet chocolate, dark fruits, coffee, lots of roasted malt at the end. M- Very thick with perfect carbonation in my mind (some may say it is a little overcarbonated) D- This is definitely one to sip on. On this cold winter night it is just about perfect. Too rich to have all the time but im enjoying it right now.
3.2 Bottled. Poured inky black with a thick, dark cap of brown head. The aroma picked up darker chocolates, charred black malts, and what became an almost overpowering metallic sourness as it warmed up.. seemed like it was infected. The flavor confirmed my fears, as sourness was the dominant characteristic.. sweeter chocolates with a rice-like texture joined some mildly bitter coffee at the core.. sharp sourness covered the sides of the mouth and stuck on the finish with some bitterness. Thick, sour, and bitter on the palate with some cocoa powder lightening it up.. the heft felt good, but the rest of it wasn’t too pleasant.
