Kuhnhenn Simcoe Silly Ale

Kuhnhenn Simcoe Silly Ale

This Pale American Belgo style beer was 2010 GABF’s silver medal winner. It has notes of spicy pineapple, mango bubblegum aromas which comes from the unique marriage of a special Bel-gian yeast and an American Simcoe hop. This beer has an initial soft malt sweetness with orange fruitiness and finishes with a hoppy dryness.

3.1 Taster, on tap at the third session, Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Hazy orange body colour. Apricot and peach on the nose. Mid-sweet taste of peach, apricot and yeasty fruitiness. Fruit bitter tail. Medium bodied. Likable without further excitements. (03.05.2014).
3.9 Tao pour. Cleanish, orange in mug. Floral, orange sherbet nose. Taste pulls through the hops, layers in bubblegum. Enjoyed.
3.1 Sampled @ CBC 2014. Hazy orange color, full sized creamy off-white head that lasts for a long time and leaves good lacing. Malts, slightly hops, herbs or spices, slightly bitter, herbal bitterness. Decent body and carbonation.

3.5 Tap @CBC2014 Hayz orange color, steady white head. Citrus, fruityness, kind of Saison yeast in the nose. Medium-bodied. Sweetish fruityness, apricot and mango. Saisony flavor too! Yeast overrides Simcoe but nice beer.
3.8 Draught (9%) @ CBC’14 Aroma is somewhat heavy with apricot, some fruity belgian yeast and distant leathery tones. Flavour has belgian yeast, apricot and fruits. Also some watemelon. Fruity, somewhat funky but still refreshing.

3.5 Draft to taster at Kuhnhenn. Looks good; a transparent golden orange with foamy white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast and fruity hops with a bit of spice. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.
3.4 Tap @ Henriks. Clear deep golden with a small but dense lightly tanned head. Aroma is peachy, faint citrus and yeast. Taste is intense peachy-fruity esters. Faint alcohol notes and a very well bitter to sweet balance. Body is close to full, co2 is close to high.
3.0 On tap @ Henrik, Bergen. Hazy light orange body, small white head. Nose is banana, almond essence, sweet sugary tones and hints of alcohol and caramel. Taste is banana, coconut, caramel and hints of alcohol and biscuity malts. Full body, medium carbonation. Strange sweet stuff; not bad but where is the Simcoe? All I get is massive Belgian banana-dominated ester tones and tons of sweetness.
3.7 Solid belgium with pine and orange flavor. Easy to drink, orange color, little head. Would drink again.
3.5 Hazy copper pour with a thin soapy white head .... Aroma of Belgian yeast, fruity, oranges and Bubblegum .... Taste of fruity Belgian yeast, oranges, floral hops, bubblegum and a dry bitter hop ... Dry and bitter finish with a lingering fruity yeast flavor ... Has a slight hint of abv in the aroma. ... Overall a solid Belgian strong bordering on a Belgian pale ale
4.1 Tap. Dark amber. Lingering, thin layer of head. Lacing. Piney nose. Honey sweetness balances with piney hops. Like Hopslam!
3.4 Interesting and hard to distinguish a style. Pale ale or Belgian? The aroma was hoppy with some Belgian yeast character. Fruit esters as well. Deep copper color with a thin head. Average weight with strong carbonation. Citrus hops bitterness followed by average malt base. The Belgian yeast threw me for a curve with some interesting after flavors. Good and different.
3.9 Growler - pours a deep rusty orange . Big yeast aromas , tropical fruit , banana , mild spice . Taste is bubblegum with some mango . Very good Belgo .
3.3 Notes from GABF 2013. Pretty agressive head, nose of pine, orange, some grapefruit. Belgian yeast muddles everything up though for the hops. Didn’t work for me.
3.1 Pours a cloudy gold color with a big white head. Aroma is piney hops with a big gassy hay-like sugar sweetness coming out underneath. On the palate, the beer is sweet, but finishes with a biting astringency. Hops are strong on the open, but come and go immediately. Not impressed.
3.6 draught@Erzbierschof - hazy dark blond-orange beer with a persistent white foam; nice lacework; chewy fruity aroma, estery, perfumy and with notes of honey; very sweet malt backbone; full-bodied; decent bitterness, resdiual sweetness and a long fruity and perfumy finish

Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, lots of nice orange, orange peel, hints of lemon, grapefruit in there, going into some earthy spice, finishing bitter, slightly dry.
3.8 Poured dark amber with fluffy two finger head. Nose was sweet, with a hint of citrus Clean taste, refreshing, nice balance of hops and lightly resinous
3.9 A: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Most Light, White Head, Some Lacing S: Belgian Yeast, Blend of Tropical Fruits, Mild Belgian Sugar T: Belgian Sugar, Mango, Peach, Mint M: Decent Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Semi Sweet Overall, I was a little caught off guard because I got very little hops that were eventually overwhelmed by sweet flavors.
3.4 On tap at GABF 2013, some pine aroma and taste, the Belgian yeast takes over and masks the simcoe.
