La Bière du Boucanier Dark Ale

La Bière du Boucanier Dark Ale

energetic and full-bodied taste with sweetish pronounced tone, brown copper color and with a creamy foam of beige tonality, bouquet harmonious and elegant. Category "Belgian Strong Dark Ale", style "brown ale", this beer is produced with the method of the triple fermentation, means that it has three doses of malt more than the quantity used for other beers, added in three different phases of workmanship, like the last phase where the malt is directly put in the bottle or the keg.

3.2 A nice cloudy amber colour. Fairly sweet and spicy but with a lingering malty, bitter aftertaste. Got this in a sampler pack and expected it would be my favourite of the bunch, but I was a bit disappointed. Not as flavourful as the red and blonde.
3.5 Bottle in a gift box from the LCBO. Pours a hazy brown, creamy head, lots of lacing. Nose is spicy with sweet malt. Tastes sweet, malty, a touch bitter, caramel is the dominant flavour. I liked this one.
2.6 bottle. Poured muddy red-brown with a frothy mocha head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, yeasty. Medium body, effervescent carbonated mouthfeel. Sweet boozy flavour, caramel malt, peppery with sightly sour notes.
2.9 Newish dark version of Boucanier, a hazy dark bronze ale with very estery nose, chocolatey, caramelly, some DMS (cooked cabbage), bread, peach, orange, dates, raisins, pear; malt sweet taste, strong estery yeastiness, sourish note, slick and full body, candi sweet finish with brandyish alcohol and floral hoppiness. Not very refined for a ’massieve ale’, I prefer their Gulden Draak way above this.
3.6 bottle at Känguruh Pub in Vienna. brown, redish clear color. off white head. smells of dried fruits, honey, cherry & plums. full bodied, light fizziness, tastes of sour cherry, well balanced sweet & bitterness, alcohol apparent
3.8 Part of a 6 pack at the LCBO. Pours a murky brown colour with a really effervescent white head. Esters and toffee like aroma with a hint of dark berries and bready. Sweet palate, has a boozy alcohol burn and tons of stewed fruit. Very nice beer.
3.5 Bottle 33cl. Brussel. Aroma is malts and dark fruit. The taste was fruity with some caramel sweetness. Very drinkable.
Corpo medio, struttura parzialmente liquorosa, effervescenza vivace.
2.7 Bruin bier met schuim. Smaak is licht zuur en bitter, caramel, chokolade en citroen. Goed bier, blijft niet lang hangen.
3.9 Bottle 33 CL. Pours brown with some red and a persistent creamy fan head. Aroma is fruity perhaps notes of banana. Taste is sweet caramel. Medium body, medium to high carbonation. High drinkability though high ABV.
3.2 Malty and creamy strong Belgian dark beer. Has some spices of course and is quite yeasty.
3.4 330ml bottle into a goblet. Pours a hazy dark brown with a half finger off-white head. Very poor head retention and little to no lacing. Not too impressive for a Belgian. Aroma is on the fruity side with a lot in the way of cherries and plums with some caramel and molasses. There is somewhat of a metallic note that is a bit off-putting but it remains restrained. Some spicy yeast is underneath. The flavor closely follows the aroma with dark fruit and cherries but the molasses is quite a bit more prominent. A touch of clove and banana from the yeast but the flavors are somewhat muted. Sticky, sweet mouthfeel lingering long after the finish. Overall, this seems like a less refined version of a Belgian Strong Ale. Too many off-notes and muddled flavors. I also feel like there is too much residual sugar. I probably won’t come back to this one.
3.4 This brew is a clear dark reddish-mahogany color with a medium tan head that dissipates gradually. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, yeast and fruit. Medium to full body and slightly syrupy with flavors of dark malts, earthy yeast, caramel malt and raisin. The finish is fruity with a yeast and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.4 Clear brown colour. Plums, caramel aroma and taste. A decent belgian, but not too exciting.
3.4 pours clear brown, not that dark no real foam no real smell good carbo bitter, sugary taste . bit medicinal in the back not that good
3.3 Hellbraun, verflüchtigender weisser schaum, malzaroma, alkoholaromatisch, süsslich, malzig, leicht caramel, im nachklang fein alkohlig, nicht anhängende bittere, feinperlende rezenz
3.3 A bit boring for a Belgian Dark Strong ale. Pours a dark burnt amber with a thick foamy beige head atop. The nose is well malted with tons of nutty and toffee notes as well as a few dried fruit aromas. Sweet malty flavour with notes of raisin and prune, light spices and a generally bland malt flavour. Overall an average brew.
3.7 On tap at Mekong on 02/02/2011.com Slightly hazy dark amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet fruit, caramel, and light molasses aroma. Sweet raisin, fruit, caramel, molasses and sugar flavor. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.
2.8 Bottle. Color unclear dark red with large white head. Aroma malt, roasted, caramel, sugar. Taste sweet, fruits, peach, pear.
3.2 12oz bottle. Pours a murky dark brown color with a foamy tan head. Aroma of malt, grain, dark fruit, brown sugar, and spices. Taste is much the same with a mild amount of spicy bitterness.
3.9 0.33 l bottle, from Auchan. Dark burgundy liquid, with a short creamy beige head. Aroma has notes of roses, sour cherries, brown sugar, peach, noble yeast. Full body, bittersweet taste, thin and creamy texture, with a lively carbonation and an astringent finish.
3.5 Not so cloudy red beer, quickly dissipating head. Yeasty red fruit and malty and a little bit of caramel aroma. Roasty darkish flavour, burned malts and sugar also some fruitiness. Good beer
3.3 Flaska Systembolaget. Brun vätska. Doft av kryddor, kavring och jäst. Liknande i smak. Äpple, jäst, grovt bröd och örter. Spritsig munkänsla
3.4 Bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond. Cool design, like Gulden Draak raided by pirates. Reddish brown pour with nice silky foam and lacing. Strong malty aroma, perhaps a bit too much raisin and brown sugar and not enough yeasty ripeness (as I tend to prefer in this style). Flavors are better, less sweet and more integrated. Not a top notch BSA but pretty good.
