La Binchoise Brune Tradition / Cistercienne Bruna

La Binchoise Brune Tradition / Cistercienne Bruna

Also known as La Binchoise Brune with a 7.7% abv.

This beer looks like it means business right from the start. It is dark red brown with a good fluffy head and has a rich spicy malt nose with a few bitter orange notes. The palate has a big hoppy bite and a rich, fruity, dark coffee character, which tries to become roasted in the finish.

2.6 Bottle from Hopt. As "La Binchoise Brune" @ 7.5% abv. Dark malty aroma with caramel, dried fruits, raisins, vegetables, yeast, brown sugar, toffee, bit candied, with mild spicy notes including a touch of nutmeg. Flavour is sweet and lightly bitter. Body is medium. Not a very satisfactory Dubbel.
3.4 Bottle. Reddish-Brown in colour. Sweet Malty (caramel, toffee, candy sugar, hints of chocolate). Fruity & Spicy (dark fruits, raisins, oranges, cinnamon). Yeasty (floaties and quite a lot of sediment). Sweet malty with slightly bitter hoppy edge. (2008)
3.6 Pours rather clear amberbrown, small white head. Smell is weak. Bit sweet, some port. taste is sweet, yet complex. Some candy, some port. Aromatic malts and hops, as well as a very perfumy milkchocolate-thing going on. Not bad at all !
3.1 0,33l Flasche mit 7,7%. Kastanienfarbenes Bier mit beigem flüchtigem Schaum. Sanft fruchtige Vanillenote. Antrunk ist überraschen röstig, fast etwas rauchig. Malz und Asche. Wenig Frucht. Sperriger Geschmack.
3.0 Butelka, warka do nienabili ;) i piwo troche inne niz tu - obrazek sie zgadza, w nazwie nie wystepuje tradition, i ma 7.7 ABV.. Brazowaw-ciemnobursztynowe piwo, z prawie biala, niebrzydka piana. Aromaty dosc proste i dosc slodkie - zbozowe, tostowe, ciemnoowocowe, karmelowe, ciut przyprawowe i kasztanowe. Suma ciut ciut mdla. w ustach slodkawe, srendio ciala, niewiele wysycenia, b malo goryczki, alko super ukryte, ale znow takie ciutmdle wrazenie. 3.6 Surprisingly rich aroma for a French brune, with raisin and fig like sweetness as well as a more malty (and even roasted) tone. Belgian dubbel like, but not as dry and with a cleanliness that?s odd for such a fruity beer. Even some bubblegum notes. Nice warming taste, not too little alcohol -- this should have some heat to balance the spiced malts. And a good hoppy, albeit classic bite to it too. Very foamy carbonation which I enjoy a lot, countering the alcohol and toast. Only the ending is a bit abrupt and simpler, but I guess it only sets you up for another sip. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
3.2 Bottle 33cl / Botella 33cl. @ Cerveceria Internacional, Sevilla, España. A: Brown / Marron. T/S: Malt, caramel, sweet / Malta, caramelo, dulce.
3.6 F: average, white, poor retention. C: very hazy, non-transparent, yellowish to brownish. A: malt, spicy, estery, fruity, hint of yeast. T: malty, some chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, molasses, yeasty, candy, medium body, good carbonated, very tasty for Abbey Dubbel, 0,33l bottle, Match supermarket Brussels.
3.4 Good brown beer. Sweet, but with subtle bitterness. Well balanced and easy drinkable.
1.5 28/XII/14 - 33cl bottle from Amon Tchiniss (Malmédy) @ holiday - BB: n/a (no marking on the side of the label to indicate a date on the preprinted months and years) (2014-1548) Clear red brown beer, creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: smelly, unpleasant, rotting fruits, bit sugary, overripe banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bad, some caramel, bit malty, overripe banana, dirty, rotten fruit. Aftertaste: bit of chocolate, sourish, dirty, very unpleasant, some cocoa powder, little bitter, alcohol, nope, nope, this is not cutting it...
3.7 Bottle from wife for christmas. Very dark brown beer with medium head. Aroma of caramel and dark malts. Taste is dark bread, caramel and dark malts with a touch of spice and yeast. Bit of a gusher on opening. Good.
3.5 On tap @ Malterie des Remparts. Brown colour with thin off-white head. Sweet and flavour of caramel, notes of tobacco. Medium sweet
3.1 Dark brown with rich off-white creamy head. Strong caramel, but too watery taste, remainng caramel bitterness, some sweetness around.
4.1 Bottle @ home. Poco corposa, poco carbonata, molto rotonda, calda. Equilibrata ed armonica.
3.1 Scotch-style Belgian rather than a dubbel, with creamy, regular, beige, stable head and very dark brown colour with wine-red hue, hazy. Sweet fruitiness, banana, candied cherries, apple sauce, chocolate, brown bread, buttermilk, candi sugar, liquorice, cloves all suffering under an unpleasant DMS odour of cooked cauliflower. Malty, bready taste, candied fruits, sweetish, light coffee-like roasted bitterness in the end, a bit sticky and a bit alcoholic.
3.1 Copper/brown pour with a thin off-white head. Aromas of dark fruits and notes of brown sugar. Flavor is a bit thin. Not quite as robust as I was anticipating. Still a decent brew bur as good as I was hoping
2.6 Nose is pronounced yeast, copper, slight dark fruit. Taste is yeast, red berry, malt, bread, iron, maybe a little spice in the finish. The mouthfeel was terribly thin. I was really very disappointed in this.
3.4 Shared a 33cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a very dark brown in colour with a tan thick head. Aroma is caramel, raisins and malt. Average carbonation and medium to full creamy body. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Overall, a good beer for a winter afternoon.
3.4 Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a hazy dark brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma is raisin yeast and malt. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a nice smooth hop yeast fruit palate and a short bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
3.6 Bottle shared. Pours hazy brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt, raisins, overripe fruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Cherries and tobacco in the palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.3 75cl bottle cortesy of and shared with Kermis. Thin tan head. Clear brown pour. A decent dubbel
2.9 Really dark red-brown coloured beer with a fast fading light tan head. Noses of wet autumn leaves, barnyard, spices maybe some soy notes. Light-medium fizzyness with a watery very light slick texture. The taste is bitter and light acidic. The body is medium and the finish lasts with a slick dryness on the palate medium term.
2.5 brown, hazy, minimal head, roasty, grass, citrus, ginger, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, bitter,
3.2 brown, cloudy, tan foam, caramel, roasty, toast, licorice, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, medium sweetness, medium bitterness,
3.9 Really like this one. Brown creamy head and a very creamy body to match. Lots of plum and bread notes. Lively tight carbonation. Definite winner.
2.9 As La Binchoise Brune (7.7%): Unclear copper brown with quite thick and lasting beige foam Quite a fresh smell with hops, a hint of sugar, iron and some almost hidden spices; disappointingly weak nose though pleasant The taste is quite soft for a 7.7% beer, mirroring the main elements of the smell: hops though never too bitter, some spices, little sweetness, a very slight bit of iron and alcohol though again, for a beer of this strength it’s very well hidden... Overall it’s more refreshing rather than anything else, even if the aftertaste is quite full and there is the lingering feeling of a stronger beer and some alcoholic warmth in the end. In itself, a pleasant beer but it simply can’t hold its own among the dozens of Dubbels between 6 and 8%.
